Angel POV.
“Good night Ryan, I think I should get to bed before Evelyn goes insane on me, it’s already ten,” I say pointing to the time, I’ve been here since I came back from work, we had dinner, we shared a whole bottle of wine which made me feel all free and happy, it brought some kind of happiness into me that I didn’t know or imagined that a drink could bring.
“You could sleep in here if you want,” he suggested and I laughed.
“I didn’t understand what she said on the phone, but she sounded very angry,” I say with a giggle.
“Oh no princess, she didn’t say anything bad, she just said that I’m very welcome and okay to take any one of her littles, and she even said keep her here, let her sleep in,” he says.
“Now, you’re the one lying,” I say sobering up.
“That’s not a nice thing to say to a senior vampire, you could get in trouble for that,” he says in a cold voice, a voice that manages to scare me to hell and back.
“But I can tell lies too, and it’s not nice to lie to me, I know that she didn’t say that I could sleep here, she sounded very angry,” I say in a low voice, the fear getting the best of me, I just want to run to Evelyn and hide behind her back.
“Fine, she wasn’t happy that I took you without permission, but she’s fine with it, she just needed to make sure that you’re safe,” he says in a calmer voice, losing the cold tone.
“I’m gonna go down now, I want to sleep,” I say, but the only thing I want to do is get away from him.
“Fine, let’s go, I’ll walk you down,” he says, but I didn’t want to, I didn’t want to stay near him.
“I know how to get there, no need, thank you, Ryan, for everything,” I say trying to get away but the cold look didn’t leave his face, he was still looking at me the same cold way, he opened the door and guided me out, refusing to let me go alone.
I walked out of the apartment, toward the corridor, I ordered the elevator and waited for the door to open, when it did, I walked into it and he walked in after me, I stood in the corner trying to get away from him, but he didn’t seem to mind, he got closer to me, close enough to touch me.
He bent his knee and now we were on the same eye level, our lips touched, it was a quick kiss, it hardly lasted for three seconds, then he pulled back, he placed a finger under my chin lifting my head to make sure that my eyes stayed on him the whole time.
“I really enjoyed this, let’s do it again, princess,” he said as we got to my floor, he walked me toward my door and opened the door for me, I couldn’t talk, I couldn’t say anything more, I just walked in, closing the door behind me, breathing heavily, trying to catch my breath, as the fear got the best of me.
“Angel,” I heard Evelyn’s voice coming from behind me, I jumped up with fear, I didn’t see her there.
“Evelyn,” I say my whole body trembling with fear.
“Are you okay child?” she asks me with a raised brow, how do I tell her that all I want to do is hug her and hide behind her, I was terrified of Ryan, the way he went cold, the kiss that I didn’t want to happen, everything.
“I’m fine, Evelyn, I should just go to bed, it’s past ten,” I say with a small smile on my face, trying to act as if everything is fine.
“It’s just turned ten if you were looking at the clocks in Ryan’s place, they are all ten minutes ahead since he keeps being late to everything, we had to push them ten minutes ahead so he’d be on time for once,” she says and I nod, in any other time I’d find that funny, I’d laugh but not right now.
“Angel, come close,” she said when I only nodded and didn’t talk, when I stayed quiet looking like a scared cat, now I’m the one who looked green.
“Why?” I say from my place worried why she needs me to get closer, or what she wants from me.
“Angel, did he do something to you? Did he touch you? Did he say something?” Evelyn asked now she was standing right in front of me when I shook my head no, she knew that it wasn’t the truth, she pulled me toward her, hugged me tight and then I couldn’t help the tears.
“What did he say?” she says holding me tight, I couldn’t tell her anything, he didn’t say anything that scared me, it was more of a tone, he made me laugh before, and the kiss, that kiss terrified me as well.
“Nothing, Evelyn, I’m just tired,” I say, maybe that would be my best excuse for now, that I’m just tired.
“Don’t lie to me child, you’re not ready to spend time with the other vampires, especially not Ryan,” she says, and I nod, I agree with her, I better stay away from Ryan, I can’t stay near him, he scared me.
“Okay, I’ll stay away,” I say holding her with both hands, I didn’t want to let her go, she kept petting my back until I calmed down.
“Come on little girl, let’s go get you to bed,” she says walking me toward my room, she gives me my PJs and sends me to the bathroom, she stays near, not closing the door fully in case I need her.
“Evelyn, I’m done,” I say coming out of the bathroom, she took the style that Nala did this morning for me and brushed my hair, she gave me a kiss on the forehead and tucked me inside the bed.
“Good night child, sleep well,” she says, she was about to turn off my bedside light, but I sat up panicking.
“No please leave it on,” I beg her, I didn’t want to sleep in the dark, not tonight.
“This would disturb the other girls as well, I have a better option,” she says going to the other side of my bed, and turning a night light on for me, she then turned the side light off, but the room wasn’t dark anymore, there were two light sources, the one coming from my bedside, and another one from Katie’s side.
I tried to sleep, I wasn’t as tired as I was yesterday, I was awake, I couldn’t sleep, closing my eyes all I could see and think of was Ryan, the way he turned on me, I was also reliving all the things that Mia said to me today at the office, about how Logan said she’d get punished, even Ryan threatened her with punishment, she’s been there for just months, but they had everything set and ready, they were smarter than we knew, the vampires didn’t just take over the world a couple days ago, they took over the world and now they are showing us that they are in charge.
Some tears found their way to my cheeks, I wiped them away and turned around in the bed, I looked at my phone, it was midnight, and my phone was locked the only thing I could do was call or message, maybe I should poke Dylan, talk to him, try to get him to talk to me and tell Ryan off, but tell him off to what? I walked into his place willingly, I should just not go there anymore, I should go to work and come back home and avoid him, that’s all.
I finally managed to go to sleep around two am, I didn’t call anyone, that felt very pathetic of me to call him, asking for help, instead I went to sleep, I tried my best until I fell asleep, when my alarm started to ring, I whined and groaned, turning it off before falling back to sleep.
“Angel, Angel, wake up,” I felt someone shake me awake, but I groaned and whined, I didn’t want to, I hadn’t slept well.
“Girls, let her sleep,” another voice ordered and I was just happy to stay asleep, I only woke up later on my own, I woke up slowly, I was much more rested this time, I looked around the room and saw it was empty, I was the only one in here sleeping. I looked at my phone and saw the time was nine.
I got up from the bed, went toward the bathroom and did my business, when I was back, I yawned again and left my room still in my pj, I didn’t change yet, was I late for work? Or we didn’t have work yet? I wasn’t fully awake to know what I was supposed to do now, but I hoped Evelyn was here to tell me what to do.
Outside in the living room were Katie, and some other girls I don’t recognize, they are the ones that don’t work, they were all watching TV and having snacks, the joy of not having to work. Evelyn was sitting with them as well, she was the only one sitting straight, while the girls were all over the place, some on the ground, others lying down on the sofa.
“Evelyn,” I call her.
“Good morning child, have you rested?” she asks me and I nod.
“Yes, I’m fine thank you, should I go get ready for work?” I ask her.
“If you want to go, I can get someone to come get you, if not you’re welcome to hand out with us for the day,” she says with a smile.
“I’ll go to work, I guess, I’ll go get ready,” I say deciding to go to work, but I’m late.
“Aren’t I too late?” I ask standing near my bedroom door.
“I talked to Logan, he’s fine with you coming in late or not coming today,” she says.
“Evelyn, thank you,” I say happy that she’s helping me with everything, happy that she was here for me last night.
“You’re welcome child, I’m here to keep you all safe and happy,” she assured me, I went to my room and got ready, I picked a skirt today, I also noticed except for sweat pants and some shorts, we don’t have any pants.
“I’m done,” I say coming out of the room.
“Your ride is on its way, why don’t you sit down to eat until it’s here,” she suggests, I took a seat in the kitchen and started to eat the toast and jelly she had ready for me.
“Go downstairs Angel, someone is waiting for you,” she says.
“How would I know?” I ask confused.
“I’m not sure who they sent, but they are waiting for you,” she says, I only nod, and go out of the apartment, my only hope is that I don’t stumble upon Ryan again.
Lucky me, there wasn’t anyone with me in the elevator, I got down to the main floor and walked right out, the security didn’t say anything to me this time, I looked outside trying to find out who was waiting for me.
“Angel,” a policeman says, I looked at him with wide eyes, it’s the same guy from before, the one who stopped my car, but I don’t remember his name.
“Hi,” I say with a blush, I wasn’t doing anything wrong.
“I’m here to drive you to work,” he says with the same smile on his face, the confident smile, the nice smile, but I know that this smile could turn to a dark tone like Ryan did, so better be careful.
“Oh, thank you,” I say getting in his car, he made me sit in the back, this wasn’t a police cruise, it was an SUV, maybe his personal car?
“You’re welcome Angel, you work with Logan right?” he says with the same smile on his face.
“I do, you know him?” I ask him.
“You can say so, I’m doing him this favour and driving you aren’t I,” he says with a shrug, I smiled back at him, he took me to work and smiled at me.
“If you need me, the offer is still there, just call me,” he says.
“Uhh… sure,” I say although I lost his number.
“Here you go Angel,” he says handing me another card of his, and this time I could read his name again, Hunter.
“Thank you for the drive, bye,” I say leaving the car and going toward my work.
