Virginia arrived at Janessa’s hospital room, with Emma following closely behind. Quentin was sitting by Janessa’s bedside.
Charlotte was also present. Although she had touched up her makeup, the scratch marks on her arms and face were still visible.
“Quentin.” Virginia’s tone softened when she saw Quentin, the usually icy CEO now showing a tender side.
Seeing Quentin’s haggard appearance, Virginia couldn’t help but feel a pang of heartache.
“Virginia, why are you here too? And your face?”
Noticing that both Virginia and Charlotte’s faces were scratched like painted cats, Quentin easily guessed they had been fighting.
Virginia reluctantly recounted what had happened between her and Charlotte earlier.
When she mentioned Charlotte and Nash meeting at the hotel, Quentin’s expression darkened. This incident was still a sore spot for him.
“I told you, I didn’t do it! Stop slandering my innocence!”
Charlotte was furious, adamantly defending herself.
“Hah, some people just can’t admit what they’ve done.”
Virginia sneered, giving Charlotte a disdainful look.
“Virginia, you’re asking for it!” Charlotte wanted to strangle Virginia at that moment.
“Come on, let’s fight! Who’s afraid of who?” Virginia was ready to throw down as well.
Seeing the two about to clash again, Emma stepped between them.
“Alright, alright, stop arguing! It’s all my fault! I caused this misunderstanding.”
Emma confessed everything she had done with Nash.
It turned out that when Charlotte couldn’t find her phone, it was because Emma had hidden it while she slept. The messages were fabricated by Emma and Nash. The love letter to Nash was also forged by Emma. The hotel incident was orchestrated by them as well. Nash arranged for a couple to check into the hotel and bribed the front desk to say that Charlotte was in room 520 if anyone asked.
The misunderstanding cleared up, Quentin, Charlotte, and Virginia were stunned.
They realized that their baseless accusations against Charlotte were due to Emma’s actions.
“Mom! How could you do such childish things?”
“Do you know that you not only slandered my innocence but also caused Quentin and Virginia to misunderstand me?”
Charlotte was genuinely angry this time, exasperated by Emma’s actions.
“Mom did it for your own good! Who knew Nash was such a scoundrel? Blame my poor judgment.”
Emma bowed her head in remorse, finally realizing her terrible mistake.
“Mom, stop doing such childish things. I’ll handle my own relationships. Don’t meddle anymore!”
Charlotte had a splitting headache. Emma was her mother; she couldn’t blame her too harshly.
“Quentin, it’s all my fault for causing misunderstandings between you and Charlotte. I’m sorry.”
For the first time, Emma admitted her mistake to Quentin.
She finally understood how much Quentin cared for Charlotte and how much he had silently sacrificed for her while she had been making things difficult for him.
With the misunderstanding cleared up, Quentin couldn’t blame anyone too harshly. He realized that Charlotte had always maintained her innocence and that he had wronged her.
“Mom, it’s okay. Since it’s all in the past now, let’s move on.” Quentin sighed helplessly.
“Quentin, I’m sorry for not believing in you and criticizing you before. But I never did anything to betray you.”
Charlotte’s eyes were red; she had endured so much grievance all this time.
She finally understood how much Quentin cared for her and how much he had silently sacrificed for her.
“Charlotte, I was wrong too. I shouldn’t have doubted your innocence.”
Quentin felt guilty and moved forward to embrace Charlotte, his eyes full of affection.
“You… bad guy!”
Charlotte hugged him tightly, punching his shoulder and burying her head in his chest as tears of relief and grievance streamed down her face.
After going through numerous conflicts and almost ending up in court over custody battles, they finally reconciled at this moment.
Emma felt gratified watching them.
Virginia felt a pang of jealousy and envy towards Charlotte but also a sense of pride. She liked Quentin but couldn’t bring herself to deliberately ruin someone else’s relationship. She wasn’t magnanimous enough to watch them flaunt their love in front of her without feeling anything.
