Chapter 36. I Can’t Do That

Book:Alexa The Dark Witch Published:2024-8-20

Inside the library,
“No, Aiden. I can’t do what you’re asking. It is too risky.”
That beautiful girl refused honestly, and her tone was deep and soft to avoid offending the other person. The silver-haired man frowned, not understanding the opposite sex’s way of thinking. However, Aiden did not want to give up, so he told his friend, “Why, Alexa? If you never try to summon that strange woman, then we can know what she wanted. She made me very curious.”
“What are you curious about besides her remark about you being a part of her people and I was a witch?” Alexa still did not understand Aiden’s strange behaviour in her eyes, but she chose to ask, as she still wanted to get more information from the young man.
“No, Alexa. That strange woman’s words contain a deep secret. I have to find out. Would you like to help me with that?”
The young woman visibly shook her head as her inner doubts forced her to do so. Meanwhile, the introverted boy was still looking at Alexa strangely but had not said anything else, as if he was waiting for her reaction. “Aiden, I thought it was not a good idea. If I do something like that, is there any guarantee that everything will be okay? Just the thought of meeting that strange woman makes me cringe.”
“So should we just give up? Before we leave this place, I want to know about the strange woman, and I need your help. Maybe with your help, we can find out something or even get appropriate information.”
That young lady was silent. To be honest, I did not have any ideas about Aiden’s question. There was no way I would agree to my new friend’s crazy idea because it could be self-defeating. What kind of answer should I give him, huh? I am confused, Alexa thought, who was still silent.
“Alexa?” Aiden called out to the hazel-eyed girl.
“Do you think we will stay in this orphanage forever?” asked the slim young man with a serious look.
As soon as possible, Sir Elmer Louis Writh’s granddaughter shook her head as there was confusion in her heart. “I do not know, Aiden. This place is very, yeah, if I am being honest, it is not the right place for me. I do not have many friends because most people here are afraid of me, but I have no idea what will be happening in the future,” Alexa replied honestly.
“So, what is your plan if you and I are ….?” Aiden seemed to stop what he was saying deliberately, then glanced around as if looking for someone there. Alexa did the same, as she was confused by what the opposite sex was doing.
“What was wrong?” This time, it was the chosen one’s turn to ask the opposite sex… The young man shook his head, then returned his attention to the other person, who was still astonished, but curiosity had dominated inside the virgin. Alexa did not see anyone but the two of them, so she frowned, not understanding the attitude of her new friend, who seemed very strange in her eyes.
“I feel like that strange woman I was telling you about is not an ordinary human. Everything that happened to us may have something to do with our nation’s history.” Aiden answered Alexa’s question and explained what he suspected. The only daughter of the couple, Tristian Varden Writh and Lavena Isolda Keira, tried to understand everything he said, and Alexa agreed with the grey-eyed boy’s first sentence.
The atmosphere inside the library was still quiet, and there was not even a sign of the presence of other people, including the visitors’ voices. The sharp-nosed girl exhaled heavily as if she had been carrying a heavy burden. Aiden and Alexa were both silent and no one had taken the initiative to start the conversation again.
To be honest, just being in an orphanage makes me sad. Why did I do wrong until my parents abandoned me? If only they didn’t throw me here, then my life would be better and happier, Alexa thought, sadly. The longing for her biological parents came back, but that young lady had to suppress those feelings and act like everything was fine.
“I can’t speculate on that, Aiden. It might be true what you say, but as long as there is no evidence or witnesses, then we do not know what the truth is.”
“There was a reason why I said that, Alexa. But I have to read this book until it is finished to get more clues.” The young man was still trying to find more evidence and did not want to just stick to his prejudices. Alexa could only nod, because she felt that what Aiden said was indeed good and applicable at this time.
“I agree, Aiden. If you find anything or anything interesting in that book, do not forget to tell me. We can discuss more than that. My suggestion is that we do not stay here too long because this place is not suitable, especially if you find The Top Secret Book.” Alexa tried to remain calm, though inwardly, a strange feeling began to arise, which the virgin was having trouble understanding.
“Okay. I will do that. Oh, yeah, do you read here every day, Alexa?” Aiden asked again, but the topic of conversation was completely different.
The owner of the name nodded because that was what he did. The young man fell silent again as if he was thinking about something, while the other person did not know what to do. Silence prevailed between them, as there had been no new conversation between them, so the awkwardness was present without being prevented.
“Come on, let’s go, Alexa! I will find a safe place so that no one will get suspicious.” The one-hundred-and-seventy-five-centimetre-tall young man got up from his seat and tucked the book into his shirt. That virgin nodded again, as she did not feel at home there, even though they were no longer experiencing the strange events.
When the two teenagers were about to walk, a question suddenly popped into Alexa’s mind, so she unhesitatingly asked the opposite sex, “If you do not mind telling me, where are you going, Aiden? Be careful because that book is no ordinary book.”
“I am going to try to sneak somewhere, definitely not in here. I have found a safe place.” The young man replied casually. However, such an answer did not satisfy Alexa’s curiosity, as she did not know exactly where the area Aiden had described was. The beautiful girl looked unsatisfied but was reluctant to ask further questions.
“Okay. Just be careful.” That was all Alexa could say.
“I will. Thank you, Alexa.” The young man started walking, and the quiet girl followed him. The library was still the same as when they entered. The silence was palpable, which confused Alexa, as such moments were rare.
What is wrong with this place? Why isn’t there anyone else besides the two of us? Usually, there are other people, including Madame Oislon. Why do I feel like something is missing now? Ah, I almost forgot that I have to do homework! I will do it in my room rather than in the library. I do not know why I want to leave this area as soon as possible. Alexa thought silently.
The strange woman who was Alexa and Aiden had been talking about reappeared. She hovered and followed the virgin teenage girl as if unwilling to let go of her target. Just as the pair were about to pass through the front area, but they were not even twenty meters away from the exit, five teenage girls appeared from outside. They had seen Alexa and Aiden’s closeness, so envy arose in their hearts, and they wanted to hurt the Messenger of Goddess Magia.
“Hey, did you see that? There is a witch,” said the blonde-haired girl.
The other nodded as she tiptoed towards the chosen one. “Yeah, I did see it. Why is she still hanging out with Aiden? Does he still not believe that she is not human like us?”
“Then we should warn her again. I do not want Aiden to make the wrong choice of friends.”
“That is a great idea! Come on, let’s go!” Without further ado, the two girls walked towards Alexa, and they hated to see that the young lady already had a friend. However, their intentions seemed to be recognized by the woman who had always protected the beautiful girl who had been thrown into the orphanage as a baby. She raised her left hand, so that from the other direction, a woman appeared who was about to head to the front, where she usually stood guard.
The five teenagers had arrived before Alexa and Aiden, so they blocked the chestnut-brown-haired virgin’s path. “Hey, Witch! Why are you here? Who let you come to the library with Aiden?”
The librarian was disturbed by the loud voice. “Why are they blocking Alexa? What do they want?” she muttered, fretting.
A woman with curly hair in a neat bun began to get a bad feeling, so without hesitation, she rushed to Alexa and Aiden, who the two teenage girls were still harassing. Meanwhile, the only daughter of the couple, Tristian Varden Writh and Lavena Isolda Keira was surprised, but she tried to look strong.
“What do you want, Odessa? Can’t we come here?” Aiden defended Alexa while the witch remained silent and confused by the presence of her rival, who always disturbed her peace.
“Why are you defending that witch, Aiden? Don’t you know that she is the bearer of-”
Before the same woman could finish her sentence, someone interrupted her. “What are you doing here? Are you deliberately trying to bully Alexa again?!”
The seven teenagers immediately focused their attention towards the source of the voice, and the girl who had been mocking Alexa turned very pale, knowing who dared to scold her. “Ma… Madame-”
