“You’re sitting with me today?”. Michelle asked, pouting as she folded her hands against her chest.
“Yes, you don’t want me to sit with you?”. I responded absentminded, my eyes on the lady on our seat.
It’s almost time for class and the triplets ain’t here yet, I wonder what they will say about the lady. I mean she’s quite gorgeous, if only I wasn’t getting that tiny pinch of needle on my heart.
As I gazed at the lady, she suddenly turned around and stared back at me, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. I quickly looked away, feeling a flush rise to my cheeks.
“Ok, that was embarrassing”. I murmured.
“I think she’s the new girl, she’s totally a baddy. If I were a boy, I would totally bang her”. Michelle said dreamily, causing me to roll my eyes.
“Doesn’t matter, there’s something called bisexual so you can still “bang” her.” I responded.
“Oh please, by the way. Have you seen the group chat? Oh my goodness, the whole school is talking about how the triplets beat Jake up. I wonder who video it”.
Yeah, no wonder everyone was staring at me weirdly.
“I don’t have a phone, remember?”. I said. To be honest, I feel quite sorry for him, he’s missing class and he is in the hospital because of me.
Michelle’s eyes widened in surprise, “Oh right, you’re still phone-less! How do you even survive?” She teased, playfully nudging me with her elbow. I chuckled.
“But anyway, back to the new girl… I’m dying to know more about her. Do you think she’s single?” I shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant despite my lingering gaze in her direction.
“Girl, you literally have a boyfriend. How does he even cope with you?”.
“Hm, such a joy killer”. She scoffed.
“And…”. Michelle continued with her non stop ranting
Oh goddess, why am I sitting here today? My ears are literally bleeding.
“And yes, why is she sitting on your seat with the triplets?”. She suddenly asked.
Well, I’m literally banned from sitting with them now so anyone can sit with them. And yes, it bothers me a lot.
“I don’t know”. I lied.
“So you’re fine with anyone sitting with your triplets?”.
“My triplet? You’re saying it like I’m their mother. Anyone can sit with them”. I scoffed, trying to focus on the book in front of me.
Michelle chuckled, “Oh, Lyra, you’re so cute when you’re trying to be cool. But I know you’re secretly bothered that she’s sitting with them.”
I felt my face flush again, and I tried to maintain my nonchalant facade. “I’m just saying, anyone can sit with them, it’s not a big deal.”
Michelle raised an eyebrow, “Sure, keep telling yourself that. But I know you’re curious about her, and you’re trying to play it cool.” I sighed,
“Michelle, can we please just focus on class? It’s about to begin”
But she just winked at me, “Oh, this is going to be fun. Oh the triplets are here”. She giggled excitedly, I just kept my head low.
Don’t look. Don’t look. Don’t look.
“Please have your seat”. I heard the teacher’s voice. I could feel the triplets’ eyes on me.
“Silas looks really mad”. Michelle whispers.
“Yeah, he’s the one with the bad temper. But let’s focus on class, shall we?”. I asked, forcing a smile.
Michelle continued to whisper comments and giggles, and I tried to tune her out, focusing on the lesson. But my eyes kept drifting towards the new girl, who was chatting with the triplets and seemed to be enjoying herself. I couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy.
“You can just talk without being so touchy with them”. I scoffed angrily.
“Is that jealousy I smell?”. Michelle asked, sniffing the air around me.
I rolled my eyes, trying to play it cool. “No, Michelle. I’m not”.
Michelle just raised an eyebrow, “Save it, Lyra. I know you’re jealous. You’re not used to sharing the triplets’ attention with someone new.” I felt my face flush again.
“It’s not what you think but I’m just saying, it’s not necessary to be so physical with them. Can’t she just talk to them like a normal person?”.
“Sounds like someone’s feeling a little left out.” I tried to ignore her teasing, but my eyes kept drifting towards them. Silas wasn’t talking much with her but Ezra and zayn seemed very relaxed.
“You know you might want to stop staring, you are starting to look like a…,”.
“Miss Flynn, Miss Martin, care to share what you both are busy discussing while the class is ongoing?”. The teacher suddenly called us out.
Oh no, now the whole class is gonna stare at us.
“We are sorry sir”. I mumbled, using a hand to gaurd my face.
“This will be your last warning”. He responded before continuing with his teaching.
“Oh no, the triplets are staring”. Michelle said, causing me to look up.
As I met the triplets’ gaze, I felt a shiver run down my spine. Silas’s eyes were narrowed, his jaw clenched, and Ezra and Zayn’s smirks had turned into scowls.
And the new girl was still watching me, her expression unreadable, but her eyes seemed to be boring into my soul. I quickly looked away, my heart racing, and tried to focus on the lesson.
“That would be the end of the class, see you guys tomorrow”. Our teacher said as soon as the bell rang.
I turned my gaze towards the triplets, they were trying to meet my eyes as the students walked by, making it a little difficult for them to see me.
“You wanna talk to them?”. Michelle asked, packing her books.
“Not really”. I murmured, anger slowly flowing through me, watching the new girl lock hands with Ezra who clearly wasn’t even paying any attention to her.
“Let’s go”. I said, getting up from my seat, taking the other door behind me.
As I hurried out of the classroom, I could feel the triplets’ gaze following me, their eyes burning with an intensity that made my skin crawl. I quickened my pace, letting out a deep breath as I reached my locker.
“There’s no harm in being jealous, Lyra”. Michelle frowned, unlocking her locker as she put her things in.
“I’m telling you, I’m not interested,” I said bluntly, my voice firm and resolute. “Their coming of age ceremony is in eight days, and they’ll likely find their mate then. Why would I be jealous of something that’s not even mine to begin with?”
Michelle opened her mouth to respond, but Silas cut her off, his deep voice commanding attention. “Lyra,” he started. Ezra chimed in, his lean frame lounging against the locker as he fixed me with an intense stare. “Why did you-”
But before Ezra could complete his question, a sweet, melodious voice interrupted, echoing through the hallway like a gentle breeze.
“Hi guys!”. The new girl greeted cheerfully, her bright smile illuminating the space as she extended a hand in greeting. “You must be Lyra. I’m Maya, nice to meet you!”
