Danny ! Cody cried out as he rushed over closer to the edge.
Cody ? Danny spoke in surprise and relief as his eyes lit up.
Come on guys, you can all rejoice once we get the hell out of here ! Tyler yelled at us again, looking around nervously.
Nathan nodded in agreement, before motioning for Danny to climb up the rope.
He did as told and soon enough, Cody was pulling him out the rest of the way before hugging his younger brother. I almost cried at the look on their faces. I also didn’t miss the small tear trailing down Cody’s cheek.
Next, Nathan guided Hana up the rope. We all watched as she effortlessly pulled herself ten feet up by the rope and stepped out in a swift motion.
Hana. Max breathed out, staring at his sister in awe, before rushing to her and pulling her in a hug. We all silently watched as the thirteen year old stood there motionless and expressionless. It kind of scared me.
I averted my gaze to Nathan just as he lifted himself out of the hole and stepped out.
So what now captain ? I went over to him and asked as he pulled the rope out of the gaping hole.
Captain ? I like that. Nathan shot me a cheesy grin which I rolled my eyes to.
I mean how are we getting out ? I asked him with a raised brow.
Lucky for you, I planned ahead and called an old friend for some help. They should be here soon. Nathan said with a secretive look.
Before I could ask him who, the sound of a helicopter above caused us all to freeze and look up.
Holy cow… Landon and Max muttered in awe at the same time.
I gasped as the chopper came near and the pilot’s face came into view. I would remember those sharp, fox like features anywhere. She had left a lasting impression on me anyways.
But Nathan, isn’t that- I started to say in a panic.
The girl who tried to shoot us the day we went out and got a tree ? Nathan finished for me with a smug look. Well I told you she was just a rival gang leader. When I told her that I wasn’t a part of it anymore and wanted to bring Ryland down, she agreed to help. Nathan said with a small grin.
But she held you at gunpoint… I trailed off pathetically. I just didn’t see how he could easily forgive someone who had almost popped his head off just like that and gain their trust.
Nathan chuckled at me. That’s just business sweetheart, nothing personal. He said, just as the chopper dropped down a rope ladder, hovering above us.
Everyone get on quickly ! The cops will be here in no time ! Nathan ordered everyone.
Nathan made sure to get everyone on before him.
The chopper was almost full, just Hana, Nathan, and I left on the ground.
Hana. Nathan said simply, gesturing for his little sister to climb the ladder first.
Nathan. She spat back, her voice coming out surprisingly cold and bitter. I stared at her in surprise, turning to see Nathan with the same expression on.
Before any of us could say anything, the small blonde girl suddenly lashed out at me with her foot. Luckily, I managed to step back and out of the way just as her foot sliced the air in front of me, mere inches away from my nose.
Hana ! Nathan yelled, looking unsure whether to engage or not.
He suddenly sprang into action when he saw her bring her fist up, about to punch me.
I flinched as her fist came closer but opened my eyes to see Nathan holding her arms down behind her.
What the hell was that !? He spat out angrily to his sister, roughly pushing her towards the ladder now.
I saw an evil glint in her eye and got an idea of what she was about to do.
Nathan ! I cried out, just as she brought her head back forcefully. Luckily, my cry to him had caused him to turn his head in my direction, so his nose didn’t take the hit.
Nathan’s hold on her slightly loosened, and before we knew it, Hana had escaped Nathan’s grasp and was heading for the door.
Nathan. I said in panic, motioning at her attempts to get back in the building.
Get her. He ordered, a hot fire burning in his eyes. I knew not to argue with that, so I started sprinting after her.
I was just a few feet away when she ripped open the door and started yelling out.
Just as I reached her and the door, about five guards came running out. With guns.
I froze in my tracks and didn’t realize they were dragging me inside the building until I felt something jab my back, causing me to stumble forward. I twisted my neck to see a guard with a gun poking into my back behind me.
I desperately looked around for Nathan and my heart sped up as I saw him currently wrestling some guy, trying to get away. He suddenly knocked out one of the guards, leaving only two.
He suddenly turned up to the helicopter that was still above us. Go ! Get out of here ! He yelled up at the fox-like girl that had held him at gunpoint once. I realized he was trying to save the rest, not wanting them to get caught.
I watched the chopper rise up and retreat, but couldn’t see anyone inside because of the closed doors and the dark tinted windows.
I turned back to Nathan desperately and my breathing hitched when I saw a guard raise his gun to Nathan as he was busy trying to beat up the other guard.
Before I could open my mouth to scream, a loud bang caused everything to slow down. I watched in horror as Nathan went down slowly, looking down at his wound in shock. My stomach dropped. No.
Glancing at the distracted guard behind me, I escaped from his hold and burst into sprint to where Nathan was on the ground.
Nathan ! I cried, now noticing the tears coming down my face.
I dropped to his side and took in his leg. There was a stain of blood slowly growing and soaking the spot where he got shot on his dark pants. I sucked in a breath. Immediately I moved closer and brought his torso up so he was sitting up now, leaning against my legs.
It’s just a graze princess. Don’t worry about me. Nathan said, trying to sound calm, but his voice came out pained. Get out of here while you can. He added, looking up at the helicopter which was still lingering around.
I looked up from his wound as he clenched his teeth in pain. Are you stupid ? I am not leaving you you idiot ! We need to get you help ! I yelled at him, now looking around me at the four guards surrounding us with their guns ready. I looked up at the helicopter and made eye contact with the foxy girl. I motioned for her to leave, and we shared a long look. She gave me a small nod then, before flying away. How she managed to do that without the guys yelling at her to go back was an impressive mystery to me.
