Liam sat lost in silence, his mind racing with thoughts of the unconscious Isabelle lying on the sick bed in front of him, she had been moved to a normal ward after the operation. Memories of her smiles and their good and special moments together flooded his brain. But now, his thoughts were consumed by the image of her fragile body lying lifelessly on the bed.
He picked up his smartphone, staring expectantly at the screen with his brows furrowed in irritation. “What’s taking him so long to deliver the feedback I asked for?” He muttered to himself, his fingers trying to dial a number but as luck would have it, a knock came on the door.
“I’m sorry I didn’t call you back immediately. I just felt you needed to hear this in person” Adrian rapidly explained as soon as he entered the room. “The incident has no iota of connection with Penelope’s. it’s different and was done by a different cause”
“What are you talking about, Adrian?” Liam asked, his tone filled laced with confusion, his gaze lingering on Adrian who placed his laptop on a vacant table in the room. “What information have you gathered?”
Adrian played a video on the laptop, pointing to something, “There, that is the man that ran Miss. Marino over. If I zoom it in, you can see that the man had clear intentions of hitting her but he was also drinking, the perfect explanation for his sloppy hit.. he had missed her vitals because he was drunk”
Liam gaze lingered on the video like he wanted to pierce through the culprit and stab him to death with his deathly glares. “How do we find him?… I want him to rot in jail and also provide reasons for his abominable act”
“Well, I already found him…”Adrian revealed, his tone confident as he displayed a digital map on the screen. “I also informed the police about the case and they have already begun their search for the man. We should be getting a call from them very soon”
Liam breathed in relief as his gaze darted to the sleeping Isabelle, he had promised to protect her but had failed. He needed to bring the culprit to book to ensure her safety later on. “Are sure are you sure that this incident has nothing to do with Penelope’s killer”
“I am one hundred percent sure of it, sir” Adrian replied with an affirmed tone, nodding his head. “It has no relation with it. I’m quite sure when we find the hit-and-run driver, we will be able to easily know the people who hired him. His information says that he’s been doing jobs like this for a while now, meaning he was hired to do the job. Penelope’s killer made sure that the driver that had hit her and the nurse were people willing to end their lives to hide the truth…”
Adrian paused to catch his breath before adding, “The biggest mistake the mastermind made was hiring a newbie who didn’t know how to cover his trace”
“Indeed.. they messed with the wrong woman,” Liam said, his hands balled into a fists and his jaw clenched in anger as he thought of the audacity of such people who tried to harm his Isabelle. A big mistake indeed. A phone call came through on Adrian’s phone. He spoke with the caller for a while, ended the call, and turned to Liam.
“Sir, the man has been caught and arrested. The divisional police officer wants us to come down to the station” Adrian disclosed, excitement echoing in his voice. “That’s a very good opportunity to interrogate the man ourselves”
“Let’s go” Liam strode out of the room without a second thought. All he wanted now was to smash his fist in the face of the man who dared to harm his belongings.

“Good day, officer. We are here for the car accident suspect that was brought in here a while ago” Adrian spoke to the police officer standing at the front desk, his boss standing beside him in an eerie silence, ready to unleash his anger on the officer, if he refused to cooperate.
The police officer arched an eyebrow in confusion but suddenly remembered something. His gaze widened in disbelief as he gazed at the two men in front of him,” are you Mr. Callahan and the tech guy that we are expecting?”
“Yes, exactly” Adrian cut in, his tone laced with impatience. “We need to see the suspect now”
“Right this way,” the officer said as he led them to the cell where the man was locked up. “There he is. I’ll bring him to the waiting room”
The battered man with traces of scars on his half-baked body was made to sit on a chair across a table that prevented Liam, who sat on the other side, from hitting him. He had to control himself. The image of his last visit to the station flashed in his mind. Isabelle had warned him not to ever unleash his anger in a place where the law was held in high esteem.
Liam gazed at the tan-skinned man who had hurt his Isabelle, venom dripping from his lips as he spoke, “What excuse do you have for trying to murder my fiancee?”
The man scoffed and looked away, not ready to release any information to him. “You’re not getting anything out of me”
“Oh! Is that so?” Liam asked, an evil smile curved on his lips as he glanced at Adrian who quickly handed him a tablet with a video on it. He played the video in front of the man whose expression turned pale. “I know your daughter is battling with a breathing disorder, but that not a good reason for getting involved in crimes like this. How do you think she’ll feel growing up knowing that her dad is a murderer?”
Liam paused to make sure his words were having the desired effect on the man.” If you can tell me who hired you, I’ll pay for your daughter’s surgery so she doesn’t have to suffer for the rest of her life anymore” Liam felt a hint of pity for the man but he was mostly doing it because he didn’t want another enemy to go unpunished.
Tears kept falling from the man’s eyes, guilt washed over him as he watched his daughter struggle with her breathing. He only wanted a better life for her, but now that he thought of it, he had never imagined how their lives would be if she found out he had gotten his hands stained with the blood of innocent lives to keep her alive. “Do you promise to take care of her?”
“I never go back on my words” Liam replied, his tone resolute as he waited patiently for the man to give him the answer he solely desired, the mastermind behind the accident that almost claimed the life of his beloved.
