Noah POV :
As Lily and I stepped in to the club, the cold night air vanished and a blast of heat swept over us. The dance floor was heaving, filled with couples gyrating against each other, and groups of friends dancing. The deep maroon walls were faintly lit by the flashing lights surrounding the DJ at the front. Glancing over towards the bar, I saw Jackie, Dick and Jen standing there with drinks in their hands. Turning around to look over my shoulder at Lily, I smiled and nodded to the bar.
They’re over there, I practically yelled over the music, reaching out and taking hold of her hand.
Guiding us through the crowd, I tried to avoid bumping in to other people, but the place was too crowded. Finally reaching the bar, I took a deep breath and wiped my forehead. The heat and overwhelming amount of people were starting to get to me, so I took off my jacket and placed it on the empty barstool next to me. Looking down, I undid the top three buttons of my grey shirt and rolled up the sleeves.
Hey guys, I smiled at the gang, Is it me, or is it frickin’ hot in here ?
I was just thinking the same thing, Lily grimaced, stepping up and sitting down on the stool in front of me.
Get a cold beer down ya bud, Dick grinned, saluting me with his own. All your worries will disappear.
Sounds good to me, I agreed, placing my hands on Lily’s shoulders and stroking them gently.
I smiled as she leaned in to me and looked up, a small smile on her face. So, what took you guys so long ? Jackie smirked, cocking an eyebrow. We left you ages ago, and you only just got here. Get lost on the way did ya ?
I didn’t have to look down to know that Lily was probably blushing. So it surprised me when she burst out laughing and squeezed my hand gently. Noah got a little flustered back at the apartment, Lily said, the amusement evident in her voice.
Okay, so, changing the subject totally, I shouted above the music, to the smiles of everyone. Jen, I would just like to say thank you for picking this dress for Lily. It certainly got my motor running.
Jen just shook her head and grinned at me, a knowing look in her eyes. I thought it would Noah. After all, Lily does look damn fine even if I do say so myself.
I couldn’t agree with you more, I smiled, leaning down to kiss Lily on the shoulder.
I felt her flinch beneath me at the unexpected contact, and I laughed softly to myself. As I looked up, Jackie and Jen took a step forward and both took hold of Lily’s hands, pulling her off the stool. I sighed at the loss of her body heat and put my hands down to my sides, already itching to touch her again.
It’s time to dance girls, Jackie shouted above the steady beat booming from the dancefloor.
Lily looked over her shoulder at me and shrugged as she was practically dragged through the crowd, the three girls soon finding an open spot at the edge of the floor. As I watched them all dancing and laughing at something Jen said, I felt a slap on my shoulder.
Turning around, I grinned when I saw Dean step to my side. Hey there Noah, so are you gonna buy your best bud a drink or what ?
Just got here and he’s already sponging for drinks, Dick snickered, taking a big sip of his beer.
Oh shut up dude ! Dean laughed, flipping him the finger. Say, do you wanna buy me a drink Dick ?
How about this ? I buy you a beer, and you call me Rich from now on. Deal ? He offered, raising an eyebrow at Dean.
I’ll take that deal, Dean grinned, holding his hands behind his back.
Looking down, I shook my head and smiled when I saw his fingers crossed. It was pretty obvious, as soon as he got that beer in his hand, he was going to go straight back to calling him Dick just because he knew it annoyed the hell out of him. And my point was proven barely a minute later when the young woman behind the bar handed him his beer. He took a huge gulp and sighed contentedly.
Thanks Dick. Appreciate it, he grinned, a foam mustache covering his top lip.
I burst out laughing at the annoyed look on Dick’s face. He was sending daggers at Dean with his eyes, and he looked ready to slap him. Dean just stepped forward and clinked his beer against Dick’s and grinned.
Cheers ! He cried, biting back a laugh.
Dick glanced at me and sighed, a defeated look on his face. It’s your own fault ! I laughed, You should have known. I mean come on, this is Dean we’re talking about.
He just nodded and took another sip of his beer, still sending evil looks in Dean’s direction. So, where are the girls ? Dean asked, turning around and leaning on the bar. Is, uh, is Jen here by any chance ?
I caught Dick’s eye and grinned and he looked back at me with a knowing look. Why do you care if Jen’s here ? I smiled, nudging him on the shoulder. Have a little crush there do you Dean ?
Me ? A crush on Jen ? He laughed nervously, pointing at himself. Puh lease. I was just wondering because, well, you know…
Spit it out, Dick said, a smug grin on his face.
Oh you two can just kiss my ass, he mumbled, barely audible above the music.
Nah I don’t think so, I laughed, shaking my head. We’ll leave that to Jen.
Absolutely, Dick nodded, patting Dean on the shoulder.
While Dean and Dick argued with each other like a pair of five year olds, I turned to face the bar and saw Pete standing there, the girl from earlier now serving at the opposite end. Smiling at him, I nodded my head but he just stared back at me, his face expressionless. Hey Pete, I said, wondering what his problem was. Whenever he saw me, he tended to act rather strangely.
Noah, he eventually nodded, his face still emotionless. You’re here with Lily I presume.
Yeah, I smiled, wondering why he always seemed so interested in Lily. She’s dancing right now with my sister and Jen.
So things are going well between you ? He asked, leaning on the counter behind him with his arms folded. How wonderful for you.
Uh, thanks I guess, I said, knowing it wasn’t totally meant in a nice way. Oh, thanks for those coupons by the way, I have one here.
I handed the coupon over and asked for a beer, standing there awkwardly as Pete handed one to me without saying another word. Turning back around, I saw Dean and Dick watching me with questioning looks on their faces.
What the hell is that dude’s problem ? Dick asked, making a face at me.
So you picked up on it too huh ? Dean nodded.
Hell yeah I picked up on it, Dick said. That dude is all kinds of weird.
Guys don’t wory about it, he’s harmless, I said, taking a sip of the beer and sighing with pleasure as the cool liquid hit my throat. He’s just a bit strange.
If you say so, Dean muttered, turning to face the dancefloor. So where’s
I looked at Dean, waiting for him to finish his sentence but he seemed to be completely zoned out. Raising an eyebrow at Dick, I saw that he was staring towards the dancefloor as well, his eyes looking glazed over. Following their line of sight, I saw Jen and Jackie doing some of their best dance moves on the edge of the floor. Both of the guys were totally engrossed watching them, but as I glanced around, I couldn’t see Lily anywhere.
But as my gaze wandered over to the DJ, I saw a girl talking to him wearing a red backless dress that I would recognise anywhere. I watched as the DJ nodded and smiled at Lily. After a minute, she stepped down and walked back over to Jen and Jackie, a satisfied look on her face.
