Alex’s POV
“Hello, this is not Jason,” a feminine voice said from the other side of the phone and I was wary. Who was it then?
“Who is it?” I asked him, wondering how and when he had decided cheating on his ‘Evelyn’ was cool.
“It’s Chloe, I’m his Gemma. He’s not around, he wolfed out.” Chloe said and I was momentarily confused. Wolfed out? In Miami?
“Wait. Where are you calling from?” I asked her suddenly suspicious and it took her a second before she responded.
“I guess you’re one of us so I will tell you. This is from the Silver crescent pack, alpha Jason has wolfed out.” The lady repeated again like I was some dumb child that couldn’t take a hint.
“So when can I speak to him?” I asked, pulling myself together with the realization that he had left my hotel, his girl and returned to his pack without so much as a heads up.
“When he gets back I’ll let you know he called.” She said it in a way that sounded intimate. I knew this because I’ve seen it and I’ve heard it before.
“Okay,” I muttered and let the phone drop.
I stared into space with the letter in my hands and I realized I thought about things way too much, I had been so concerned about Evelyn and he who was her fiancee had bailed. Just as I was about to go down for dinner, my phone rang again and I picked it up. It was Jason.
“You called,” he said into the phone and I almost yelled all of my frustrations at him.
“What the hell is your problem? Why did you leave town and not tell me! What the hell, what if something happened!” I asked and he scoffed, he literally scoffed.
“What could happen? Don’t be melodramatic,” he drawled and delivering bad news had never felt more interesting than it did then.
“Evelyn is gone she left a note saying she was leaving and she did. Took two pieces of jewelry, my wristwatches with her, I think for her survival so now what do you have to say for yourself?”I asked him and he was quiet, I could sense the sharp tinge of regret and pain and I knew he was feeling guilty but I didn’t care.
“Just get off my phone,” I muttered and cut the call, tossing the phone on the chair.
Evelyn’s Pov
It was cold where he had put me, in the space of two days I had attempted to run away three times so now we drove far to a farm house and he was not letting me out of the house even for fresh air.
I hate this, I thought to myself as I turned and squirmed struggling to get up.
“I need to use the bathroom!” I called out to Freddy and there was silence.
He had told me, against my very will, that he wasn’t even French and his name was Frederick, Fredo was a street name. The motor gang were gullible and they had been fooled by his faux French accent and behaviors.
For some reason he had been trying to justify all of his ills to me but I didn’t know how to tell him that tying me and keeping me against my will was not a way to prove his goodness to me.
“You’ve been screaming for the whole day, what is it? Are you ready to be compliant?” He asked me and I stared back at him with unhidden hatred.
“I need to use the bathroom, you’ve only given me water and I need to let it out,” I said and he came forward, what annoyed me most was that I could see the hurt in his eyes, the want.
“I will come with you,” he announced and I looked at him with unhidden hatred.
“What do you mean you’ll come with it? Why are you even holding me hostage? What of your vehicle riding friends?” I asked him again, irritated and upset that I was a captive!
He loosened the rope around my arms and then bent down to do the one around my feet. It confused me that he was soft and I was also compliant.
“I will follow you there, but you know if you try to run you can’t go so far,” he warned and I scoffed, I didn’t even have any plan of running anywhere.
The house was almost a shanty and I knew if it were somewhere that was mine I would have it cleaned up thoroughly. He led me through the hallway and then we entered a corner and climbed a stairs up.
“You mean there’s no bathroom down there?” I asked him in awe and he laughed. For someone reckless and dangerous as him, he had a nice smile, I was charmed.
“Not a usable one. It is out of practice. If that makes any sense,” he muttered and opened the door to a spacious bathroom space.
“You can go now,” I told him and he didn’t move.
“There’s nothing I haven’t seen.” He grounded and I shot him a dirty look, he shrugged and left.
I was more confident and knew what I wanted. I doubted if this was how I had been months ago when I was still the person I had forgotten.
“Please be fast!” He yelled and I looked around me, taking into the stylish tub. I wondered if he was the wonder of the house or if he had hijacked it from someone.
I didn’t bother to stand over the water system, I sat on it and when I was done I went to the faucet and turned on the tap, as the water rushed I thought of Jason and Alex. I’m sure one of them would have seen the letter and now they may search for me or not. If they did I’m sure it would just be for the plot and not cause they cared.
My heart ached for the love of a stranger but it was my reality now. Freddy not Fredo was my reality.
The door burst opened and he looked like he was expecting me to be climbing out the window. I stared at him till he became two.
“I don’t feel so good,” I muttered and saw black.
