The wind was gentle against her skin, the curtains beat wildly against the window as the cold air rushed into the room.
“Stop that!”Laura giggled and playfully swatted his hands away from her cheeks.
“Make me.”Riam teased, threw her arms above her head and dipped lower till he back was on the bed.”I’d really love to see you try.”He smirked.
Laura tried and failed woefully. Rian laughed and planted a kiss on her cheek.”You look so cute when you’re mad, you know that?”He cooed and placed another kiss on her cheek.
He tucked back a strand of her hair and her eyes fluttered closed as she leaned into his touch.
“You’re so beautiful, Laura.”He whispered against her skin.
She chuckled, “you’ve said that atleast ten times just this morning.”She teased, her brows scrunched up as an unpleasant thought crossed her mind, “sure you’re okay?”She asked suddenly worried.
“Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?”He grinned.”Wait, is it because I stated the obvious?”He wondered out loud.
Laura shoved her hair over her face as her cheeks got hotter, “it’s not even like that.”
“Sure it isn’t.”He smirked. He lifted himself off her, careful not to hurt her, “sorry, I need to use the restroom quickly.”He planted a swift kiss on her cheeks before heading to the bathroom.
Laura leaned against the headboard just as the bathroom door slammed shut behind him. Just as the breeze was about to be successfully in luring her into a deep sleep, the sound of a phone blaring pulled her out.
Her head snapped in the direction of the sound, the ringtone was familiar but wasn’t hers. The bright light from Rian’s phone is even brighter against the dark sheets. She silenced the call and leaned back against the headboard.
She’d been getting the hang of it against when the ringtone blared loud in the silence of the room. She silenced it again and returned back to her position. Her head had barely touched the headboard when the annoying sound came from his phone again.
She groaned annoyed and grabbed the device from the bed, her brows furrowed at the name of the caller. Tricia. She picked up the call but doesn’t say a word.
“Rian?”The voice called from the other end of the line.
Laura held her tongue and waited for the caller to introduce themselves.
“Rian are you there? I need your help, it’s kind of urgent.”She continued despite the lack of a response. Laura felt the need to speak, to ask who she was to Rian to all of a sudden need his help out of the blue, someone she didn’t know, but she wasn’t going to jump into conclusions.
“Rian it’s Tricia, I don’t know if the network is breaking or something, but call me back, I really need to see you Rian. It’s been almost a week.”She pleaded and waited one second, then two and the line dropped.
She placed the phone back the way she’d seen it before picking it up and returned to her position by the headboard. Just as her head hit the board, the bathroom door opened and Rian stepped out all smiles.
“Hey baby.”He cooed and dipped onto the bed beside her. Laura shifted away before he could even get close.
Rian frowned, “what’s wrong?”
“Who’s Tricia?”She blurted, never one to beat around the bush with anything.
“Tricia? I don’t k-”
“Rian don’t even think about lying to me or indirectly calling me stupid by denying you know her.”She snapped.”Who is Tricia and why was she calling your phone saying she needed to see you?”
“Oh Tricia!”He snapped his fingers like he’d only just realized he did know her. Sure, keep acting ignorant.
“Yes Tricia, I’m glad you finally went down memory lane, now who is she?”She demanded.
“She’s just an old friend, I have no idea why she’s calling me because we haven’t spoken in ages.”He tried to shrug it off but Laura could see the tension in his shoulders like she could seen a thick black thread on white sheets.
“Do I look stupid to you?”
“What do you mean? Of course not. Why would you even think that?”
“I mean I have to have stupid written on my forehead if you expect me to believe that bullshit!”She flared. She’d given him enough chances to atleast be a decent human and come clean, but if he was going to lie to her face then he was going to take whatever he got.
“Baby you’re taking this way too seriously. It’s not even like that, Tricia is just an old friend, we shouldn’t be fighting about this. It just a simple issue we can talk about instead of overreacting.”He dug himself deeper.
“Over react- Overreacting? Did you just say I’m over reacting?!”She forced the words out, her body vibrated with anger, “get out!”She yelled losing her patience.
“Really Laura? You don’t mean that.”He fired.
“I do. Get out before I throw you out myself.”She yelled, the veins in her neck threatened to pop out.
Rian watched her like she was a crazy witch who had lost her freaking mind.
Immediately he was out of the door, she grabbed her phone and dialed her pa.
“Laura?”
“Hey dad, I need a favour, could you help me watch the twins?”
“Oh?”He sounded unsure.”Are you okay? What’s wrong?”
“I would be dad, don’t worry. I just need to clear my head.”
“Oh okay, sure then.”He agreed and ended the call.
She paced the room as she waited for him. The sound of a car honk alerted her to his arrival and she picked up the twins and headed outside.
She settled them neatly in the baby seat at the back seat.
“Thank you.”She whispered.
Her pa nodded, “just make sure to take care of yourself okay?”He said and drove off.
She let out a breath and threw on a body hug black dress and some pumps. The cool evening air slapped her face immediately she stepped out. The wind blew her hair furiously as she drove to the pub.
The sound of loud music invaded her ears as she rolled the car to a stop by the pub. She shut it off and just as she was making her way inside and to the bar, she bumped into a hard chest. She looked up to see a familiar face. Christian.
“Why, hey there!”Christian smirked.”Care for a drink?”He offered.
Too out of it to think she nodded and agreed. Barely fifteen minutes later, she was hiccuping and laughing to basically anything he said.
“I should head home.”She hiccuped every syllable.
“You can’t drive like this, I could drop you if you don’t mind.”He offered.
She nodded and he led her to his car and drove her home.
The familiar pouch came into view and she relaxed. Christian helped her out and to her front door. She stumbled on air and fell into his arms on the stairs. Christian reached out just in time and caught her. She looked at him shocked, her heart raced, she’d seen her life flash before her eyes.
“You really should be more careful.”He whispered, his eyes never left hers.
“I don’t need to when I have you around.”She smirked, her eyes dropped to his lips as she held her breath in anticipation.
His head dipped and her eyes fluttered close as she closed the distance.
