THE CEO ALPHA KING
Chapter 19: He hates females
Writer’s POV
Isaac returned quickly with the keys and got in the car, with Serena following him just as Elena’s car drove out the first gate.
He started the car, following her out of the estate until they reached a fancy restaurant. Serena got down and went to meet Elena, who was already standing at the entrance of the building.
“I can see that your brother is overprotective of you,” Elena said, shooing a guard who had come to stand beside her, an umbrella in his hand to shield her from the blazing sun.
“Yes, I’m sorry about his behavior. He just doesn’t want anything bad to happen to me.” Serena apologized, glancing anxiously at Isaac, who was standing not very far off, watching them with curious eyes.
“Let’s go in,” Elena ordered, taking the first step into the restaurant. Serena turned to Isaac and shrugged her shoulders. He rolled his eyes and followed her in.
They took a seat close to the window; a few people glanced curiously at them but said nothing. She could already see a waitress approaching.
Serena looked around the restaurant nervously, only calming down when she saw Isaac in a corner.
As the waitress drew closer, Serena couldn’t help but feel extra conscious as she played with her nails. Unconsciously, she registered in her mind that Elena was the second person to take her out.
Elena reached for the menu just as the waitress got to them, a huge smile tugging at her lips, but Serena could see the tiredness in those eyes.
She also selected a dish from the menu, just as Elena did. Suddenly, she felt so conscious. Glancing around briefly, she noticed everyone was in expensive clothes, and she stood out plainly.
I should have changed my dress. She thought sadly. After the waitress had received their order, she left them, promising to be back.
“So, Serena, how has it been for you? I mean staying at the king’s castle.” Elena inquired, initiating a conversation.
Elena really wanted to know what the relationship was between this little wolf and the king.
“It hasn’t been easy at all. But with Isaac, everything has been going smoothly and much better.” Serena responded.
Elena nodded once.
“I’m glad he is there for you, although he looks like a jerk.” Elena snorted.
Serena’s mouth flew open at her comment. She doesn’t know whether to laugh or stay quiet.
“What about the king, really? How did you manage to piss him off that he turned you into his slave?” Elena asked again, folding her arms on the table.
“I spilled hot coffee on him,” Serena murmured shamefully.
“How many times now, huh? You really do enjoy spilling coffee on him; I’m starting to think that.” Elena mocked, smirking visibly.
“No, it’s not like that. The first incident was purely an accident; the second incident was also an accident; and the third incident was caused by my fear for him. He suddenly shifted while I was standing next to him, causing the coffee to splash all over him. I didn’t mean either of them.” Serena spoke quickly, almost palming her face in regret as the memories surfaced. She really does mess up sometimes. Literally.
“It’s okay. People make mistakes.” Elena spoke with a hint of humor in her voice.
“Not with the king. He nearly killed me the day before, but Adam, his beta, miraculously saved me. I’m really scared of him.”
“Come on; everyone fears him.” You don’t have to kill yourself over it. Even after so many years with him, I still fear him very much.” Elena said it sincerely.
“Really?” Serena looked up at her in bewilderment.
“Um.. yes.” Elena shook her head in response.
The waitress brought them their food. She neatly placed it on their table, even though Serena had no clue what it was. It looked delicious, so she dug into it.
“You see, I’ve known the king since we were children. He is like that because he is always alone, has no family, doesn’t have many friends either, and his mate-” Elena paused, chewing her food for a moment, as she got lost in her thoughts before turning back to Serena.
“Anyway, what I’m really trying to say is that he hates females; he doesn’t hate you in particular, so you shouldn’t kill yourself because the king punished you. He does that a lot; he doesn’t usually favor anyone; all you have to do is remain strong.” Elena advised.
“Why does he hate females?” Serena couldn’t help but ask, chewing down her meal absentmindedly.
“Well, it’s related to a specific woman who… I should not be disclosing this information to you, but the woman claimed to love him. However, she is a thief, a liar, and a dubious individual-the absolute worst kind of person.”
“Aside from that, when the king was much younger, ladies older than him tried to forcefully get under his pants because of his good looks and position. He was almost raped.” Elena revealed a sad look on her face as she suddenly stopped eating. She stared down at her food, relieving the memories of the past.
Serena gasped in shock, almost choking on her food as she did. Does that mean he was molested? Is that it?
“What?” She finally found her voice.
No wonder he dislikes the female gender. Serena thought sadly, ignoring the stares she received from people.
“Serena, he was just a lonely boy back then.” He was not only a lonely boy carrying numerous burdens, but he also found himself compelled to ascend to the throne during that period. The king has actually gone through a whole lot on his own, and eventually, he shut everyone else out of his life and became the scary, cold king you know. One who does not show mercy.” Elena sighed sorrowfully.
“But… why are you telling me this, madam?” Serena asked her curiously.
“Because he needs to change. We are hoping a miracle can happen and he changes for the better.” Elena replied, and before she could say anything else, her phone vibrated in her pocket.
A low growl escaped her lips as she answered the call.
“It came from the office. I have got to leave now; the king has left a lot of things to me. I need to go take care of his empire.” Elena stood up, grinning sadly at Serena.
“So, Serena, be strong and don’t think too badly of him.” You’ll get through this, and everything will turn out in your own favor soon. Just stay loyal to him and show him that you are more than what you appear to be. Show him that it’s okay to let people help him.” She dropped a wad of cash on the table before leaving the restaurant.
Be strong and don’t think badly of him.” Everything will turn out in your own favor soon. Just be loyal and prove yourself greater than you seem.” Serena repeated Elena’s words to herself.
“Why would she say those words to me?” Serena thought out loud, resting her back against the chair.
She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn’t notice Isaac approaching her table.
“What words?” He quizzed, taking Elena’s seat and taking a bite out of her meat.
Serena smiled at him before shaking her head.
“Never mind.” She mumbled.
“Oh, so you are keeping secrets from me now, huh!?” Isaac feigned annoyance, dropping the food.
His sister laughed, playfully sticking out her tongue at him.
Isaac scoffed before rolling his eyes.
“But seriously, you have to explain to me why she did all this,” Isaac said, gesturing to the food and money on the table.
“I thought you listened, or something.”
“I didn’t. I just didn’t; I was hoping you could tell me.” Isaac pouted, and she sighed.
“She was just asking about how I’ve been coping, and I told her how my big brother has been making everything easy for me. She said that you are a jerk, an overprotective jerk.”
Issac huffed. I’m not a jerk. I’m only a charming player.” He confessed, patting his face proudly.
She burst out in laughter, earning irritated glares from other customers, but she paid them no mind. Hanging out with her brother was the best thing ever.
“Serena?” A familiar voice called out from behind her, and all the hairs at the back of her hair stood.
She would recognize that voice anywhere. Even in her sleep.
She, first of all, took pause; then she looked up to find Kate standing there, looking sophisticated and beautiful like the model she was.
“K-Kate?” Serena stuttered and stood to her feet, her eyes never leaving her sister.
“What are you doing here?” Her eyes moved between her and Isaac, who remained motionlessly at the table.
“I came here to…”
“Oh, I get it. Nate sharply interrupted her, He brought you here; follow me. I need to speak with you.” Kate started moving outside, swaying her hips seductively as she did.
Isaac stood immediately after Kate left, reaching out to stop Serena.
“Issac, it’s okay. I’ve lived with her since I was a baby; she won’t do more harm to me than she already did.” Serena whispered.
Upon her words, Isaac relaxed back on the seat. “I’ll be waiting.” He allowed her.
“Thank you.” Serena trailed Kate to her car’s parking spot. Her sister rested her back against her car, looking up at Serena with a frown.
“Being the CEO’s slave doesn’t have much of an impact on you. You are still the same.” Kate commented.
“You didn’t call to check up on me.”
“Why? Were you expecting me to call you?” Kate frowned.
It hurt her to hear this, but she said nothing, only lowering her head in shame.
“Anyway, who is that guy you’re with?” If I were you, I would steer clear of him. He looks like a player, and all he wants to do is get under your pants and use you. He couldn’t possibly ask someone like you to be his girlfriend. His girlfriend has got to be way cuter; she can’t be an ugly thing who brings misfortune.”
“It’s not like I really care who you hang out with; I’m just telling you to be careful. Any guy who dares come close to you will only want to use you. I understand guys, and that’s why I’m warning you.” Kate spoke harshly before glancing down at her nails.
“Why do you hate me so much?” Serena suddenly asked, and as she waited for an answer she couldn’t stop the water that formed in her eyes.
“Hate you? Why won’t I? You killed our mother. If only she hadn’t temporarily moved from my dad to yours, she would have still been alive till today.”
She left with your father who did nothing useful for her. Where is he today, anyway? I’m sure he doesn’t want you, either.” Kate hissed, no hint of remorse in her eyes
“Because of you, I lost my mom at a very young age. And you still ask me, Why do I hate you?” She spat angrily.
“You know, I didn’t ask for this either.” I didn’t have a mother to raise me either.” Serena cried.
“That’s because you killed her!”
Serena flinched at her use of words. Even though she had heard it a lot, it still hurt every time Kate word it that way.
“Can’t you forgive me? It’s been years already; can’t you just forgive me this once?”
Kate huffed and looked away.
“I don’t want to. I don’t think I can either, because whenever I look at you, I remember you as a monster who killed my mother.” She spat.
“Will you shut up already with your insults?” Isaac, who had been listening to their conversation in the restaurant, walked out angrily. She pinned a glare at Kate, who said nothing else, and instead got into her car and zoomed off, not sparing her sister another glance.
Isaac angrily shifted his attention to Serena, ready to yell at her for taking her insults but on seeing her tears, he held himself back.
“Gosh! What will I do with you, Serena?” Isaac grumbled as he pulled her into a warm hug.
Serena wrapped her hands around him immediately letting all her emotions out. It was another minute before she stopped, and once she was calm Isaac led her back to his car.
“You should not allow her to speak to you in such a manner.” She is even worse than the king, saying all those words to her blood sister. I’m sorry I didn’t come out earlier to stop her.” Isaac apologized.
“No, it’s not your fault. I’m used to her mean words already.” Serena sniffed, wiping her tears with her sleeve.
“Used to? Come on, with the way you’re crying, how can you say you’re used to it? It doesn’t show you are used to it because you’re obviously still getting hurt.”
“I’m crying because what she said is true: I killed my mom,” Serena spoke, blinking rapidly to prevent more tears from streaming down her cheeks.
“Hey! You didn’t kill your mom. Stop letting her get into your head!” Isaac slapped his hand on the steering wheel, drawing her attention to him.
“It’s simply true, Isaac. When she gave birth to Kate, she came back home pleased and in good shape, but she died in the labor room while trying to bring me into this world. If she had known that bringing me into the world could result in her own death, perhaps she could have chosen to abort me instead.” Serena cried
“Look, Sis. She is human. And you are a wolf; it’s only natural that she died bringing a wolf into this world when she was only human.”
“Humans aren’t as strong as they look. My best guess is that she already knew what she was signing up for when she agreed to keep you and bring you into this world. So quit crying, love. Your mother’s decision to bring you into the world was out of pure love for you.”
