Nick concluded that Veronica had him on the palm of her hands. He couldn’t believe that he let her escape like this.
No one opposed Nick like this, which made him furious.
Nick stared grudgingly at the computer screen, holding the silver bracelet on the palm of his hand. As he tried to regain his strength, he growled at Kay in a low, menacing voice. “even if you have to search everywhere, you still need to get her back to me!”
Veronica got out of the car she just rode on and immediately rented a private car to the next city.
On the car, Isabella asked, worried about Veronica. “We’ve already left capital. Do you really want to rush like this?”
Veronica grit her teeth, “Isabella, you don’t know Nick. If the bracelet falls into the water, he’ll try his best to pick it back up. The bracelet has a locator, after all. It’ll take him some time to find it, but that doesn’t mean he can’t find it.”
“Once he finds out that there’s only a bracelet and I can’t be seen, he’ll know about my plan and come after me right away. As long as he finds the ticket, he’ll know which city I went to. ” Veronica added.
“It’s normal for people to fall into the lake and make the bracelet come off, right?”
“I don’t think that’s the case.” Veronica told her.
Along the way, her heart was beating nervously. Veronica was afraid that Nick would suddenly find out about her where she was. If she manages to escape but end up failing, Nick will surely torture her.
“I’m just worried about the fact that the kids won’t be able to adjust to this.” Isabella said.
Veronica looked at the six children with a soft look on her face. She touched their faces and hugged them. “Can you guys bear it a little longer? Come on, sleep next to Mom. It’s going to feel like we’re at home. ”
“Mom, are we flying?” Peter asked.
The rest of the children suddenly turned to look at Peter and was intrigued by the possibility.
“Mom, I forgot to bring my panda. My panda has never been on a plane!” Cathy said.
“I want to play with guns!” Peter told Veronica happily.
“Mom, Josh and I don’t have a kite with us.” Julie and Josh pouted.
“Mom bought me the ring, the flower, did not take.” Lily said as she pouted along with Julie and Josh.
Daniel was silent. He didn’t seem to bring his pen either.
Veronica simply sighed. This wasn’t supposed to be a trip, but she could understand how the children felt. “Mom will buy it for you sometime soon, okay?”
“Yay!” The six children cheered happily.
The scenery outside was getting darker while the car kept moving. Veronica’s restlessness seemed to have subsided for a bit, which made her sigh.
Peter had started to yawn and was already drowsy.
The three little girls had slept on Isabella while the other three slept on Veronica.
After they rode the car for about half an hour, Isabella suddenly started to panic.
“What’s the matter?” Veronica asked her
“Josh has a fever! He’s really hot!” Isabella said anxiously.
Veronica reached out to touch Josh’s forehead. She thought that Isabella was right, but she reassured herself that he’ll be fine after a little rest.
“Josh?”
“Yeah?” Josh said as he opened his eyes. Tears were falling down his face and that alone made Veronica worry.
“Mister, how long will it take for us to get to the neighboring city?” Veronica asked.
“if there’s no traffic, it’ll take us two and a half hours.” He said.
Veronica never thought that Josh would have a fever.
His temperature was so hot. However, Josh had a weak immune system. He was frightened by the sudden journey, but Veronica didn’t expect that it would come to this.
“Veronica, you have to go back! If Josh’s condition gets worse, you’re going to regret it for the rest of your life.” Isabella said anxiously.
“I know.” Veronica told Isabella as she gritted her teeth. She knew she had no other choice but to go back.
“Mister, I want you to go back and take us directly to the hospital.”
“Yes Ma’am.” The driver drove to the intersection, turned around and rushed to the city hospital.
Veronica took Josh in her arms and felt distressed.
Josh’s face was burning red.
“Mom.” Josh closed his eyes and cried weakly.
“Mom is here. It’ll be all right.” Veronica said as kissed Josh on the cheek. She was eager to make the driver go faster so they could already arrive to the hospital.
Forty minutes later, Josh saw the doctor and was relieved as well.
He was simply frightened, so he developed a fever.
Veronica was relieved hear the news.
Josh was simply lying on the hospital bed with Veronica beside him.
Josh had been woken up when he got out of the car. Now, he was sleeping on the hospital bed. Isabella was the one who put him back to sleep as soon as he laid down on the bed.
“I’ll buy you something to eat.” Isabella told him,
“I’m not hungry.” Josh whined.
“At least the baby and I ate at capital, you haven’t eaten anything so far. I’ll be right back.” Isabella insisted.
Isabella went out of the ward and Veronica looked at the six children. Josh was still ill. She couldn’t hold back her tears any longer and didn’t know what else she could do.
Whenever Isabella was around, she didn’t want to show any signs of weakness.
She used to have six children abroad, but she’s not as helpless anymore. She knew about her own capabilities and was not afraid to show it. Showing any signs of weakness was the least suitable role she’d ever give to herself.
Especially when she’s a mother of six children.
That’s why when she shed a few tears, Veronica wiped them away and pretended that nothing had happened.
She then held Josh’s little hand.
“Josh.” Veronica called up to him, trying to get his attention.
Veronica froze for a moment when she saw Julie sit up, rubbing her eyes in the process. The other four children had already slept, so she was confused as to why Julie was the only one awake.
She hurried over to Julie and held her in her arms. “What’s the matter? Josh is resting.”
Veronica sat down and placed Julie on her lap.
Julie felt comfortable in Veronica’s arms. She simply watched Josh sleeping, saying nothing.
After a while, Julie got off Veronica’s lap, stood beside the bed and touched Josh’s face with her tiny, little hand.
Veronica realized that she had been a bad mother. She didn’t know what Julie was thinking, but it occurred to her that Julie and Josh are twins. They were much more sensitive than the rest of the children and they both lean on each other whenever they have their own problems.
Now that Julie wants to sleep and Josh isn’t around to sleep with her, Julie simply missed him.
“Mom, is Josh still in pain?” Julie asked innocently.
“Josh doesn’t feel any pain anymore, Julie. After all, with you around, Josh won’t get sick.”
“Well, if that’s the case, then I’m going to help Josh get better too!” Julie reached out and grabbed Josh’s hand.
Veronica smiled at Julie’s innocence.
The children were so innocent that Veronica had no choice but to stay calm and hope for the best.
After a while, Isabella brought some food with her and fed Josh some food.
Veronica thought about it for a while, but if she books a room in a hotel, she’ll have to show her ID and Nick might trace where she is.
She then concluded that she’d like to live in a place that’s far away from the city.
Now that Josh is sick, Veronica has no choice but to wait until Josh is fully recovered.
And that meant that they had to stay in the capital for a few days.
Veronica never expected the outcome to be so dire for her. She thought that she could finally escape and move as far away as possible, but she just had no choice.
She only hoped that Nick wouldn’t be able to find out that she was still in the capital.
“Thinking of something?” Isabella said as she sat down and took a glance on her phone. Julie was already asleep, and Isabella didn’t have anything else to do.
“Well, we have to find a place to live first.” Veronica mumbled. “Isabella, you can go to bed. I can only sleep in the hospital tonight.” She added.
“Forget it, I want to stay with you and the kids. When Josh is all right, let’s find a place to live by then. When we find a house where we can feel safe in, we can go there together. ” Isabella said.
“Thank you, Isabella.” Veronica smiled, “Come to think of it, you wouldn’t want to leave the capital if it weren’t for me, so I feel really bad for dragging you into this mess.” She added, her voice filled with guilt.
