She thought there wouldn’t be any connection anymore between him and her.
It seemed like that to her before. She didn’t expect something like this would ever happen.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door and Veronica Parker’s heart stopped.
Her frightened eyes stared at the closed door while her heart pounded so loud as if it would get out of her chest. She then wondered who could it be.
Tom Parker called just now. And then somebody knocked on her door. Could it be him? He knew that she lived there?
There were so many thoughts running in her mind at that moment. So many questions. Veronica Parker remembered of how she had suffered when she and Tom Parker lived together. She was beaten up by him whenever he gets the chance and there was no one to help her.
And now, Isabella was not with her. What should she do?
Veronica Parker was so frightened and tears rolled from her eyes.
She held her breath and wished that he would just disappear and never bother her again. There was a knock on the door again, and this time it was obvious that the person who knocked on the door was impatient.
Veronica Parker wanted to stand up but she felt weak. She tried to stand up and propped on the low table using her hands, but she accidentally pressed it on the bowl and knocked the noodles over. The bowl turned over leg and burnt her.
Veronica Parker exclaimed and was in pain.
Nick Cage who was standing outside gave the door a sharp look. He took a step back, raised his long legs and fiercely kicked the door.
With just one try, the door was kicked open.
The loud noise made Veronica Parker tremble all over.
She was too shocked. Her eyes grew wide open when she saw Nick Cage.
“Nick Cage? Why did you kick the door? Don’t you know how to knock properly? That was quite an entrance.” She exclaimed.
Nick Cage’s long body stood then approached Veronica Parker. His eyes were locked on her as if he hurriedly checked if she was harmed or not. When he realized that she wasn’t, his round eyes coldly looked at her and asked, “Why didn’t you open the door?”
Veronica Parker was relieved when she saw him, then she stood up properly as he approached her.
She was just wearing denim shorts which showed her white and beautiful legs, which revealed also some redness because of the hot bowl.
She then pointed on to the redness on her leg, showed it to him and said, “See this? You suddenly knocked on the door and scared me. So I accidentally flipped the bowl of hot noodles. How then can I open the door for you?” With that, he turned angrily to the bathroom, looked for a towel and dampen it with some water. He went back to her and wiped her legs with a cold towel.
Veronica Parker held the towel that he placed on her leg. Good thing though that she was able to eat some of the noodles before the incident happened. The noodles wasn’t that hot anymore when it spilled on her thigh. Otherwise, it would have caused her more pain then blisters later on.
Nick Cage stood at the bathroom door, his black eyes looked at her beautiful legs then asked, “I’m sorry if I scared you. This wouldn’t have happened if you just opened the door.”
Veronica Parker didn’t look up, shook her head and refused to answer.
She thought to herself that it was impossible for Nick Cage to genuinely apologize to her. It wouldn’t even matter if she refused to answer.
After wiping the noodles off her legs, she ignored Nick Cage and walked past him to the living room to pick up the bowl she had knocked over.
Then she thought of something. She stood up and went towards the broken door, inspected it and angrily said, “You broke my! You should fix this!”
Nick Cage looked at Veronica Parker. He frowned and thought to himself that that was something different of her and got too interested. Veronica Parker closed the door reluctantly, came over and went on with the dishes.
Nick Cage sat down on the sofa, which sank because he was too heavy for it. “You had a lot of nerve to say such a thing.” Nick Cage crossed his legs and looked at her sharply with black eyes.
“Occasionally.” She firmly responded.
After she finished cleaning up the mess, she placed the bowl on the table and asked him, “What are you doing here?”
“Nothing. I just came to visit. I just want to see how you are coping up.” He impolitely responded. Veronica Parker could not ignore the depth and sharpness of Nick Cage’s eyes and lowered her eyes. Then she answered back, “What else can I do? I’m looking for a job every day now!”
Nick Cage intently looked at her and said “I’m thinking about placing a locator on your body so I can easily track you down. A locator implant to be precise.”
Veronica Parker was frightened. She was shocked after hearing him say those words so she stared at him and asked, “What did you say? Nick Cage, are you out of your mind?”
“An implant locator. That locator would be embedded on your body so you can’t just take it off.” He answered plainly. As if he just pertained to a usual idea.
She was bewildered and couldn’t believe such a terrible person ever existed.
She couldn’t think properly and couldn’t look at him as if she didn’t hear his crazy idea.
An implant locator?! First he insisted on her having that bracelet. And now an implant!
She then wondered what has gotten into him to think such a horrible plan.
“Nick Cage, I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear you say such a thing. You don’t actually mean that right?” Veronica Parker couldn’t believe it and asked him.
“Do you think I’m still seeing Toby Cage? I’ve made it very clear. I’m not seeing him anymore and I have nothing to do with him. What more do you want from me?” She asked further.
“Anyway, forget it. You found the bracelet, right? Just give it to me and I’ll wear it again if that’s what makes you happy.” Veronica added before Nick Cage could even respond.
Before she had finished talking, she looked at the palm of Nick Cage and there it was, the bracelet that she threw into the lake.
Veronica Parker flashed her eyes, looked up at him and said, “You found it. Were you just waiting for me to say it?”
“You can refuse it if you want to.” Nick Cage proposed.
Could Veronica Parker refuse a person such as Nick Cage? If she would refuse his offer, the possessive Nick Cage would definitely pursue for that implant locator and place it on her body. And she doesn’t want that. “Give it to me. I’ll just put it on.” Veronica Parker went forward to reach for the bracelet and get it. As soon as her fingertips touched the bracelet, Nick Cage took the opportunity and forcefully pulled her over towards him. She was then caught off guard. .
Veronica Parker fell into Nick Cage’s arms and was forcefully seated on his lap. The sturdy touch faintly revealed indescribable feeling, which made her feel uneasy too. “What are you doing Nick?” She asked.
His face was serious. He looked at her as if it was the first time he’d seen her that close. He intricately looked at every detail of her face and was amazed by her beauty. He tried to conceal what he felt and just placed the bracelet a little farther away from her.
Veronica Parker frowned and looked at him feeling confused.
“Hand it over to me now. It’s what you wanted, right?” She challenged him. Nick Cage shook his head.
Veronica Parker couldn’t grasp what he was trying to imply. Her mind was running in circles now and couldn’t think properly.
Then there was silence for a while.
Nick Cage spoke, “I changed my mind.” There was no expression on his face when he said that. As if it was nothing. He pinched her chin and spoke again in a domineering way, “Forget about the bracelet. Don’t worry because the locator will soon be implanted on your body.”
“That’s impossible. You can’t do that.” Veronica Parker’s voice was a bit feeble and her face looked troubled already. Her heart was pounding again, as if it would rip off her chest. She almost choked because of fear. She wanted to scream with so much anger towards him but she couldn’t. “Yes I can. I can do whatever I want.” He responded with a serious tone.
The strength of her jaw tightened which also forced her to face Nick Cage’s sharp and deep black eyes.
Veronica Parker’s eyes trembled. She couldn’t say a word.
A memory of him kissing her came back and it reminded of her how passionate he could be. She couldn’t resist his charms. She was like a baby longing for his touch, his gentle caress and warm kisses. Veronica Parker felt a stifling sensation in her chest, and then her legs trembled.
Nick Cage’s big hand clenched tightly.
She quickly snapped and brushed off the idea away from her mind. She should control herself. If she won’t, something might happen again.
She hurriedly turned her face away from him and gasped for breath, “I… I’m going to Winter Villa. I better get ready and change.” Nick Cage deeply sighed and his eyes deepened.
Unexpectedly, loosened his grip and let her go.
When she got up, he noticed the red finger marks on her leg.
His brow frowned slightly. He didn’t realize that he held her so tight. As soon as she stood up, the cell phone on the small table rang.
She looked towards the small table and wondered who would call her at that time.
Her heart was beating fast. She thought of Tom Parker again.
She went to reach for her cell phone and found out that it was from a strange number again.
Without having second thoughts, she just hung up.
Nick Cage’s dark eyes deepened and was curious as to who just called her. With a serious tone he asked, “Aren’t you going to answer that?”
“I don’t know who the caller was. The number was not registered on my phone” Veronica Parker answered. She turned around just said, “I’m going to change my clothes.”
Nick Cage’s eyes were still very anxious. He was not convinced by what Veronica Parker said about the caller.
After going out, Veronica Parker followed Nick Cage, vaguely aware of some changes in Nick Cage’s mood.
They felt kind of uneasy with each other.
Veronica Parker looked at Nick Cage and wondered what happened to him. Earlier he was just fine. But now, something was not right.
She wondered if she did anything wrong to offend him or to ever make him feel bad.
Veronica Parker pretended not to notice anything and just kept quiet. She just went on and observed his actions.
As soon as they got into the car, they drove going to Winter Villa.
All throughout, Nick Cage didn’t say a word. He just kept mum and was her. The silence was deafening. Veronica Parker was still very cautious of her movements.
She doesn’t like it whenever he keeps quiet. Sure enough that he was thinking of something.
As soon they reached Winter Villa, they noticed that the door was wide open.
Veronica Parker immediately saw Chloe Bowen, and felt the terrible change in the Nick Cage’s mood.
Veronica Parker wondered why Chloe Bowen was there.
