Heavy palpitations and anxiety, those were the two perfect things to explain the state of her mind at that moment. She was confused for a minute wondering if it was right that she walked in with the box.
At long last she did, she looked old again and could see a black car driving away, raising more suspicion and making her more skeptical.
One name came to her mind immediately when she saw the content of the box-Christian.
It was a gift for the boys, To confirm what suspicion she tried calling Riley, the only other person that had been outside her home as well.
“Hello.”She muttered Immediately she picked it up.
“Did you notice anything unusual When you walked out of my apartment? “she asked.
“What do you mean?”She sounded a bit ignorant about what Laura was trying to say.
“I got a package and I am just wondering if you saw anything that could raise suspicion.”
“Oh, I remember seeing a black car.”
Her brow furrowed, as she spoke about the car to think it fitted the exact description of what she had seen earlier.
She leaned forward on the couch, a low growl forming in her throat.
“What does he want?”
Since there was only one way for her to find out, she picked up her phone and dialed the only person with an answer to all of this mystery, she called Christian.
****
He was out on his porch when his phone rings, he picks up the phone and doesn’t seem exactly pleased, to say the least.
“Why are you calling?”His voice was filled with animosity.
“What’s your problem?”she finally snaps at him.
“What?”He was surprised.
“Why do you keep acting like a coward, you drop a package then run off… Why?”
“I don’t understand what you are trying to say, a package?”
She rolled her eyes. It felt like the wrong time to drag words with him, if he wanted to lie she would as well help him.
Her hand reached out, lightning fast, and picked up the note from the table still marked anonymous, it occurred to her that the First gift has been without any letter.
Momentarily she was stunned as she scrambles out of the front door, almost falling on her face.
“Are you still there?”
“Yeah, sorry for disturbing me, I got a package and I thought it was from you.”
“Get your facts right.”
His anger at that moment was a powerful emotion, and when she had called it ignited what he thought was already subdued in his conscious mind .
Slowly he could feel as it turns into a
putrid rage, aware that he would be seeing Antonia just in a few seconds he is quick to get rid of the rage that was building up in his soul.
Before he could get the door, the doors to a apartment swing open, and a tall, Tonia walks through them and hugged him
He gives her a gentle smile, and her nerves dissipate-
“How was your day, you drove down here alone?”She looked behind sensing that he hadn’t been there with his chauffeur.
“Just figure that we should spend More time together, you know.”
Her smile grows wider, her eyes crinkling at the corners.
“I have good news.”she says.
“Really, what is it?”
“Why not come in.”
“You know how Curious I am, why not just tell me what it is about.”
She forces a smile and ignores her heart rapidly beating in her chest, she wanted so badly to tell him but she didn’t want to get her hopes up yet, not when she was still having that bit of uncertainty about the results yet.
“I was actually hoping to tell you about this after the results, I want it to be a pleasant surprise.”
He looked up from where he was seated, raising an eyebrow in disbelief.
“That reminds me you were at the hospital today. Can I know why?”
“Oh that’s part of the surprise… Really, why not give me a bit more time? He promised that he’d call by evening.”
The silence is too long between them. It becomes a staring match, but he refuses to back down.
“You are saying that if I should wait it would be a more pleasant surprise?”He asks again.
“Yeah-“she was about to elaborate more on my decision when her phone buzzed.
“It is the doctor.”She mutters with a low voice.
“Hello?”
“I’m Doctor Charleston. I hear you came here today for a test?”
“Yeah, I didn’t … are the results out?”
“Yeah, I’m so sorry about calling by this time to start with.”He mutters.
“It’s fine,”she says, giving a rather curious Christian a genuine smile.
“Can we see tomorrow?”The doctor asked.
“Is there any problem?”
“Nothing really, it is just about tests.”
She arched her brow.”It is fine, I will be there.”
“It’s a pleasure speaking to you, I’m looking forward to meeting you tomorrow.”
She dropped the the call and as Christian
eyes flick to her face he could see her smile fades.
With anxiety dawning on his face. He asked.”Is everything fine?”
“I thought it was, now I can’t tell what it is.”
“Maybe he wasn’t clear.”
She sighed deeply.”Guess I will find out tomorrow.”
The silence is uncomfortably long. She tries to find the right words as she stands awkwardly, fighting to keep the horror from her voice.
What could be wrong?
