Chapter 30

Damian woke up by the noise downstairs. He grunts and opens his eyes, seeing the sunlight through his curtain. He rubbed his face to make himself much more awake. The scene of yesterday comes into his mind.
He raises his bare hand covered in scald and some scars. That was his first time being held by someone, even though he was wearing his gloves. Somehow, he didn’t push it away.
“That girl is something…” he mumbles.
The noise downstairs takes his attention once again. He furrows his eyebrows from the loud noise. There’s no one else in this house that will make this much noise other than Melody.
Damian let out a deep sigh before deciding to get up. He leaves the room with only sweatpants and topless. Not forgetting his gloves. His tousled hair showed that he had just woken up.
He went downstairs. Some guards who saw him tense up knowing why their boss went downstairs looking grumpy.
“What with that noise?” he grumbles in annoyance.
“Um… it’s Mrs. Melody, sir,” one of the guards answers.
“That girl… where is she?” Damian sighs.
They point at the living room. He walks towards the living room, and it gets louder and louder. Damian pushed the living room door open and saw Melody having her blast time.
Karaoke.
She dances while holding her microphone, singing her heart out. He glances at the clock on the wall, and it’s only 7 in the morning. It seems like this girl woke up earlier than he thought.
Damian grunts and throws his head back in annoyance. What did he do to deserve this kind of treatment?
Melody, in her floral dress, dances around the room, not acknowledging the presence of her husband. Without saying anything, he came towards the television plug and pulled it out.
“What the…. is it broken??” Melody frowns. She turns around and yelps, “Woah! Since when you are there?”
“Since yesterday,” he says sarcastically.
Damian holding the plug in his hand, “What the fuck are you doing in this fucking early morning? It’s only 7 in the morning, Melody,”
“Can’t you see? I’m karaoke,” she rolls her eyes.
“I can see that. I’m not blind yet, thank God,” Damian sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose. “The point is… you karaoke in early morning, you dumb shit.”
Melody scoffs. She let herself fall on the couch, crossing her legs, “You are no fun. You always wake up late. That’s why you are always in a grumpy mood.”
“It didn’t relate at all,” he narrows his eyes on her.
“Come on, have fun for a short time. I’m sure you going to like it,” she smiles.
“Fun is not my thing, and I just want to fucking sleep. If you don’t mind, stop this shit and let me sleep for another hour,” Damian throws the plug on the floor.
“If you keep it that way… you would never feel the moment of fun even in a single minute when you are old,” she sighs.
“Killing is fun,” he bluntly said.
There’s a moment of pause from her. She clears her throat, “Well, other than that?”
“Other than that what?” he frowns.
“Come on, there’s no way that’s the only thing you enjoy,” Melody says as she gets up.
Damian shrugs his shoulder, “It is. The sound of people crying and begging for mercy in their blood makes my excitement go wild.”
Melody is stuck in her place. As if something freezes her up. She knows that’s how his world is. She just didn’t expect him to be so straightforward about it like that. She awkwardly scratched her head.
“I see…”
She composed herself and went to him, “How about you try singing?”
“Hell no,” he quickly answers.
“Come on, just try-even once?” Melody held the microphone to him. “It wouldn’t hurt you.”
Damian glares at her, “I said no, didn’t I?”
“Just the first line, or one song only. You don’t have to sing like an artist,” she tries again, using her doe eyes.
“No means no. I’m back to sleep,” he walks off.
Melody hugs his arms tightly, “Please… just once?”
He grunts and pushes her face away, but she wouldn’t budge. The looks on her show that she wouldn’t back off until he said yes.
“Let go of me!!” Damian grumbles while trying to push her off.
“No! You have to sing so that I can show you what fun is!!” she hugged his arms tight. “I have to save you from dying of boredom!!”
“I wouldn’t die, you, damn it!!” he pulled his arms away, but then she hugged his waist.
Damian struggled to push her away while Melody laughed and kept on him to sing. The bodyguards who are on duty right now are just watching the scene. They try to hold back their smile.
They never saw their boss in this demeanour. Look pissed off but they could hear a hint of playfulness.
The living room door opens, revealing Victor. He lifted his gaze and was stunned to see the sight in front of him. Two married couple in their playful demeanour. A smirk tugged on his lips.
“I didn’t disturb anything, right?” he voice out, causing them to stop.
Damian and Melody were shocked to see Victor standing at the doorway. The bodyguards who guard the door stifle with laughter. Damian quickly pushes her off, causing her to fall. He clears his throat.
“V-Victor, when did you arrive?” he back to his stoic expression.
“Since just now. Do you need me to come back later since… you look-” Before Victor could finish, Damian cuts him off.
“No need!! We didn’t do anything,” Damian sighs. He pushes his hair backwards, “I will go clean myself up. Wait for me in my study room,”
Melody sat up from the floor and put her arms on the coffee table, “How about kara-”
“Melody, enough. Go make breakfast,” Damian glares at him but there’s a hint of embarrassment in it.
His gaze fell on her wrist, exposing her bruise. He knows where that bruise coming from. That must be from Teresa’s tight grips. Melody probably forgot to treat it or didn’t bother to care.
She chuckles under her breath knowing she made him shy. Damian leaves the living room. Victor looks at her with confusion.
“What did you do to him?” he questioned.
“Nothing. I just ask him to karaoke with me,” she shrugs her shoulder.
Victor chuckles lowly and shakes his head slightly.
After a while, Damian comes into his study room. He shut the door and went to sit on the chair. He glances at Victor, who is sitting in front of him, with knowing smirks.
“What with the smirks?”
“Nothing. Just… see something in you,” he grins.
“If you are going to talk about what you saw just now, it is useless. That woman is just being annoying like always,” Damian says firmly, sounding defensive.
Victor chuckles. “Yet you didn’t push her off,”
“Just shut up, Victor. It’s nothing, okay? Are you to be Matthew right now?” he frowns as he gets frustrated.
“I’m just saying though,” Victor smirks and shrugs her shoulder.
Damian rolls his eyes. He knows what his friend is thinking right now with a smirk on his face. He lets out a deep sigh. Not going to lie that he felt something in him just now. Just heard her laughter sounds so melodic.
Is that why her name is Melody?
“Anyway, I got the report about the company-” Victor’s sentence was interrupted by the sounds of the phone ringing.
Damian picks up the phone, “What?”
“Hello, Mr. Angelo. It’s me, Frank,”
