Ava’s expression changed upon seeing Chris Shelby. The recent events caused her cheeks to flush slightly. Chris Shelby greeted her with a smile, “Hello, I’m Chris Shelby.”
“Hello,” Ava replied, her face paling.
Juliette, curious, asked, “Ava, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
Ava shook her head, “No, I just haven’t rested well these past few days.”
Juliette expressed her concern, “Then you need to make sure you get some rest.”
Chris Shelby sighed in relief when Ava did not mention the earlier incident.
Eyeing Ava, Chris Shelby awkwardly said, “Ava, consider this place your home, and don’t be shy at all.”
“Okay!” Ava nodded and said little else.
“I’m going to sleep now!” With that, Ava went off to bed.
Given the many rooms in the villa, Ava picked a guest room at random.
Watching Ava leave, Chris Shelby shook his head. “Ava is quite shy; it seems we’ll need to get along slowly.”
The next morning, Ava came over, sobbing.
“Esther!” Esther, curious, asked, “Ava, why are you crying? What happened?”
Tears streaming, Ava replied, “Esther, I just got a call-my mom was in a car accident!”
“What?” Esther and the others were shocked.
Esther quickly asked, “Ava, how is your mom now?”
Ava shook her head, “I don’t know, I only know she was hit by a car and has been taken to the hospital.”
Hearing this, Esther turned to Chris Shelby, “Dear, let’s go see her together!”
May, the household nanny who had the accident, was someone they needed to visit out of both concern and duty.
“Okay!” Chris Shelby nodded, and they all drove to the hospital.
Ava cried throughout the drive.
Juliette comforted her, “Ava, don’t cry, your mom will be alright.”
On the way, Chris Shelby learned more about May’s accident. She was hit by a sports car while shopping for groceries, a task she handled daily for the villa. No one had expected such an incident.
Twenty minutes later, they arrived at the hospital.
Upon their arrival, they found out that May was still in surgery.
Seeing this, Ava’s eyes reddened.
Seeing Ava like this, Chris Shelby felt deeply sympathetic. Ava was only twenty, and her mother’s uncertain fate from the accident was a significant blow to her.
Meanwhile, Esther and Juliette were visibly anxious.
At that moment, Chris Shelby learned that May was hit by a young heir, someone he had never held in high regard, viewing them as arrogant and entitled.
He found out that the person responsible for the accident was in the office of Dr. McKinney, the head of East Coast First Hospital.
Hearing this, Chris Shelby immediately prepared to go to the office.
Chris Shelby told Esther and the others, “Dear, I need to handle something, please wait here for me.”
Seeing Chris Shelby about to leave, Esther frowned and asked, “Dear, where are you going?”
“Don’t ask so much, I’ll be right back.” With that, Chris Shelby left.
Esther always felt a bit uneasy watching Chris Shelby leave. She said to Juliette, “Wait here, Juliette. I’m going to see what’s going on.” Then, she followed after Chris Shelby.
Meanwhile, Chris Shelby arrived at Dr. McKinney’s office and barged in without knocking. “Who is it? Don’t you know you should knock before entering?” Dr. McKinney was displeased with the sudden intrusion into his office.
“Mr. Shelby…” However, when Dr. McKinney saw it was Chris Shelby, he was at a loss for words. He knew very well who Chris Shelby was-the king of the East Coast, not someone a mere hospital director could afford to offend. Dr. McKinney quickly put on a flattering smile and said, “Mr. Shelby, what brings you here? Why didn’t you let me know in advance? I could have come to greet you!”
Chris Shelby cut to the chase, “I’m not here for anything else. I just want to know who hit my nanny.”
“What if I was the one who hit her?” A brash voice came from the side.
Chris Shelby turned to see a young man in his twenties, dressed in a designer suit, exuding an air of arrogance. “Was it you who hit my nanny?” Chris Shelby asked calmly.
“So what if I did?” the young man replied disdainfully. “Tell me, how much money do you want? One million? Two million? Just name your price, and I’ll pay you right away!”
Hearing this, Chris Shelby’s expression darkened. He hadn’t expected the young man to be so arrogant, showing no regard for another person’s life. To the young man, perhaps the life of another was just the cost of a meal-nothing significant.
But to Chris Shelby, every life was priceless.
Snap!
Without another word, Chris Shelby slapped the young man hard across the face. The attack was so sudden that the young man couldn’t react in time. Soon, half of his face was swollen.
“You dare hit me? Do you know who I am? I am Dylan Piper, the son of the East Coast Governor!” the young man shouted angrily.
Dylan Piper hadn’t expected Chris Shelby to strike without a word. Everyone knew he was the son of the East Coast Governor, a man who walked sideways through life, feared and respected by many. That someone dared to hit him was unthinkable.
“The son of the East Coast Governor?” Chris Shelby hadn’t realized the young man’s significant background. But even if he was the son of the East Coast Governor, what of it?
In Chris Shelby’s eyes, he was nothing.
“So what if I hit you?” Chris Shelby scoffed.
With those words, he kicked Dylan Piper fiercely.
Bang!
A loud noise followed as Dylan Piper was kicked away. Chris Shelby didn’t stop there; he continued to punch and kick him.
“You think being the son of the East Coast Governor makes you special? Is my nanny’s life not a life? Let me tell you, no matter whose son you are, if you dare hit my nanny, that’s unacceptable!”
