Harper looked around the plane, she could not believe that after saving all her income for such a long time she was still unable to save enough to afford a first-class ticket. After paying the deposit for the house she intended to rent and putting some other things in place she had nothing left and could barely scrap enough for a nice airline.
She hated the condition of the plane but she was sucking it up because she had a plan. If Cade could once be interested in her she was sure that she could find a way to make him interested in her once again. They had dated while he was in school, to her he was everything he wanted and to him, she was nothing more than a fling.
“Just a few more hours” she muttered to herself.
By the time they landed at the international airport of Rosewood City, she was convinced that it should be called the business hub. The airport was teeming with men in suits and women in corporate wear. In Starlit Haven, things were quite different. The airport was mostly crowded by students who travelled far and wide to school there.
She dragged her luggage in hand as she pushed herself through the crowd of people going in both directions and hastily as though they had no time to waste. She pushed through and found herself outside, she had been here once and it was because Cade had invited her to the city.
At that time she was convinced that he was so interested in her but two after they returned to Starlit Haven he broke up with her via social media and blocked her even though she kept showing up. She believed he had a reason for breaking up with her. She was here to get to the bottom of it and at the same time take her crown back.
The only place she remembered was the hotel where she lodged when she stayed, he had told her that it was one of their family heirloom and she knew to start her search from there. If not for the news she would never know what any of his family looked like. She was going to go to the hotel to dig up any information she could get once she was settled in.
As the cab drove through the city to her apartment she saw his name appear multiple times next to Ophelia Frost whom the media claimed was his wife-to-be. She knew Cade too well and there was no way he was with that woman. Not because she was not beautiful, if Harper was to be honest Ophelia was one of those beautiful girls that made one gasp but she did not want to believe that he would be trying to get married after breaking her heart into a million little pieces.
“Thank you” she called to the driver as he drove away. The man had been of great help to her and she was grateful.
“Things are off to a great start” she murmured to herself, her mind going to the last conversation she had with her mom.
THROWBACK
“Why on earth do you think it is a good idea to throw away the life you have managed to build here just because of a random boy you dated for six months in school?” Mary asked and Harper rolled her eyes.
“It was eight months, not six months and I am not throwing away my life, I am finding it” she said folding her clothes and putting them on one another.
“What is so special about him?” Mary asked tapping her hands together. She just could not understand her daughter. She as a mother had done all she could to give her daughter a perfect life. She worked to her bones to ensure she did not incur any student loan and that was why she had it so easy.
“If I bring him home as a son-in-law law I can guarantee you would commend me” Harper said confidently.
“What makes you think a boy who broke up with you over a text so brutally would accept you?” Mary wondered how and why she was being so patient with her but she kept going. Before she gave her daughter hell and told her that she was being foolish she wanted to hear her out again for the last time.
“He loves me he just doesn’t know it yet and I can help him realize it”
“But you said he has a fiancee already, did they break up?” Mary asked concerned that her daughter was planning to be a homewrecker.
“Mom trust me they are not together, maybe they are forced into an arranged marriage but I can assure you that they are not together”
“For god sake Harper, I raised you to have more dignity than this, how can you be so blinded by a man that you fail to see every other thing clearly”
“Mom, I am not blinded. I love him and I know that I do not need to wait for him to come to me, I can go there and make him realize his love for me”
“You will greatly regret this” Mary said leaving her daughter’s room in anger. There was nothing she had not tried but the girl was adamant about her decision. She tendered her resignation letter after getting a perfect job and was now packing up to go live in a strange city because of a man who did not care about her.
BACK TO REALITY
Harper stared at the apartment complex in front of her, back home she was not the wealthiest, in fact, her family could not boast of money but at least they lived comfortably enough. She would never be caught in such a living arrangement back home but she was now determined about her location. She had to make it work.
“Are you new here?” a timid voice rang from behind her.
She whipped her head to see the most petite girl ever with green eyes hidden behind thick-rimmed glasses staring at her.
“Yes, I am Harper” Harper responded stretching her hand to her. The girl took a step forward and took her hands.
“Welcome I am Rose”
