Soon, a middle-aged man wearing a white coat and gold-rimmed glasses hurried over. He was Edward Gallagher, the chief physician responsible for leukemia.
“Director, what do you need from me?” Edward asked, puzzled.
“Did you stamp this report?” Bryant inquired.
Edward’s eyes flickered as he nodded, feeling a bit panicked. He knew the report was fake, having secretly stamped it after receiving a hefty bribe from Nash.
“I want you to find the person who conducted this test and have it redone. I will review it personally.”
“Mr. Harmon, what do you mean by this? I’ve been here for many years. Do you doubt me?” Edward tried to maintain a firm attitude despite his guilty conscience.
“Mr. Holland requested a retest, so do it. Just do your job and stop talking so much.”
“Hurry up!” Bryant demanded sternly.
Under pressure, Edward had no choice but to comply. After all, Bryant was the director, and he was just a subordinate. He reluctantly dialed the number of the person who conducted the test.
“Hello, Sebastian Duncan, come to the hospital immediately.”
“Dr. Edward, are we preparing for surgery? What about the money you promised me…”
Sebastian was a gambler currently at an underground casino. One day, Edward had approached him with an offer of hundreds of thousands of dollars in exchange for some bone marrow. Desperate for money, he readily agreed.
“You’ll get it when you arrive.”
“Alright, I’m on my way.” Sebastian hung up and rushed to Striudan Hospital, eager for the big payday that would allow him to gamble for another month.
Within ten minutes, Sebastian arrived.
“Come over here.” Bryant led Sebastian to the lab, with Edward following reluctantly.
Quentin and others gathered at the lab door, waiting for the results. Nash prayed silently, looking for an opportunity to escape.
“Edward, personally extract his bone marrow for testing. I will supervise,” Bryant ordered.
“Okay.” Edward had no choice but to comply. He regretted taking Nash’s money to falsify the report; it was bound to be exposed now.
Edward administered anesthesia to Sebastian and inserted the bone marrow extraction needle into his arm. Despite the anesthesia, Sebastian screamed in pain and passed out.
Bryant took the extracted bone marrow and began testing it.
Time seemed to crawl for Edward and Nash, feeling like their judgment day was imminent. Both were drenched in sweat and filled with dread.
Finally, Bryant stopped the test, his calm face turning to anger.
“Edward, how dare you falsify results!”
Terrified, Edward fell to his knees and clutched Bryant’s leg.
“I’m sorry, Director! I know I was wrong. I won’t do it again. Please forgive me!”
Bryant’s anger only intensified at Edward’s plea. Of all people to offend, he had chosen Quentin-a person not to be trifled with!
“Get out! From today on, you’re expelled from this hospital and banned from the medical field!”
Bryant kicked him away and walked out of the lab.
“Mr. Holland, I’m sorry. As you suspected, the test results were indeed fake!”
“It’s my failure in oversight. Fortunately, we discovered it in time. Please punish me!”
“Otherwise, Miss Janessa’s life would have been in grave danger!”
Bryant bowed deeply in apology. If Quentin held him accountable, he would surely lose his position as director.
Everyone present was stunned. They couldn’t believe Nash had orchestrated such a deceitful act, almost fooling everyone.
Thankfully, Quentin had never trusted him; otherwise, the consequences would have been disastrous.
If mismatched bone marrow had been transferred to Janessa, she would have had no chance of survival.
Quentin glared at Nash with murderous intent, ready to tear him apart.
Seeing his scheme exposed, Nash bolted for the exit without looking back-this time he was truly finished!
“Where do you think you’re going?”
Quentin moved like lightning and appeared in front of Nash in an instant, delivering a solid kick to his chest!
