Book:My happiness to you Published:2024-9-2

Listen, I’m here to watch my girlfriend play and no offence, but it seems like your not even interested in the game, I said honestly. So I’m gonna get back to the match if you don’t mind.
Without waiting for an answer, I turned back around and searched for Lily again. I chuckled to myself when I heard the girl huff out an annoyed breath and stomp off, her high heels clacking against the surface of the bleachers. Whilst my eyes scanned the pitch, I could feel Jen’s gaze on me. Looking at her out of the corner of my eye, I bit my lip.
What are you staring at ? I asked anxiously, wondering if there was something on my face.
Turning to face her, I was surprised to see her smiling at me, a genuine, happy smile. You’ve got it bad, haven’t you ? She said, her smile growing even wider.
Maybe, I muttered, frowning at her.
Are you kidding me ? She laughed, slapping my shoulder playfully. If this was two months ago, you would have been all over that girl, but you didn’t even think about it did you ?
Staring at her, I knew she could tell, so there was no point denying it. No, I didn’t consider it. There’s no-one for me but Lily.
I shook my head, but couldn’t help grinning as Jen shuffled up the seat and hugged me briefly. This is the happiest she’s been in a long time. And I have a feeling it’s all down to you, so I just wanted to say thank you, for helping my friend.
Nodding, I couldn’t help but feel a swell of happiness on hearing those words. She may not be fully healed yet, but Lily was on her way to being completely happy again. Reaching down, I picked up one side of the sign and shook it, indicating for Jen to hold the other side. She took hold of the right and we both stood up, waving the sign around and shouting like a couple of lunatics. And as we cheered at the top of our lungs, I spotted Lily staring at us, a huge grin on her face.
*80 minutes later*
Jen and I waited at the side of the pitch as Lily ran towards us. As she got closer, I noticed her hair was flowing freely behind her, all wavy and curly. Her cheeks were flushed, contrasting with her beautiful pale skin. When she reached us, she flew in to my arms and laughed. I caught her, but stumbled back and fought to keep my balance to prevent us both from toppling over.
Did you see the goal ? She smiled, kissing me briefly before letting go and high fiving Jen.
Of course I did. You were awesome out there, and can I just say, I am digging that uniform gorgeous, I smirked, eyeing her up and down.
Yeah, what he said, Jen nodded, Except the whole digging the uniform part.
Lily laughed as she bounced on the spot, obviously still bursting with energy. So do you guys want to go get a smoothie or something ? she asked us both.
Sounds like a plan, I smiled, stepping forward and entwining her fingers with mine. Whaddya say Jen, up for it ?
She sighed and looked at us regretfully. I can’t. I’m meeting my friend Olivia in the library to study.
I stared as Lily burst out laughing, an incredulous look on her face. You !? She questioned. Going to the library ? I don’t think you’ve stepped foot in to the library since you’ve been here. Do you even know where it is ?
Heyyy ! Jen huffed. Of course I know where it is, it’s right over well it’s to the oh it’s next to oh screw you !
I burst out laughing as Jen stormed off, flipping us both the finger as she left. Have fun ! I yelled sarcastically, earning myself another finger wave before she disappeared around the corner.
Chuckling, I turned around to face Lily, who was smiling up at me. Her grey eyes were highlighted by the suns rays, and she looked gorgeous. The red tint had faded from her cheeks, but it was still faintly visible. Leaning down, I kissed her softly on the forehead, her skin tasting sweet and sunkissed. Pulling back, I squeezed her hand and began walking with Lily falling in place beside me.
Hey, you know what I just realised ? I asked her, looking down.
What’s that ?
Well, I smiled. In exactly ten days, we’ll be at the airport picking up my sister and future brother in law.
Yep, and I’m looking forward to it, she replied, bumping my shoulder.
Really ? It’s just when I asked you, you seemed nervous about it.
Well of course I’m nervous college boy. But I’m excited too.
I grinned widely, a surge of happiness running through me as I thought about Lily meeting my family. As I glanced at her out of the corner of my eye, I knew that my family would love her.
And in the back of my mind I couldn’t help but say to myself, ‘Just like I do…’
Lily POV (*10 days later*) :
I was pacing back and forth, running my hands through my hair for the twentieth time. Noah was coming to pick me up any minute now and I still couldn’t decide what to wear. Meeting his sister and brother in law was giving me a stomach ache, and I was starting to feel sick. Just as I walked over to my wardrobe and yanked it open a little harder than necessary, I heard a faint knocking on my bedroom door.
Hey, it’s me, Jen said from the hallway. Can I come in ?
Sighing, I jogged over to the door and opened it to see Jen standing there, an amused look on her face. What’s wrong with me ? I asked, I never usually give a flying fig about this kind of stuff, so why am I getting so flustered ?
She laughed softly and stepped in to the room, eyeing the sweat pants and vest top I was wearing. You just want to make a good impression, that’s all, she smiled, I’ll help you find something but you know, you shouldn’t be worried. Of course they’re going to love you, just like I do.
I smiled and hugged her briefly. You really are a good friend.
Ha ! She laughed, slapping me on the back causing me to stumble forward slightly. I’m the best, and don’t you forget it.
She winked at me, before stepping over to my wardrobe and putting her hands on her hips. As I watched her, I collapsed on to the bed and waited constantly eyeing my clock, wary of the limited time I had until Noah arrived. Just as my patience disappeared and I leapt up to help with the search, Jen turned to face me with a huge grin on her face.
We’ve got a winner ! She said happily, reaching in to the wardrobe and pulling out a yellow dress I couldn’t remember unpacking.
Is that mine ? I asked, frowning at it. It definitely didn’t look like something I would wear.
It must be, Jen shrugged, walking over to the bed. Although I have to say Lily, I didn’t think this was your kind of thing.
Ohhhh ! I remember it now. My aunt Flo bought it for me before I moved here, I smiled fondly, my mind drifting back home. She packed it for me but I took it out of my suitcase. She must have snuck it back in and I just didn’t realize when I put it in the wardrobe.
Thankyou Aunt Flo ! Jen shouted, throwing her hands in the air and laughing loudly.
So you think that’s the one ? I asked nervously, running my hand through my hair again.
Yep. It looks great so you put this one on and
Suddenly, a loud knock came from the living room and I took a deep breath, snatching the dress off Jen and practically shoving her out the room. Go answer the door, it’ll be Noah. Just tell him I’ll be five minutes.
Ok, ok. Jeez, stop pushing me woman ! Jen whispered as she stumbled in to the hallway.
Before I had a chance to shut the door, she spun around and gave me a brief hug, before pulling back and smiling at me. I’m glad you’re happy again. I’m proud of you, you know.
