“What exactly is she not telling me?” Isabelle muttered to herself as she left the spot she was standing on for a while, her curiosity piqued as she made to cross the road after noticing the pedestrian light turn green.
As Isabelle walked alone, her feet carried her forward absentmindedly, while her mind wandered to a distant place. Lost in the thoughts of her last conversation with Rachael, she didn’t notice the world around her. All she was eager to know about was the identity of the woman Rachael was hiding from her.
Her eyes gazed downwards and her shoulders slumped, she was oblivious to the dangers lurking around her. Suddenly, the screech of tires pierced the air, and time seemed to freeze. Isabelle abruptly raised her head to the calling of her name. Her gaze darted to the source of the voice.
“Run away, come here now” the voice of an old man yelled out to her, making her confused as to why the man had a horrified expression on his face. She followed the man’s gaze to her left side and noticed the running car racing towards her direction. By the time her brain had processed the dreadful situation, it was already late. The car hurtled towards her, its headlight illuminating her distracted face.
In a split second, the vehicle struck her with a heavy thud, sending her body flying to the ground. The reality around her snapped back into focus but her mind remained shrouded in a haze, her ears buzzing as the only thing she could hear was the fading sound of people’s voices calling out to her.
“Madame, what were you thinking walking on a highway like that?” A young woman scolded the almost unconscious Isabelle. The car that had hit her already run off without a hint of sympathy for the person he had almost killed.
“We need to rush her to the hospital. Please, help me carry her but gently. I think her bones are dislocated. The impact of the hit was brutal” the same young woman uttered, her gaze on the strong-built men standing before her. “The nearest hospital should be on the next street… I just hope she won’t be maimed for life”
The two men rushed her to the Xavier General Hospital on the next street, shouting to the lady nurse at the reception to come attend to them. Fortunately, the doctor was standing right there with the lady.
“What is the problem?” The Doctor asked, his voice calm and professional as he signaled to the nurse to get a stretcher. “Calm down.. the victim will be fine”
One of the men quickly gathered his thoughts and explained the problem to the doctor. “She was hit by a speeding car which didn’t pay hide to the traffic light by the roadside”
At that moment, the body of the unconscious Isabelle was placed on a stretcher, being rolled to the operation room to stabilize her condition”
“We need a guardian to sign some papers before we commence the operation, do you…..” The doctor was saying before he instantly recognized the patient before him. He turned to another nurse and said, with urgency and great trepidation in his tone. “Call Mr. Callahan… Tell him his fiancee was involved in an accident… We’ll proceed with the operation before he gets here. Any delay could tarnish her reputation, cause he won’t take it lightly with us if we lose the woman”

“Mr. Callahan” Sarah barged into the office in a panicked state, cold sweats dripping from her forehead as her gaze turned apologetic. “Sir… We got a call from the Xavier’s general hospital….”
“Sarah, you better have a good reason for barging into my office announced” Liam snapped, his gaze showing that his mood wasn’t right. “What is it?”
“Sir… It’s Madame, your fiancee” Sarah revealed frantically. “She got hit by a car and is in a very life-threatening situation right now”
Liam froze on his spot, his mind trying to register what he had just heard. He felt like his whole world was trampled upon by the devastating news. How could she have been involved in a car accident just after he had left her in the house, safe and sound. He stood up sloppily from his chair and walked out of his office, his footsteps heavy with deep anxiety.
“Take care of the company while I’m gone” he mumbled incoherently to Sarah who didn’t understand but couldn’t ask for fear of angering her already furious boss. Within a few seconds, Liam had already driven out of the company at a very high speed, and in no time, he arrived at the hospital to meet a nurse waiting for him.
“Welcome sir, we’ve been expecting…..”
“Where is she?…. Where’s my fiancee?” Liam roared at the innocent-looking nurse, who shivered in fear and did not dare to complete her words.
“She’s… She’s in the operating room… The group of surgeons are attending to her” the nurse stuttered, her gaze firmly on the ground to avoid Liam’s glacial and scary gaze.
Liam kept on pacing up and down the hospital as he waited for the doctor to come out of the operating room. He had a disturbing feeling in his heart, a feeling that told him something wasn’t right. He could figure out that later, first, he needed to be sure of Isabelle’s well-being.
After what seemed like an hour, Doctor Charles emerged from the room drenched in sweat, sighing in relief. He was quick to detect Liam’s presence and walked up to him with a clear conscience.
“Mr. Callahan.. the lady’s condition is stable now, you have nothing to worry about” the doctor revealed with caution as he watched the darkened expression on the furious man’s face revert to normal.
“What exactly happened?” Liam questioned, his trembling heart finally settling as he stared at the doctor waiting for his answer. “What causes the accident?”
“I’m not a police officer but what I can say is this; the same incident that happened to Lady Penelope has repeated itself but luckily this time, the car had missed her vitals… I can’t say what exactly happened… You can tell your technician to check it out” Doctor Charles explained in detail as he watched Mr. Callahan make a phone call.
“Adrian, have you heard the news?….. Check the footage of the accident and who the god-damned, forsaken driver is responsible.. it’s looks like it’s related to Penelope’s accident.. get back to me immediately” Liam ordered to the receiver on the other end without giving him a chance to respond.
