Veronica was triggered when she heard the word ‘Mother’.
“I’m not angry! I just don’t want to see you again. I’ll consider forgiving you if you don’t show up again!”
“You are so heartless! Have you forgotten how I blocked your father from beating you when you were young? I still have scars from saving you.”
Chloe Bowen held out her hand.
Veronica looked at her and said, “Who knows if you were really protecting me or someone else? “Are you now trying to guilt trip me to get what you want?”
Her mother scoffed. “What’s going on with you and your father?”
“It has nothing to do with you?”
“He was not your biological father but he raised you like his own. He worked hard to provide for you. Was this the gratitude that he deserved?”
Veronica Parker almost laughed, “Hard work?”
Yes, it takes strength not to hit people.”
“Veronica, don’t be heartless. Even if he hit you, he didn’t starve you! If you hadn’t been raised by him, you wouldn’t be alive now!”
How could Veronica reason with this woman? Her outlook on life was twisted. She was close minded and it would be useless to argue with her.
“If you came here to put in a good word for him then you are wasting your time! Did you hooked up again?”
Chloe flushed with anger at the word “hook-up”.
“I just don’t like how you’re treating him!”
Veronica looked at her indifferently. “He deserved it.”
“Veronica, you’ve gone too far! Whether Tom Parker is your real father or not, you should help him! “Chloe is starting to be unreasonable!
“What if don’t?”
“You’ll regret it!” Chloe turned around and went out from her office.
Good riddance!
Unexpectedly, Chloe stood outside and said to Veronica’s colleagues “Look! Is this Veronica Parker, the beautiful host of your TV station who neglected her parents regardless if it was life or death? Even if her father was not his biological father, he raised her for years. She ignored her parents as soon as she had money. What an ungrateful child!”
Veronica’s colleagues looked at each other, confused by the situation. They were uncomfortable after hearing about the Host Parker’s family.
Veronica went up to pull her. “What do you think you’re doing?” Get out of here! ”
Chloe shook off her hand. “Why would I go out? What are you afraid of? Do you feel guilty for being an ungrateful child? Don’t acknowledge your parents. I just want everyone to know the real you.”
Veronica didn’t expect Chloe to be brazen.
“Chloe Bowen, stop messing around!” Veronica warned her with a cold voice.
“Are you kidding me? I’m just telling the truth! If you don’t have a skeleton in the closet, then what are you afraid of?” Chloe looked at her colleagues. She turned around and said to them, “Veronica found a rich wild man and she turned away from her parents. Do you think such a person can still be a host? Huh? I think every one of you here has a conscience more than she does. Aah!”
Before continuing her tirade, Veronica pulled her hand.
“Veronica Parker, let go of me!” Chloe pulled Veronica’s hand and pulled her hair making her scalp painful. Ah!”
She let go and Chloe finally got away. She was still pointing and scolding at her. “Veronica, you even beat your own mother. How could you be so cold? You’re a monster!”
“I want to hit both of my parents. Do you want to see it?” Veronica angrily shouted.
“Just because you are now rich doesn’t give you the right to treat us harshly. Maybe it’s great to have Nick Cage backing you up but let’s see what happens when he dumps you. Let’s see if you will still be arrogant.” Chloe shouted back angrily. She looked crazy with her hair a mess.
The elevator door opened and Toby stepped out. He looked at Chloe gloomily.
“What’s with the arrogance?”
Chloe took a step back and looked at Toby warily. “This is a family matter. This does not concern you.”
Veronica looked at Toby who came into view. She frowned slightly. How could this man be discharged from the hospital again?
How did Toby get here fast? Did he drive like a maniac just to get here while Chloe is still here? He is so reckless.
“My wound is fine.” Toby said when he saw Veronica was worried.
Then he turned to Chloe, “Why are you still here. Shall I kick you out?”
Chloe knows that she can’t continue since Toby is here. But her goal of humiliating Veronica has been achieved so she’ll stop for now.
Before leaving however, she threatened Veronica. “You’d better think about what I said or I will never stop!”
Veronica watched Chloe enter the elevator and leave.
There was no expression on her face, no anger, no sadness, as if the person was indifferent.
Veronica came to her senses as soon as he felt Toby’s cold hand.
Toby immediately withdrew his hand. “Don’t worry about it.” He said.
“Didn’t the Doctor say to take good care of your wound. Why don’t you take it seriously? Aren’t you afraid of the consequences?”
“Wouldn’t it be nice for you to take care of me then?” Toby said jokingly.
Veronica was speechless, “You wish! Go back to the hospital! ”
Toby stared at her and Veronica was bewildered. “What are you looking at?”
“You don’t seem sad.”
Veronica’s eyes flashed. “I’m numb. There’s nothing to be sad about.” Only she knows that she is not Chloe Bowen’s daughter. No one else knows. So what if Chloe said a lot of hurtful words.
They have been together for so long that it was easy for Toby to see through her.
“What does she want from you?” Toby asked.
“Nothing. I was surprised when she asked me to help Tom Parker.” Veronica said.
“It’s either an interest or a threat.” Toby said.
Veronica was stunned and looked at him. “What benefits can Chloe get from it?” Threats? Tom threatened Chloe?”
Her heart beat wildly when she thought of Eden Cage. Was Chloe threatened by Tom Parker?
What kind of messy videos does Tom had when he was with Chloe? Just like Isabella, Chloe was afraid of Kevin Cage. Chloe listened to Tom and asked for his help.
It feels a little crazy but Toby certainly doesn’t know about Eden Cage. What’s more, I didn’t know I had a half-brother.
If he knew, she doesn’t want to know what he would think.
Even if you are not close to Eden Cage, you will not be really indifferent.
“What do you think?” Toby asked.
Veronica said, “Don’t think about it. Go back to the hospital!”
“I’m ready to leave the hospital. Would you like to meet me at my place?” Toby asked.
“No way!” Veronica immediately refused, ignoring the gloom of Toby’s eyes and said, “Are you leaving the hospital early?”
“It’s like being at home. I don’t want Nick Cage standing at my door. “Toby said.
Veronica felt anxious when she heard Nick’s name. She couldn’t help looking at the cameras as if it were human eyes staring back at her.
She and Toby were exposed to surveillance so will it be Nick behind the TV station’s surveillance?
There was a bodyguard at the door of the ward. The bodyguard must know when Toby leaves the ward. If the bodyguard knows Nick Cage, then will know immediately.
