Veronica knew that she had nothing to take from home and that all her important things were packed delicately in a backpack.
She guessed that Nick must be having doubts at the moment.
Veronica didn’t know how he found out, but she knew that she couldn’t stay one more minute in the capital.
The only thing she could think about was her escape plan and she knew that she had to utilize it as soon as she could.
Veronica’s eyes were filled with panic, which made her hands and feet weak. She only hoped that she would be able to get out of the dire situation she was in soon.
As Nick got into the car, he turned on the phone’s tracking software and found out about Veronica’s location.
“Running away, huh? Seems like you haven’t learned your lesson yet.” He murmured to himself.
The Rolls-Royce car that Nick owned then drove down the road through the Sunshine apartment in search for Veronica.
Nick suddenly found that Veronica’s position had stopped ten minutes ago, which made him anxious. Her position from the map hasn’t moved at all.
Nick furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. The location that Veronica was in wasn’t the location of her house at all. He thought that maybe something unexpected happened.
After the car drove for about five minutes, Nick commanded the car to stop. He then got out of the car.
There was a lot of noise and chaos in front of him.
The guardrail on the side of the road had been smashed. ambulances and rescue teams were then parked on the road in hopes of finding the victims of the tragic accident.
There were men and women crying on the side of the road, who seemed to be relatives of the victims.
Kay Tours, who got off the other side of the car, walked towards Nick and stood beside him. “It looks like a car accident.”
Before Nick could listen to what Kay had to say, He went straight over to the captain of the rescue team at a steady, urgent pace.
“What’s going on?” He told the captain.
The captain was in shock of the whole situation as well, so he subconsciously told Nick what happened during the accident. “In order to avoid being hit, a bus lost control, crashed through the guardrail and fell into the lake.”
Nick took out his phone again to see where Veronica’s location was. When he saw that Veronica’s position was in the lake, his hands began shaking.
Kay was standing next to Nick and saw what had happened, he knew the situation immediately.
“All of you go down and find someone!” Nick coldly told his bodyguards as he became anxious. “Hurry up!”
They were racing against time and Nick was already on the edge.
Not bothering to question Nick’s orders, his bodyguards then grabbed the remaining tools that the rescue team had, took off half of their clothes and jumped into the lake.
The rescuers were shocked.
Nick stood by the guardrail, staring at the lake. He was tense. He had hoped to rescue Veronica immediately.
Kay was simply looking at Nick. He had never seen him like this before.
According to the what the captain of the rescue team said, they’ve fled to the scene fast enough. As long as they could get people up quickly, there was a high chance that they would still be alive.
Veronica, on the other hand, has a locator. Nick expected that she would be found faster than the others.
One of the victim’s relatives grabbed a rescue team member’s shirt, clutching it while crying at the same time. “Will you be able to find my daughter? She’s going to be fine, right?”
“We’ll try our best!” The rescue team member said.
Meanwhile, Kay stood beside Nick to update him on the situation they were in. “There are about 30 people on the bus. I heard that there are also old people and children.”
“Since Veronica has a locator, we’ll be sure to find her soon. ” Key reassured him.
Nick was silent and motionless. He was simply staring at the lake, hoping that they’d find Veronica soon.
“Got them!” One of the rescue team members said.
As Nick looked down, he found that the rescue team saved more than two people. He was starting to feel relieved.
Nick looked around, but he couldn’t find Veronica anywhere, let alone Isabella and the children.
The rescue team did their best to save as much people as possible. Some of them could swim, but some of them also couldn’t. The people who gave signs of life were then rushed to the hospital alongside their relatives.
However, the fact that Nick couldn’t find Veronica made him anxious to the point where he was desperate.
Veronica, who should have been saved in the first place, was nowhere to be found.
The rescue team helped Nick find Veronica, but over time, they still couldn’t find her. Neither could his bodyguards.
Nick was already anxious and on edge. He was having a hard time breathing. He just clenched his fist and hoped that they’d find her.
Bodyguards and rescue teams have scattered all over the place, trying to find her, but she was still nowhere to be found. The victims were already taken away by their families, but Nick just stayed there, staring closely at the lake.
The search went on for hours and it was already getting dark.
Even if they found someone right now, it would be impossible to survive.
The bodyguards were exhausted, but they didn’t stop without Nick’s command.
The captain of the rescue team came towards Nick with a weary expression on his face. “Do you have someone who may still be on the lake?”
Nick didn’t respond to the captain’s question. The expression on his face alone made it clear that he hadn’t found the person he wanted to find.
“It’s not clear how many people there are, but the women and children must be inside the bus.” Kay said.
The captain began to wonder, “Are you sure there were children?”
“When the driver woke up, he said that there were only three children whose lives were out of danger. He also said that all of them have been saved.” The captain added.
Kay didn’t expect that the captain would say the things he just said. He then wondered why only three kids were saved.
“Did Veronica run with the baby?” Kay murmured to himself.
Being able to hide the baby showed that she cared about that baby very much. It was illogical to think that she ran away on her own and left the baby behind.
Nick turned to look at the captain, his eyes flashed a menacing look. “What did you just say?”
Before the captain of the rescue team spoke, one of the bodyguards under the lake shouted, “Mr. Cage, I found something!”
Nick responded to one of his bodyguard’s shout and looked at him. He saw the silver bracelet held by the bodyguard, visible in the dim sky.
When the bodyguard gave Nick the bracelet, everything seemed alright except for the fact that the button was unfastened. The button was specifically made to not fall off randomly unless it was manually unfastened.
Nick turned around and walked towards the car. “Check the surveillance.”
“Yes, Mr. Cage.” Kay told him.
In the Rolls-Royce backseat, Kay had a computer on hand and was tapping the keyboard quickly.
Nick waited for Kay without saying a word.
Kay used a certain kind of network theft technology to intercept surveillance videos all the way from the Sunshine apartment to the lake.
In less than three minutes, Kay told Nick that he had access to the surveillance videos.
Kay then moved the computer screen towards Nick so he could see it clearly.
In the video, They could see Veronica coming out of the subway, then the Sunshine apartment. They could also see six kids, which made Nick confused.
As soon as one scene was done, the video switched to another scene where a taxi arrived on the bridge by the lake where the incident occurred, then suddenly stopped.
The rescue team and the ambulances have just arrived the scene by then.
By that time, Nick saw Veronica get out of the car, run to the guardrail on the side of the road and throw something anonymous into the lake.
Kay paused the video, zoomed in and analyzed what Veronica threw. It was the silver bracelet.
The truth of the situation suddenly slapped Nick back into reality. He felt as though the temperature dropped and the whole world around him suddenly stopped.
Nick felt that it was too much for him to bear.
“Mr. Cage, it looks like Veronica was just passing by when we got to the incident. After such a long time, I’m afraid she already left the capital a long time ago.” Kay said nervously.
