“Ophelia?”
Ophelia whipped her head to the open door and to Green standing by the doorway. “What are you doing here?” she murmured a bit angry.
“You still mad at me yeah?”
“Of course, I am,” Ophelia said taking off the covers from her body and pausing her movie before turning to him.
“I am here to say I am sorry,” Green said.
“Stop saying sorry, it is quite annoying,” Ophelia said taking away the lock of hair in her face and tucking it behind her ears.
“I am only saying it because I am sorry” Green responded. He tried to come in but since he could not read the expression on her face, he could not tell if she was angry or not.
“It is not because I am angry, I just felt that you did not trust I would make a good choice regarding my life” Ophelia let out.
“Is that how you felt?” Green asked and she nodded. “It is not how I wanted it to be passed across, I was worried about you. You know nothing about this man and yet you are trying to get into a lifetime relationship with this man”
“I will have to get married at the end of the day”
“I guess I was just being paranoid,” Green said.
He had thought that he would end up with Ophelia after being with her for long but seeing her resolve and her father’s adamance he knew he had no shot at it anymore. He was going to be at peace with it and just watch her from a distance and maybe one day he would find enough peace with her to move on from loving her.
“You were and it was scary for me” Ophelia responded.
“So am I forgiven?” Green asked.
“Did you come empty-handed?”
“Of course not, I come bearing gifts,” he said raising the bag he had been holding. She did not even notice that he was in a bag.
“Frozen yoghurt?”
“And your cheese favourite cake”
“Ohh” she let out a happy sound as she gestured to him. He stepped into the room and stretched the bag to her.
“Thank you” she said taking the bag from him and emptying the contents to the floor. She moved from the bed to the floor setting her tent.
“Your peace offering is somehow scary”
“Scary? What is so scary about frozen yoghurt and cheesecake?”
“I have my dress fitting tomorrow and eating this might make me fat”
“How can you get fat from a slice of cake and a small tube of yoghurt?” Green asked plopping to the ground beside her.
“Men,” she said with an eye roll before adding “always clueless about these things”
“I don’t think eating this would make you fat and you know the rule of our friendship, you have to eat all the peace offering, every single drop of it”
“I think you did this on purpose, you want the staff at the bridal shop to call me fat. Are you that angry that I was angry at you?”
Green’s hand went to her head steady her. “I wonder what goes on in here,” he said before she shook his hands away.
“Nothing has been going on in here,” she said pressing her lips together.
“I would eat half of this so you can look as thin as you want for your fitting tomorrow,” he said taking the cup of yoghurt and opening it.
“No thanks, you brought this for me so I have to eat it all” she said dragging the cup from his hands and sticking out her tongue to him.
“I don’t tend to understand you sometimes” he shook his head as he helped her take off the cake packaging.
“You know, they don’t make a cake like this in Starlit Haven” Ophelia murmured as she savoured the cake.
“Did you even try to find a cake place?”
“Do I have to do the work of finding a nice cake place? You already said that would be your job” Ophelia replied.
Once when she had been scolded by her dad for being a nuisance Green had been the one to console her with a slice of cheesecake and ever since then, it had been her favourite. She had told him she would only have cheesecake from him when she was feeling down or when they fought.
“Yes you do, now that you are going to be living with your husband, I am afraid you might have to get used to getting your own cheesecake yourself” Green explained.
“So if I get what you are saying, you are saying you would no longer get cheesecake with or for me because I am getting married right?” Ophelia turned to him.
“That is in fact what I am saying, I do not want your husband to see me as a threat to him”
“A threat? Oh please he would just have to make peace with the fact that you are in my life and that you are my cake buddy. Who knows if he likes cake?” she said before pushing the yoghurt full spoon into her mouth.
“Moreover how can you be a threat? You are my friend, I have never ever considered the possibility of us being together and I am sure he would understand that” she added with a mouthful.
Green did not like the sound of everything she said. He never even had a chance, and was already disqualified before the game started. He was a friend and a friend he had to be always.
“Sure, call me if you feel down and want a slice of cheesecake i will come running as fast as I can,” Green said ignoring all the things his heart was screaming at him to say.
“I would call you”
“Of course but do not call me too often or I might be tempted to punch him in the face”
“In a fight, you’d probably lose anyway” Ophelia let out a loud laugh and he shook his head.
“Just be good and happy at least”
“I will try”
“Don’t drink but have cheesecake instead anytime you feel sad”
“You have to have it with me,” Ophelia said.
“Of course I do”
