Harper had been beating herself up after showing up to Cade’s house drunk and potentially embarrassing herself. When Cael had come to pick her up, he had promised that they would be in touch and even hinted a bit that they might become family in the near future.
Cael might have been supportive of her plans to land Cade as her husband but seeing the news about Cade and Ophelia’s wedding it was obvious that Cael did not have the power to do anything as he promised her.
She was going to swallow her shame and contact him, she had to swallow her shame to leave Starlit Haven to be here and now she believed that it would not be too much for her to reach out to Cael and ask him of his plans. She had thought she was having help from within the family but it turns out she was on her own now.
“Hello, Mr. Cael?”
“Mr Cael Vale’s office how can I help you?” an unfamiliar voice rang over the phone.
“Is this not his personal line?” she asked.
The man at the other end of the line took a deep breath to steady himself. “This is his office line” the man lied.
Harper had been calling him nonstop now for days and it was time to cut off her end, she had no use for them. Carrying her along on their plan would even slow them down more because she had no effect on Cade as they thought she would. He had to somehow stop her from trying so much to contact him constantly.
“Oh but he called me from this line the other day and told me to save it as his personal contact” Harper said confused.
“It is not” The man’s voice was firm and he was exhausted from the back and forth between them. “Can I help you ?”
“Okay can you please put him on I have something important to discuss with him” Harper said.
“I am sorry but Mr Vale can not come to the phone right now”
“Oh, he can not?” Harper could tell that this man speaking to her was probably standing in front of Cael while he watched him turn her down for him.
“Yes but I can take a message for him, if you give me your message and a name I will have that delivered as soon as he gets out of his meeting”
“Then can you tell me what time his meeting would end? I want to speak to him directly because it is urgent and a message would not work” she explained.
“Ummm..” the man stammered.
“So what time?” she asked. How could she take no for an answer when he approached her first? She did not have a solid plan but it seemed like they did so why did they want to suddenly drop her off from it?
“I have no idea how long the meeting would run so drop a message and a name and I will be sure to deliver it as soon as he is out of the meeting”
“See, I don’t want to drop a message or name for him, I know you both are in the same room while he watches you try to cut me off from calling him but I want you to deliver this to him, he started this and I hate doing things halfway, since he started this he should ensure to see it to the end” she let out in one breath.
“So are you dropping a name?” Harper scoffed at his professionalism. She was being serious and yet he was not breaking character after all.
“Tell him Harper Davis called and that if he does not call me by tonight I will call again and if he tries to ignore me I will have to show up at his office to see him for myself” she let out and then thought of the possibility that he was even listening into the conversation.
“Mr Cael if you are listening in, you should call me so I can help you, I am sure we can find a way around to achieve what we both want or else I might take matters into my own hands,” Harper said before yanking the phone of her ears and cutting of the call.
Cael let out a breath and wondered why she was so persistent, what plan could she have? He had no intention of going back to the plan he had with her before, there was little or nothing they could do to stop the wedding from happening now. Instead of trying to stop their wedding from happening, he was going to get his wedding rolling.
His mom had found a way to set up a first meeting for Frances Gates. Apparently, Frances’s mom was elated to know that the Vale family was interested in being family with them and quickly set up the date for them both.
Cael was excited since it seemed like he was going to do little to no work, if Mrs Gates wanted to be family with them then she was going to persuade her daughter to make it work. Suddenly he was now marrying not out of love but because he wanted to inherit the company.
He was not going to allow the threats of a powerless jobless girl who he could have out of the country with a single word get to him, he had to do his best to woo Frances on his date tonight. He was also hoping that news about him being on a date would flood the media and maybe somehow tone down how much people were talking about Cade and Ophelia.
They were pretty much in all news, fashion, business, entertainment and even sports. Apparently, they had gone on a golfing date and the sports section had thought it was a good headline for people to know.
His mother would have his head if he messed the meeting up and he would even curse himself out if anything happened to go wrong with the meeting.
“Here goes nothing”
