Josh ran after Julie in the distance without feeling any discomfort.
Veronica thought that she had enough. “I’ll leave later. No one is unluckier than me. After all, the more you don’t want to see it, the more It’ll show up in front of you. ”
Isabella knew that the person she was talking about was Tom Parker and she sighed, “Yeah, I can’t believe I met him. he really looked like a dog. The landlord looked good, but I didn’t expect to actually meet him. ”
“The landlord isn’t the rich woman who went to see my grandmother.” Veronica said.
Although they’ve been separated for so many years, the two women looked different so they could be distinguished.
“Are you sure about that? The landlord called him her husband, you know?” Isabella told Veronica.
“Maybe he got divorced again! It’s not really unusual for a man like him to get divorced multiple times.” Veronica said in an audible whisper.
However, there was still a big gap between the image of her father.
Tom Parker used to wear very rural, undesirable clothes. Now the suit he wears is straight and moves very much like a successful person. It seemed that life for him had taken a turn for the better.
Veronica looked up and saw that he didn’t play for long. He then went back with the six children who hadn’t finished yet.
When they got back, Veronica and Isabella began to pack their things.
There was nothing to clean up. They just took the money and the children; the rest of the things could be bought, and they could always buy it next time they get the chance.
Peter only ran to the living room. He didn’t know that he stepped on the remote control that fell on the ground. That turned on the TV and the children were curious as to why the TV turned on so suddenly.
The TV switched to the local news and the children decided to watch it.
“At about seven o’clock in the evening, a private car was picking up passengers at the nearby bus stop. On the way to Z City, the passengers on board were suddenly missing. The suspect, who was known to be Mr. Webb, was temporarily detained.”
Veronica, who packed already packed her backpack, was shocked by what she heard. When she looked back and saw Mr. Webb’s face on TV, she immediately knew who he was.
“Isn’t that the driver?” Isabella said as her eyes widened.
Veronica was silent and she froze.
To other people, it may have seemed like an ordinary crime. However, Isabella and Veronica were well aware that the case was not normal.
They immediately knew that Nick was pulling the strings from behind the scenes. Although it was to be expected, they didn’t know that Nick would do this to the poor driver. He blamed all the things on Mr. Webb so that Veronica could see.
Before Veronica regained her thoughts, the local news was immediately switched to a celebrity interview.
Nick could be seen during the interview, his aura emanating through the TV screen. Although he looked threatening, he didn’t look angry at all.
The moment that Veronica saw Nick through the screen, her heart sank. For a second, she thought that it was all over and that there was nowhere to hide anymore.
Daniel’s little finger pointed excitedly, “Cage!”
“I know him!” Peter, Julie and Cathy said in unison.
“I don’t really remember him…” Josh told the others and was embarrassed.
Lily raised her hands. “Josh, that’s Nick Cage!”
Veronica thought it was a normal interview at first. But after the host asked a question about financial trends, the topic changed.
“Mr. Cage, apart from your business, is there a person who has a place in your heart?” Lisa, who was the host, asked Nick while plastering a smile on her face.
“Yes.” Nick simply said.
“Can you tell me who she is? She must be a very special woman.”
“She’s the kind of woman who doesn’t know whether to live or die.”
As soon as Nick said that, he suddenly faced the camera, showing a mischievous smile in the process. It was at this moment that Veronica felt raw fear welling up deep inside her.
Veronica was about to pick up her bag, but she was beginning to panic so she completely forgot to pick it up after she watched Nick’s interview.
Isabella came striding towards Veronica and hurriedly handed over her bag. “Let’s go!”
Veronica simply nodded and turned off the TV.
Veronica was about to open the door when she suddenly froze, thinking that Isabella might get involved with her.
“What’s the matter?” Isabella told Veronica.
“You can’t go with me.”
“Why?” Isabella asked, confusion written on her face.
“Nick is setting me up. If found the driver, that means he already knows that I’m in this city. If I go out and don’t know the road conditions, a surveillance camera can expose me. If it does, then we won’t be able to escape! ” Veronica told her.
“What are we going to do?” Isabella asked urgently.
“Let me think about it first.”
Veronica’s mind was a mess. She can’t think clearly under pressure, but she knew she had to do something.
Nick had put Veronica on the spot and there was nowhere to run.
If Nick Cage starts a search, she’ll be found in less than two days!
Veronica looked at Peter and only stared at him, Peter was confused and didn’t know the seriousness of the situation.
Veronica forcefully smiled, took their little hands, and touched Josh’s face. “It’s all right, we’ll go later. let’s play first!”
Peter only saw the smile on Veronica’s face and happily ran to the living room.
“Do you want to go at night?” Isabella asked.
“It’s easier to attract Nick’s attention during the day. I have to contact the driver first and ask the him to cooperate with me and find a place where there’s no surveillance cameras.”
Apart from the method that Veronica thought of on the spot, she had no other choices left.
They were desperate enough to take risks, but they still hoped that they’d succeed. Veronica wasn’t the type of woman who could just sit back and wait.
Isabella went to play with the kids while Veronica stood there alone with her phone looking for the driver’s contact number.
After making a request, the driver called to confirm. “Hello, is the address accurate?”
“Yes, it’s accurate. I’d like to rent your car so we can go to Z City, but not now. Will you please come to this address at 9 o’clock?” Veronica asked.
“Sure, how many are you?”
“Eight people.”
“Eight people?! Isn’t that overloading? If you go to Z City and cross the highway, we’ll be stopped. Even if the car has seats for seven people. ”
“Do you have seats for seven? The seats for seven are even better. Although there are eight of us, there are only two adults. The others are children under the age of three.”
“Six children? Then seven seats are fine. However, I have to increase the price for seven seats.” The driver told Veronica.
“That’s no problem.”
“Alright, I’ll be there at 9 o’clock.”
“Thank you.” Veronica told the driver as she hung up. She soon realized that she forgot to mention avoiding surveillance cameras.
“It doesn’t matter.” She murmured to herself. As long as the driver comes at the exact same time she gave him, she’ll disconnect from the main gate of the capital. Surveillance cameras wouldn’t be able to see her there.
After getting in the car, no matter how influential Nick was, it’s going to be impossible for him find cars one by one.
As for the imprisoned driver, Veronica thought about what she could do. Nick framed Mr. Webb, after all. He was innocent and just wanted to help her out. He didn’t have any obligation to help her, but he didn’t out of the goodness of his heart.
Veronica thought that Nick was truly a terrible man. She felt guilty for the poor driver and wanted to save him, but was there actually a way to save Mr. Webb without exposing themselves?
