Melody went out of the bathroom and dried her hair. After using the new shampoo brand, she could smell her hair having the same scent as Damian. Her hair also felt so smooth and silky.
“Huh. It’s worth it,” she talks to herself.
She shut her bedroom door before straight to the downstairs. The head butler came right toward her when he saw her existence.
“Ma’am, dinner is served,” he bowed his head.
Melody nods. She was about to follow him to the dining room, but her steps halted as she heard something ringing. She furrows her eyebrows and looks at the head butler, who already disappeared into the dining room.
She follows the ringing sounds, and they lead her to the living room. Her head peeked inside only to see it empty. There’s a laptop and some paperwork scattered on the couch and coffee table.
“This is Damian’s stuff. He probably doing his work here,”
Her gaze fell on his phone on the couch, ringing. Melody looks around only to see no one around.
“Mr. Angelo!! Your phone is ringing!!!!” Melody yells out for him.
Yet, there’s no response from anyone, even Damian. No sign of him. She lets out a huff. She knows it is not good to be nosy, but she just wants to check who it is.
It was an unknown number.
The ring has stopped, but after a few seconds, it starts ringing again. Melody felt annoyed and decided to pick it up.
“Hello?”
“Melody?”
The voice makes her heart drop. She knows who is this. She recognized this voice very well. The one who gives her a miserable life and changes everything just by existing in this world.
“Y-Yes…”
“Aaa, so I was right. I know you just by recognising your voice,” Frank chuckles. He didn’t expect her to pick up the phone.
He plans to confront Damian once again, and it seems like luck is on his side today.
“What do you want? Mr. Angelo is nowhere to be seen. He probably has something to do,” Melody quickly changed the topic.
“Oh, dear. I don’t want to talk with him. The reason I call him is to talk with you, but… but that guy wouldn’t let me,” he grumbles, remembering the way Damian forbids him to talk with her.
Melody furrows her eyebrows. Did Damian do that? But why?
“Why do you want to talk with me?” she questioned.
“Listen, can we meet, dear?” he says gently.
Somehow, it didn’t give comfort or soothe her heart. That tone only gives a shiver down her spine. She clears her throat, trying to sound brave and unbothered by his tone.
“Why do I have to meet you? I got nothing to do with you anymore,”
Frank lets out a chuckle. “You? Got nothing to do with me? You got to be kidding me,”
“You ruin my plan. You get in my way. You got much more than anything to do with me, Melody. Remember, don’t ever think you are free of all of this after leaving the house,”
She knows that very well.
“Your words didn’t affect me,” she says firmly
Frank was silent for a moment. He knows she is getting brave, but he could sense a bit of nervousness in her tone. He let out a laugh.
“You become a woman, huh?”
“If you have nothing to say, I will go now,”
Melody is about to hang up but halts when Frank chuckles. “Calm down, dear. I’m just saying.”
“I just want to meet you, that’s all.”
“I said no, right? Are you deaf?” she scowls.
“It’s okay if you don’t want to. But… if you go, there’s a possibility that you probably could have your father’s property back,”
“Father’s… property?”
Frank knows this will change her mind. She will do anything to get it back and he knows it. Melody was stunned when she heard those sentences. Her father’s property?
“Well, think about it dear. At my mansion. Afternoon. I will be waiting for you,”
By that, he hangs up. Melody lets out a deep sigh. She knows she shouldn’t go knowing nothing good coming from his step-father.
But when Frank mentions her father’s property, there’s a conflict in her heart. Should she tell it to Damian?
“What are you doing with my phone?”
Damian’s voice makes her yelp, and she almost drops the phone. She turns around, trying to look cool.
“Where did you come from? How long have you been standing there?” she questioned.
“Long enough to see you standing there like a statue,” Damian crossed his arms on his chest.
“Oh….” she sighed in relief, knowing he didn’t hear the whole conversation just now.
“Are you okay? You look sweaty,” he arches his eyebrows.
“I’m fine. Just fine. I uh… warming up just now,” Melody starts to stretch out.
Damian stares at her.
Melody felt like the silence was getting thicker and awkward. She clears her throat and gives his phone back to him.
“Here. Let’s eat, yeah?” she grins and quickly dashes out of the living room.
Meanwhile, Damian just watched her figure disappear. He looks at the phone in his hand and then continues to walk after her.
The dark sky has covered the whole sky. Stars decorated the whole sky. Melody is sitting on her bed with a book on her lap, staring out the window. The curtain flew slightly due to the soft breezes.
Her mind wandered off.
She didn’t know what to do. Frank’s words keep repeating inside her mind. If she told Damian about it, she could feel he wouldn’t let her. Why? After Frank tells her Damian forbids him to speak with her, she starts to have a second thought.
Melody let out a deep sigh and leaned her head on the headboard.
The door opened, and it was Damian. She turns her head and arches her eyebrows. It surprised her since Damian never came in here without her asking.
“Yes? Do you come to read me a bedtime story?” she grins.
Damian looks at her with frowns, “Fuck no.”
He shuts the door and sits on the bed with first aid with him. Melody is eyeing the first aid, thinking that must be for her.
“Give me your wrist,” he demands.
“My wrist is fine. It’s just a bruise,” Melody grunts but lets him see her wrist.
Damian hummed. He unwrapped her bandage and started doing his things. “You should feel glad that I come to check. Do you know how much I waste my energy to come to your room?”
“I didn’t ask you to,” Melody rolls her eyes. “Besides, who ask you to give me a separate room? I feel like I’m still a single woman,”
“That’s because I don’t want to sleep with you,” he says nonchalantly.
“It’s not like I take over the bed,” Melody frowns.
“I don’t care.”
“Oh come on. You got to let me try even once, sir?” she blinks her eyes.
Damian looks at her with a sour face. Despite his annoyance with bringing her to sleep with him, there’s a bit of an urge to say yes. He shakes his head slightly and smacks her wrist, causing her to yelp in pain.
“Hey!”
“Your tricks wouldn’t work on me,” he gets up and packs his stuff, “Go to sleep.”
He is about to walk but stops, “I forgot. Here. You bracelet.”
Melody is taken aback by his action. The bracelet where she bought it when they were in Thailand. She just noticed that Damian was still using the matching bracelet. She didn’t say much and just took it from him.
“Make sure you wear it,” he turns around.
“I thought you threw it away,” she says softly.
“I didn’t. Just upgrading it,”
Upgrade?
Damian walks toward the door. Melody glares at her while rubbing her wrist and wearing the bracelet. Suddenly, he stops at the doorway. He turns around, looking at her with a serious gaze.
“Melody, is there something you wanted to tell me?” he questioned.
She blinks her eyes in confusion. Then she shakes her head. Damian stares at her for a minute before nods and leaves. The door shut closed.
“What is wrong with that old man?” she mumbles.
Melody let out a deep sigh as her mind wandered off to Frank. After a moment, she finally decided to go and meet him by herself. For her father’s property, she would do anything to have it back.
She gets up and closes the window before locking it. She determined to meet Frank on her own.
Damian went to his study room and closed the door. Matthew and Victor look at him as he sits in front of them.
“So?” Victor arches his eyebrows.
“She wouldn’t speak about it,” he poured some wine into his glass.
“You got to confront her,” Matthew chimed in.
“There’s no use of it. I want to see how much she can be a troublemaker for once,” he takes a sip of his wine.
Victor furrows his eyebrows, “It is dangerous for her to go alone. You know how Frank is,”
He let out a low chuckle.
“Do you think I let her go alone?”
“You didn’t?” Matthew frowns.
“Of course, I didn’t. I will send them to spy on her and watch her from afar. They will jump in when Melody is in danger,” Damian explains, swirling the wine in his glass.
“Why you just don’t let them come with her?” Matthew questioned in confusion.
“No. I know how Frank is. I want him to think that he can use Melody since he knows that girl would do anything to get her father’s property,”
Damian smirks.
