Someone help him ! He works under Ryland ! Why are you just standing there ? I cried out to the shocked guards surrounding us.
They all remained silent.
I found Hana standing off to the side, watching it all with her face masked.
Please, you have to help him. I spoke to her, lowering my voice and giving her a pleading look. He’s your brother. He loves you Hana. I added as I saw her slowly start to crack.
She gave me a scowl suddenly. Don’t call me that. She snapped in an icy tone, before turning around and starting to walk away.
Wait ! You can’t just let him just bleed to death ! I cried out to her as I glanced down at Nathan. His eyes were currently squeezed shut in pain. It really hurt me to see him suffer like this, and it pained me even more knowing I couldn’t do anything to help him.
I placed my hand gently on his cheek, causing his eyes to open. He tried to give me a small smile to comfort me, but it came out looking like a grimace.
You’re gonna be alright. I promised him, trying to keep my voice from cracking.
I looked up and was surprised when I saw Hana standing over us, looking down at Nathan. I caught a concerned expression just as she placed her cold mask over her face again.
Bring them both down to the basement and lock ’em up. And get a first-aid kit for his leg. Her voice came out emotionless as she turned and left.
I let out a sigh of relief. So she wasn’t that far gone to not care about her own brother…
The guards started to move towards us but before they could touch us, I quickly wrapped Nathan’s arm around my shoulder and stood up, slightly wobbling at first, then using all my strength to keep us both up.
I looked up to see a dark haired guard staring at me. When he caught my gaze, he grunted, before turning and leading the way out.
Move your ass. A gruff voice came out from behind, causing me to start making my way back into the dark building.
Skylar. Nathan’s quiet voice called out to me.
I turned to see him looking down at me intensely. What’s wrong ? My brows furrowed in concern. Does it hurt really bad ? Don’t worry, we’ll fix it up soon. Just hang in there. I whispered to him as we walked down a poorly lit hall.
I heard him let out a small laugh, surprising me. As long as you’re by my side, I’m perfectly fine. He said, shooting me a beautiful smile.
I shook my head at him. You’re really crazy. I told him.
He just shook his head, before adding. And I’m sorry for trying to push you away. This is the last thing I’d want, but you give me strength Sky. Thank you for sticking with me.
Always. Don’t forget that. I replied, feeling tears come to my eyes.
I love you. Nathan said, before wincing in pain as we started stepping down the staircase.
I shot him a concerned look but he waved it off.
I love you too. I said back.
Before he could reply, a gruff voice cut us off from behind. Please save the corny lines for later before we kill you.
My eyes widened in panic as I looked up at Nathan who was glaring straight ahead.
His gaze caught mine and he shook his head, trying to reassure me that he was just kidding.
The rest of the walk to wherever we were going was spent in silence.
Finally we reached a door, located in a dark, cold basement. Without warning, the guard who had been leading us ripped open the door and shoved us inside. I quickly caught my balance and went to steady Nathan who winced in pain as he put his weight on his bad leg.
Glaring at the guard who was at the door, I asked The first-aid kit ?
The buff man just grunted at me, before stepping away so a different guard came into view.
The new guard stepped in and chucked a first-aid kit at us, nearly getting a head-shot on me had I not ducked.
Before I could yell at the dude, the door slammed shut, leaving us in silence. This room was thankfully lit and wasn’t dark like the rest of this building. It was a small, windowless square room with white walls surrounding us. The ground was surprisingly carpeted.
Spotting a small, single bed in the corner, I started walking Nathan over there, picking up the first-aid kit on the way.
Here, I can do it. Nathan said as he took a seat, reaching for the kit.
No, I got it. You rest. I ordered, pushing him back gently so he was leaning against the upright pillow.
Yes ma’am. Nathan said in an amused tone, shooting me a wink.
I rolled my eyes. He had just been shot and yet he still had the ability to act like this.
I took a seat at the edge of the bed, facing his injured leg. Pulling open the kit, I found a pair of tweezers. Pulling them out, I turned to face Nathan.
I’m supposed to pull out the bullet first right ? I asked him, slightly unsure. My only experience in first-aid care was from movies.
Nathan nodded. Skylar, you don’t have to do it. Here just let me. Nathan spoke up, rising up to reach for my tweezers, before wincing in pain as his leg shifted.
Nathan, this is no time to be Batman. Just let me treat you because this time, you’re the damsel in distress and I’m the amazing hero. I scolded him, before moving closer to his leg and gently placing my hand on his calf right above his wound.
But- Nathan started to protest, but I shot him a look that said I wasn’t in the mood to argue so he reluctantly shut up.
Fine. Have fun digging around inside my bloody leg looking for a bullet. Nathan rolled his eyes.
I will. I stated, before moving the tweezers near the open wound.
That’s messed up. Nathan commented with disgust.
I decided to ignore him.
No really, what kind of person enjoys digging around inside someone’s body ? Nathan added.
I clenched my teeth.
