Gilbert cleared his throat, bringing Olivia’s attention to him.
“Dad” she smiled, getting up from the chair to help him up.
“Oli dear, how are you doing?” He smiled.
“I’m fine dad. How’s your health?”
“I’d be fine dear.”
Olivia nodded, reaching for the black bag she came in with. She happened to see a store where they sold fruits and told Nicholas to take her there to buy them.
She took out the fruits from the bag, “I got you fruits, dad.” she said, turning on the faucet that was on the other side of the room, to wash the fruits.
“That’s thoughtful of you. Morgan wouldn’t even buy me fruits when coming.”
Olivia laughed, returning to her seat, as she started peeling an apple for him.
“Are your parents alive?” Gilbert suddenly asked. His eyes read Olivia’s expression.
Olivia paused, hesitating on what to say. If anyone was dead, it was her father. Even though her mom was still in a coma, her father was the dead one.
“No, my mom is alive.”
“I’m sorry about your father.” Gilbert said, his face holding a hint of sympathy.
You don’t have to be sorry for him. I wish he was dead already.
“It’s fine, dad. Besides, I have a new dad.” Olivia smiled, giving him another set of peeled apples.
“That’s true. How can I forget that?” He said laughing, while Olivia joined him.
Olivia was laughing, deep down, she felt guilty towards the old man. She actually agreed with Morgan to deceive him. She was sure he was going to hate her, once he found out about the deal between Morgan and her.
She had no other option, it was how things were meant to be.
Gilbert was urging Olivia to ask more questions about her mother, but so as not to be misunderstood he stopped himself.
“Morgan isn’t bullying you, is he?”
Olivia laughed again, “No dad, he isn’t.
Gilbert nodded, “It’s good to see, he isn’t. Don’t hesitate to let me know, once he tries to bully you, okay?”
Olivia smiled and nodded. She knew the old man was being worried for her and it warmed her heart. Even though Morgan was bullying her, she wouldn’t dare to him.
Gilbert seemed to hesitate for a while, before he began, “Morgan could be a jerk and a pain in the ass sometimes but trust me he’s a good child. His mom died in the process of giving birth to him, you know, no one can love you like your mom. So he grew up without her love and having knowledge that she died giving birth to him, he hated himself.”
“I can’t say how happy I am that he agreed to take up responsibility for the company. He totally tried disconnecting himself from the family because of his mom. I’m glad, he found someone he liked and that person is you, so promise me you won’t leave his side, no matter what.”
Olivia’s eyes were wet already, she couldn’t believe Morgan had such a sad story. He didn’t get to experience mother’s love and that justifies his cold and detached personality.
The old man was asking her to make him a promise not to leave Morgan. What about their contract? Can she do this?
The more she thought about it, the more her eyes teared up. She couldn’t say no to his face, she couldn’t tell him that it was just a contract that would end ten years later.
Olivia was left with no other option than to agree to his request. At least she would stay by Morgan’s side till ten years.
“I’m making you cry dear. I’m sorry.” Gilbert laughed, trying to lift the mood.
Olivia smiled, wiping away her tears.
The tension was back to normal, with Gilbert saying funny things that made Olivia laugh. It was almost evening, when she checked the time.
She hasn’t gotten a call from Morgan or Nicholas, did they perhaps forget she was at the hospital?
“Dad, I’d get going, before it gets late.” Olivia said, picking up her bag.
“Why did the time choose to run fast today? Don’t mind me dear.” Gilbert laughed.
“Has that kid contacted you?” He asked, referring to Morgan.
“Not yet, he might be busy at work.”
“Nonsense! What’s more important than his wife?”
“Dad, don’t get so worked out over Morgan. He’d call me when he gets a chance.” Olivia smiled, coaxing the angry old man.
Gilbert seemed to listen to her and nodded, “Okay dear, take care. Call me when you get home.”
Olivia nodded and left the ward.
Outside the ward, a message popped into her phone. She brought her face down to the phone, going through the message, when she bumped into someone.
“Sorry, I’m so sorry” Olivia bawled, bending down to pick up her phone.
“Have you no eyes?”
Olivia looked up to see a familiar yet unfamiliar face standing close to her. His face was laced with anger, which quickly disappeared when he saw her face.
“Sister in law?” He smiled.
“I’m so sorry, I didn’t know it was you. You came to visit dad?” he asked. His voice suddenly softened.
Olivia nodded, slowly recalling where she saw his face.
“I’d be hurt, if you don’t recognize me. I’m Xavier, Morgan’s brother, we didn’t get the chance to introduce ourselves last time.”
Now Olivia remembered him.
Being Handsome seems to be in their genes.
Xavier was handsome, with a tall and imposing figure. His shaved dark hair was styled to the back, exposing his extremely gorgeous and flawless face.
He was handsome and handsome.
“Ohh, you?” Olivia smiled apologetically.
“You’re going already?” he asked, turning his head around, as if looking for something.
“I don’t see Morgan’s car, are you using a cab?”
“No, I was just going to call him.” She said, taking out her phone.
“It’s no use. I think he’s in an important board meeting and won’t take your calls. I’m heading home already, I’d just drive you back.” he offered.
“Thank you, but were you not going to visit dad? I’d just grab a cab, no need to stress you.” Olivia smiled, politely declining his offer.
“Oh common sister-in -law, let me drive you home. He’s always my dad, and I’d come visit him anything, I’m sure he won’t be happy I left you to get a cab, when I can drive you home.”
Xavier was a good talker and very persuasive. Olivia had no other option than to agree to his offer, besides he was Morgan’s brother.
“Alright” Olivia nodded, following him out.
Xavier smiled inwardly, a proud look etched on his face. He was at least glad that Morgan hadn’t told Olivia evil about him.
If not, how was he going to play such a game?
