Rachael strolled clumsily along the roadside even after the doctor warned her to stay for three days straight. She wanted to heed his advice but could she stay in a place where her heartbreaker was spending his money for her without the thought of visiting her? The fool had to send his bed warmer.
She winced at the sharp pain in her ankles and stopped walking the moment she saw the blood stain on the bandages. She had exerted herself and a good night’s rest was greatly required to avoid the worst occurrence that could happen if she decided to walk more.
She strolled cautiously into a five-star hotel to book a room for the night was she saw a man holding a woman tightly against her will at the hotel receiving area. She wanted to ignore them, but the disturbing feeling surging in her heart compelled her to follow them. The moment the man in question made a swift turn for the stairs, Rachael caught a glimpse of the woman’s face.
“Isn’t that Isabelle? What is she doing here with another man?” She mumbled lost in thoughts. She pondered on where she had met the strange man. Suddenly it clicked, it was Max, Liam’s cousin. One of the pawns Damien had exploited without their knowledge. From her own findings, Max wasn’t a man to be trusted but also, but Isabelle wasn’t resisting. But regardless of that, she needed to stop them or it would thwart her plans to destroy Damien. A separation between Isabelle and Liam wasn’t the best solution.
“Which room did those couples book?” She probed the lady clerk as she walked over to her table.”tell me”
The lady clerk’s lips morphed into a bright smile as her eyes went to the tip that Rachael had placed right on her table. She quickly grabbed as his gaze searched around for any lurkers around before reverting her gaze to Rachael. “Room 48B, the last room on the second floor”
“Thanks, can I get a room next to theirs?” She enquired further with an impatient tone in her voice.
“Of course mine, right away” the lady clerk assured with the same bright smile on her face. Within a minute, the lady had already registered the room in Rachael’s name and enthusiastically handed over the keys” Enjoy your stay ma’am”
Rachael waved her hand dismissively as she hurriedly walked through the direction of the people she wanted to follow.
“I hope I’m not too late” she muttered with a restless tone as she stood in front of the room, she had to do something so she knocked on the door and swiftly ran into her room waiting for someone to open up.
“Who’s there?” Max yelled out apprehensively as his gaze lurked around the corridor for any glimpse of the intruder. When he saw no one, he hesitantly close the door behind him.
Rachael walked back and forth in her room, racking her brain tirelessly for a solution when instantly, an idea popped up in her head. She walked straight to the bathroom and scanned around until her gaze settled on the water heater.
“Great! It’s shared” she exclaimed in excitement as she walked briskly towards it. Examining it for a while, she pulled out one of the connections to avoid disrupting the water supply to the whole room in the hotel, just a small section.
She heard the door of the next room click open and she hurriedly ran to her room door to confirm it was Max. He must’ve noticed the disruption in the flow of water and had gone down to complain. She stealthily walked into his room and saw a silhouette lying unconsciously on the bed.
“Isabelle…” She called out with a slight slap on the cheek while checking her burning temperature. She pouted in surprise at the sudden realization that Isabelle was drugged.
“Where am I?” Isabelle responded to the hit, half-conscious but weak.
“Phew…” Rachael breathed in relief before answering her question. “I need to get you out of here first, then we could talk later”
“Your voice sounds familiar, have we met before?” The semi-conscious Isabelle queried as she almost rolled over causing Rachael to hold her in place.
“Now is not the time for this, “Rachael said with a tone hinting at a slight irritation. “We need to leave before Max gets back”
The name Rachael mentioned was a wake-up call to Isabelle as her eyes widened in realization. She groggily stood up to lean on Rachael’s shoulder who was also finding it difficult to walk with her injured leg. She instantly thought of a solution.
“Let’s go to my room” she suggested as she dragged Isabelle along with her, trying hard to ignore the discomfort her body was feeling. Rachael pulled Isabelle with much effort, to her room and rapidly locked the door to avoid any interruption.
She ran straight into the bathroom to fix the water heater to avoid intrusion. She had a little bit of skills to be able to fix it. One of the reasons why Damien had held on to her. The words smart and decisive are the best words to qualify her personality.
The footsteps of probably, two men got closer and walked into the next room.
“The water heater is perfectly fine,” one of the men said with a displeased tone.”you should clarify before making such a false alarm”
“I apologize for the inconvenience, “Max said with a confused expression then he glanced at the bedside.
“Isabelle” he frantically called out as he searched every nook and cranny of the room but couldn’t find her.
Meanwhile, Rachael, with a strong will and determination, sneaked Isabelle out of the room while Max kept searching for her in the room. It was difficult, Max had almost caught them when he came down to the first floor to question the lady clerk but thankfully, Rachael had already bribed her to keep her lips sealed as they hid beneath the lady’s table.
“Huh. I haven’t seen her since you took her in”the lady clerk replied feigning ignorance while Rachael was finding it hard to keep Isabelle from moaning loudly.
“Alright then. I’ll just go back upstairs, thank you”Max replied distantly to the lady as his eyes scanned the whole area. He couldn’t shake up the disturbing feeling that something was amiss. The moment he walked away, Rachael sighed in relief as she stared at the lady with grateful eyes.
“Thank you very much, you just saved our lives” Rachael expressed her gratitude.
“It’s alright” the lady replied.”I sensed that something was wrong when I first saw them but the hotel policy doesn’t permit me to meddle in the affairs of our clients”
“I understand.. we’ll leave now” Rachael and Isabelle walked out of the hotel just in time as the cab they had ordered parked in front of them.
Hmmmmm…..
The moans that kept escaping from Isabelle’s lips irritated Rachael and stunned the driver.
“Is she alright?” the driver asked as he stared through the rearview mirror which infuriated Rachael further.
“Eyes on the road, mister” she uttered rudely as she thought of the next thing to do. She couldn’t send Isabelle home in her situation to avoid misunderstanding. She had to act fast before it got completely dark. She found it absolutely intriguing, that she had saved the one woman who was once her enemy, or rather, Damien’s enemy.
