Book:His Burning Obsession Published:2024-8-26

The last few days had been ‘Lucas-free-day’, I don’t know if he was avoiding me or probably I’ve been the one avoiding him.
It was like I’ve been set free from the cage of a dominant force.
I had hung out with Beatrice mostly at the library, I’ve told her that’s where I wanted to be for now and she agreed.
I kept my physics note in the locker and grabbed my biology notebook.
We would be having our class in the laboratory just that Mrs. Justin will make it a dull class for us.
“Lucas is the sweetest guy ever!”
My ears cringed at the statement, did I hear wrong or what?
Lucas of all people, he’s nothing but a devil to me and his victims.
Then I turned my gaze to see Jenny talking with her two puppies.
They seemed eager in what she was holding in her hands.
“Wow! These are real diamonds,” Bella gasped as a shiny light almost blinded my eyes.
“It’s beautiful!” Susan said dreamily, then I watched as Jenny wore the piece on her wrist.
I guess it’s a bracelet, it was dazzling vividly from afar.
“I told you guys, Lucas loves me so much!” Jenny said proudly as she swung her arms.
‘In your dreams! I wonder how Lucas will fall in love with a pest like her,’ I scoffed in myself.
“Let’s go girls, I won’t let a wretch fellow steal my bracelet with her gaze,” Jenny snickered, then it dawns on me they were talking about me.
I must have trailed off with what they were saying.
The trio gazed at me with a mock on their face as Jenny walked past me flipping her long hair.
I sighed and close my locker, heading to the lab room.

“Lamarck’s theory explained how evolution operated by proposing two ideas: the use and disuse of body parts and the inheritance of acquired traits,” Mrs. Justin explained.
Oh, God! I literally thought we were going to have some sort of practice when she announced to us we should meet her at the lab.
Here she is explaining the theories of evolution to us.
I yawned, trying to jot down the important points she’s trying to make.
I really need to attend YouTube classes for Biology, if I don’t want to fail the subject.
I need to pass every single subject, my dream is to graduate as the best student.
I just pray, my life doesn’t get jeopardize before realizing my dreams.
I’ve been doing well in my studies, making sure Lucas doesn’t spoil that for me.
I pictured myself as a wealthy woman, giving my mother and sister the joy and life they deserved.
“Baby, we should hang out this weekend!” Jenny’s annoying voice snapped me out of my new world.
I had forgotten I was sitting not too far from them.
I glanced towards them and saw Lucas’s boring eyes staring at me.
I swallowed immediately and face my front, I don’t know why he scares the shit out of me if I stare into his eyes.
He doesn’t look interested in what Jenny was saying, she’s nothing but a clingy bitch.
I bet she would have forced him to get that bracelet for her and showing it off to her friends.
The bell rang finally, and I packed my books immediately.
I was struggling to get down from the lab seat as someone bumped into me.
My books fell on the floor…
“Sorry, wasn’t watching where I was going!” A girl pleaded.
“It’s okay!” I replied flatly earning a pout from the girl.
I raised a questioning brow at her before she walked away.
I sighed and bent to take my book, only to be kicked to the front.
I knew that leg too well, it was Jenny’s.
“Leave the way Nerd, we need to pass,” she scoffed.
I looked up to see her arms around Lucas’s neck who just stared blankly at me.
I ignored her and walked to the front and picked my book.
I’m in no mood for her to pick up with me.
“Loser!” She smirked and walked away with Lucas.
I could see his jaw clenching hard.
He seemed to be angry.
My stomach rumbled as I walked through the hallway.
“Camilla!”
I turned round to see who was calling, it was my one and only friend.
Beatrice…
She bent slowly, trying to get hold of her breath.
“Were you running?” I asked amusedly.
“Yeah! I saw you coming out from the lab at the other end and I didn’t want to strain my precious voice cause you wouldn’t hear,” She stood up straight giving me a smirk.
“Moron!” I rolled my eyes.
“So what are you up to?” She asked as she threw her arms lazily around my shoulder.
“I’m hungry!” I admitted as I held my rumbling stomach with my other hand.
“Let’s go to the canteen, it’s break already,” Beatrice suggested like I didn’t know before.
“Sure, but let me keep my books in the locker,” I said.
Beatrice and I walked to my locker, after putting my books inside, we made our way to the canteen.
Students were coming in and out in groups, two’s, three’s.
“We’re not eating in the canteen,” I announced as the thought of seeing Lucas or Jenny made me quiver.
“Okay?” Beatrice said in a questioning tone.
” I just don’t feel like eating in the canteen, we can eat in the table tennis court and even play too,” I smiled.
“That sounds nice!” Beatrice giggled as we got into the canteen.

“Two hamburgers, cheese, and a strawberry milkshake,” Beatrice ordered while I stayed behind her.
“Here you go!” The lady behind the counter smiled as she handed us what we asked for.
“Let me help you with the milkshake,” I offered as Beatrice handed the drinks to me.
We made our way to the entrance as we kept chatting and laughing over some silly joke.
“Camilla be careful!” Beatrice alerted but before I could register what she was saying, I slipped over as the drinks in my hands flew into the air and I landed on the floor with a loud yelp.
There was a loud gasp in the entire building, I glanced behind me to see what slipped me.
The milkshake cup fell on the floor but the content was empty already and I cared less about it.
It was a fucking banana peel.
Who the hell, threw that on the floor?
I became nervous wondering why everywhere became silent.
Still lying flat on the floor, I faced my head to the front and noticed the expensive-looking sneakers.
My heart pondered crazily for some unknown reason.
‘This is so, so bad, very bad!’ My mind screamed at me.
I summoned the courage to trail my eyes on those pair of sneakers slowly to the owner’s face.
Every glint of hope I had drained off my face when my eyes came in contact with the real owner.
This has to be a dream!
Oh God!…
