Liam stumped out of the doctor’s office with the report in his hands. He took long strides towards his car, almost running and obliviously to the person running after him. He zoomed off at a high speed out of the building. The red lights and the road officials after him were the least of his concerns. His secretary was never the type to call for matters which she could handle. The company’s problem must be dire for her to sound like that. The problems on his neck had made him forget Isabelle completely. The Callahan company came into view as he sped into the building amidst the workers running helter-skelter to find a place to hide from the car that was almost out of control.
Liam scurried into the building ignoring the greetings coming from the workers. The whole company was in chaos as they were all aware of the huge devastating problem at hand.
“Mr. Callahan…” Sarah called out as the elevator opened to her boss who was about to make his way in. She was informed about his arrival and rushed down to meet him.
“Tell me, Sarah. What’s the problem?” Liam asked with a cold and chilly voice. Even without knowing the problem, he already had a bad premonition about the matter.
“Sir, it’s the board of directors” Sarah stated with a disturbing look on her face “Someone started a fire, they suddenly want a change of the CEO. I don’t know why but it looks like they had already connived with each other”
“Who is the mastermind?” Liam berated with a darkened and grim expression that sent cold shivers down Sarah’s spine. She wasn’t used to this side of him. She could tell that all hell was about to let loose. Whoever started this had stepped on the lion’s tail.
“Sir, I have no idea who the mastermind is. No one does except the directors, I’m sure they know who is behind all of this” Sarah replied nervously, marveling at her incompetence and dreading what her boss’s response would be.
“Where is Adrian?” Liam enquired, with no sign of what he was thinking about.
“He’s in the tech room” Sarah replied with a confused expression. “Should I send for him?”
“Yes… Use the telecom. I still need you by my side” he responded with a cold voice to Sarah who hurriedly left to make the call.
If anyone could read his mind and feel his heart, they would be greatly stunned at how he managed to keep himself in check. Fear was the right word to describe his inner feelings. Fear of losing all that he had worked for just like his father. He had his suspicions but he needed to secure his position first, before fishing the traitors out.
“Mr. Callahan… Adrian is on his way” Sarah announced as she walked into the office at a hurried pace. “He claims to be working on a cryptic message but he would be down in a moment”
“It’s alright” Liam replied, his voice barely above a whisper. “How are the media and the company stocks?”
“Well…. The media hasn’t gotten any information yet but it won’t be long before they do” Sarah replied hesitantly. “As for the company stocks, it has dropped below the standard rate. Investors are threatening to withdraw their stocks if the matter is not resolved as soon as possible”
“Those greedy bastards” Liam cursed which was a rare occurrence, shocking Sarah whose lips were wide open.”send a memorandum to all directors. We are having a meeting in the next five minutes”
“Noted, sir” Sarah whose fingers were typing hurriedly on the laptop replied.
Then, Liam remembered something and asked” Where’s Max?”
“Huh…. I saw him leave a few minutes before the problem had escalated” Sarah responded as she tried to remember when last she saw him. “He clearly stated that he was on his way to see someone… I don’t think he has anything to do with this, does he?”
“Don’t tell me you’re smitten by his charm already” Liam eyes her suspiciously.”I won’t tolerate any form of betrayal and lies. Keep yourself in check” he warned with a stern expression to clarify his severity.
“I would never betray you Mr. Callahan” Sarah refuted in a serious tone. “I just thought that since he wasn’t in the company when the matter arose then he shouldn’t be involved”
Then, Sarah received a voice message and turned to face Liam” Sir, the board meeting has been set. Everyone is waiting for you right now” she reported.
“Then, we should leave now,” Liam said as he picked up the coat spread on his chair and walked out, his heavy footsteps echoing around the hall with Sarah walking at a fast pace to keep up with him.
The tension in the room was high. Even the room temperature was at its lowest. Those who wore thick clothes could still feel the chilly atmosphere, talkless of those putting on light clothing. They all stood up in unison to grace the entrance of their CEO, some with great apprehension, others with evil smirk on their faces. Their gazes all trailed their boss’s footsteps as he made his way to the biggest seat in the room. The wave of his hand was all they needed to take their seat.
Liam Callahan’s piercing gaze searched the whole room, boring deep into the faces of every individual present in the room like a lioness hunting for prey or the scent of an enemy lurking around. The whole directors were completely pressurized by his heavy gaze on them, that they couldn’t dare to look up. The majority of them were starting to rethink their actions. Why did they go against his authority in the first place?..
A cold, scary smirk morphed on Liam’s face as he watched in satisfaction, the terrifying effect he had on their mental well-being. He was going to make them regret going against him in his absence. They were all just a bunch of cowardly ingrates who took advantage of everything that smelt like an opportunity to them.
“Let the meeting begin. Sarah distribute the agreement I gave to you, let them go through it” Liam ordered with an expectant gaze and eagerly waited to see the horror expression on their faces.
