They got to the hotel and held hands to walk to the elevator, Cade’s phone vibrated with a text message as they got into the elevator. Luckily for them, it was empty once more. Cade took out his phone and opened the message, the same number that had sent him messages earlier still sent him more.
Those were the messages he had been unable to attend to when she walked in on him. He stared at the messages. He could not call up the number to know who and why they were sending him these messages. He knew he had to find the sender of the messages and know why.
“Cade?” Ophelia asked her face on him with a worried expression across them.
“Yeah?” he asked snapping out of the trance he had been in for a moment.
“What’s it?”
“Nothing, just work” he muttered sliding the phone into his pocket.
Ophelia knew that look very well and she knew something was up and he did not want to tell her so he was going to respect his decision and keep to herself. “What should we do tomorrow?” she asked changing the topic. She had her own woes, so she was not going to intentionally add his own to hers anyway.
“You can plan it and I will make sure to show up and be on my best behaviour,” he said. Ophelia could hear his distracted tone but she was not going to make it her cup of tea. If he said it was nothing but work then she had no choice but believe him. There was no need for her to nag him.
“Okay, then I will plan a course for us. I hear that there are a lot of things to see and do here” she adds. She was excited after all it was a trip.
They detach from each other as soon as they make it back to the room. Ophelia goes to the room and locks herself in while Cade lies on the convertible bed in the living room. He was glad the hotel was onto something when they made the sofa convertible into a bed.
He took up his phone and stared at the screen. The messages still stared back at him, he could not understand what they meant.
I never left you, I have always been watching over you
When are you going to let me back into your life?
You are doing so well.
I hope that you can forgive me, I hope you can accept me.
I will soon be united with you. Just wait a little more.
He did not want to reply to the series of texts. Who could be so unhinged to send a variety of texts like this? The more important question was how they got his number. Judging by the frequency of the text he knew he had to do something to find the number so he called his assistant.
“Hello Mr Vale, I did not expect that you would call me during your honeymoon. You do not have to worry but instead take time to enjoy your vacation and honeymoon” Sue said as soon as she picked up.
She had watched how hard he had worked for the past few years and she knew that he deserved the break even though it was packaged as a honeymoon.
“So is everything okay with the company?” he asked as if he did not trust what she had reported to him.
“Do you not trust me?” she asked over the phone with a tone that expressed her disappointment in his statement.
“I do trust you but I still feel uneasy”
“Uneasy that I can not take care of things down here? Uneasy that your brother might screw things up?” she asked.
“Uneasy that you mentioned the company when I did not ask of it,” he said and she realized the error she had made.
“I only mentioned it because you were calling and it seems like this time is night there” she explained.
“I am not calling because I do not trust you, I know that if anything happens grandfather is there to set it straight” Cade said putting her mind at ease.
“Could you then be calling because you missed me?” Sue teased. She did not know she could get this close to this man, and it was even more weird that he was indulging her and responding to her every comment.
“Yes I do, I miss you to death” Cade answered knowing that this was a harmless conversation and Sue was just messing around.
“Careful now, I do not want to fall under the radar of your wife because she thinks I want her husband,” Sue said before taking a deep breath.
“As if she does care about things like that” Cade muttered under his breath.
“So what is this about?” Sue asked. She was not going to allow herself to get caught up in other family drama no matter how much she was getting paid. They got married because they convinced everyone they were meant for each other so it did not matter to her how they were doing as long as she did well in her job and constantly put food on her table.
“I have been receiving these weird texts, I have forwarded a screenshot of them to you,” Cade said. Sue took the phone away from her ears and studied them.
“Okay that is weird and to think they sent it more than once. Why don’t you call up the person and ask who they are?”
“Oh I wish I thought of that” he replied sarcastically. “Of course, I tried but the number is set to private”
“So what do we do?”
“Let us get the police involved”
“At this stage? Don’t you think it is too early to rule it as a stalking case?” Sue asked instantly knowing what Cade meant. This same thing had happened before and after a while, they stopped. The police had ruled it as an error from the person and it ended there.
“It feels different this time, can you just follow it up with them? Let them track down the location of the phone” Cade said.
“Okay sir, anything else?”
“No, just let us catch the stalker”
