Chapter 1282: The Governor’s Son

Book:The Primus Of The Country Published:2024-8-20

Faced with Chris Shelby’s brutal beating, Dylan Piper had no strength to resist. Dr. McKinney, standing nearby, was terrified. After all, one was the King of the East Coast, and the other was the son of the East Coast governor-neither were figures he could afford to provoke. Dr. McKinney hurried forward, pleading, “Mr. Shelby, stop! If you keep going, there will be trouble.”
If Dylan Piper were actually killed by Chris Shelby, he, as the hospital director, would not escape responsibility. Dylan Piper was the son of the East Coast governor, not someone a mere director could afford to offend.
“Get out of my way!” Chris Shelby roared, pushing Dr. McKinney aside. Facing Chris Shelby’s icy gaze, Dr. McKinney was too frightened to move. Only moments later did Chris Shelby stop the assault.
At this point, Dylan Piper’s face was swollen beyond recognition. Covered in bruises and with several ribs broken, he glared at Chris Shelby and said fiercely, “You’re ruthless! Today, I admit defeat.”
Chris Shelby, with a cold expression, asked, “What do you plan to do about the person you hit?”
Through gritted teeth, Dylan Piper asked, “What exactly do you want?”
“It’s simple,” Chris Shelby said calmly. “You pay ten million dollars.”
“What? Ten million dollars!” At hearing this, Dylan Piper jumped up. He cursed loudly, “Are you out of your mind? Why don’t you just rob me? Ten million dollars, just like that!”
Dylan Piper was furious, incensed at the idea of paying ten million for hitting someone. Chris Shelby sneered, “You can choose not to pay, but then I’ll break your legs.”
Hearing that Chris Shelby would break his legs, Dylan Piper turned pale. Having seen what Chris Shelby was capable of, he knew it was not an empty threat.
“Young man, do you realize the governor’s office won’t let you off for this?” Dylan Piper threatened through clenched teeth.
“Do you really think I’d be afraid of your East Coast governor’s office?” Chris Shelby replied disdainfully.
Seeing this, Dylan Piper was frustrated. With his status as the governor’s son, he was used to people fawning over him. Yet here was this brute, not only beating him up but also demanding ten million dollars for his nanny-it was outrageous!
But Dylan Piper knew that if he didn’t pay, Chris Shelby might really break his legs. As the governor’s son, how could he continue in the East Coast if he was crippled?
With that thought, Dylan Piper took a deep breath and said, “Fine! You’re tough, I’ll pay.” He then pulled out a blank check, filled it out for ten million dollars, and handed it to Chris Shelby.
Chris Shelby took the check, glanced at it with a mocking smile, and said, “Didn’t expect you to be so wealthy, to hand over ten million just like that!”
Hearing Chris Shelby’s words, Dylan Piper wanted nothing more than to strangle him. But knowing he was no match, he could only bide his time.
Afterwards, Chris Shelby left. Watching his departing figure, Dylan Piper muttered darkly, “Kid, I will get my revenge.”
Dr. McKinney interjected, “Mr. Piper, do you know who that man is?”
“Who? Is there anyone in this East Coast I should be afraid of?” Dylan Piper asked disdainfully.
“He is the King of the East Coast!” Dr. McKinney said emphatically.
“What? He’s the King of the East Coast!”
Boom!
Upon hearing this, Dylan Piper’s face was a picture of shock, as if struck by lightning!
Dylan Piper had never imagined that Chris Shelby was the King of the East Coast!
Although he was the son of the Governor of the East Coast, the King’s status on the East Coast was even higher than his father’s.
Yet, Dylan Piper had never faced such an indignity in his life.
How could he possibly swallow such a bitter pill?
Dylan Piper muttered through clenched teeth, “So what if he’s the King of the East Coast? He’s not officially recognized by the court, so what kind of king is he? My father is the mighty Governor of the East Coast. Are we supposed to be afraid of him?”
Although Chris Shelby was known as the King of the East Coast, this title was not acknowledged by the Amerosia government.
So, while Chris Shelby’s power was equivalent to that of the king, it was a title in name only.
Seeing this, Dr. McKinney said no more.
After all, he had given his warning; whatever Dylan Piper did next was none of his concern.

At that moment, May had just been wheeled out of the operating room.
Ava rushed over, crying out, “Mom, are you alright?”
A nearby doctor quickly said, “I’m sorry, but the patient needs to rest now.”
Esther approached and asked, “Doctor, how is the patient doing now?”
The doctor replied, “Don’t worry, the surgery went very smoothly. The patient is severely injured and still unconscious, but you shouldn’t worry; she’s out of critical danger now.”
Hearing this, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Juliette came up to Ava and comforted her, “Did you hear that? Your mom is going to be okay!”
Ava nodded vigorously, her face full of gratitude, “Thank you, Esther! Thank you, Juliette!”
Knowing her mother was safe, Ava’s heart finally settled.
The doctor said, “You can go and complete the admission procedures now.”
“I’ll go,” Esther volunteered, and went to handle May’s hospital admission.
At this moment, Chris Shelby returned.
Upon learning that May was okay, he too breathed a sigh of relief.
Chris Shelby handed a check to Ava, saying, “Ava, this is what the person responsible is paying for your mom’s medical expenses.”
Ava took the check and her eyes widened in disbelief.
“So much money!”
Ava could hardly believe what she was seeing; the string of zeros was absolutely shocking.
Chris Shelby smiled and said, “Yes! The guy who hit your mom is a rich second generation, very wealthy. I talked some sense into him, and he immediately realized his mistake and offered to pay this much. He even said if we didn’t accept it, he would consider suicide!”
Hearing this, Juliette rolled her eyes.
She knew her brother’s true nature better than anyone.
How could Chris Shelby possibly have a reasonable discussion?
Typically, Chris Shelby’s idea of reasoning involved fists.
Ava hastily said, “This is too much money; I can’t accept it!”
Chris Shelby laughed, “Just take it. Your mom needs money for treatment.”
Ava felt uneasy, “But this is just too much!”
For Ava, ten million dollars was an astronomical sum.
Juliette smiled and said, “Ava, just accept the money. It’s compensation for your mom, after all. Once you have this money, you can properly take care of her treatment.”
