After a long day handling company affairs, Charlotte finally dragged her tired body back home.
“Mom!” Her two children ran happily to her and hugged her.
Seeing her children, Charlotte felt a warmth that eased her exhaustion.
“Janessa and Theo, were you good today when Grandma brought you home?” Charlotte asked as she picked them up.
“Uncle brought us home, and we were very good,” Janessa replied.
“Uncle? Which uncle?” Charlotte looked into the living room and saw Emma, Emery, Rashad, and a man with a face swollen like a pig’s head.
Charlotte found him familiar and, upon closer inspection, recognized him as Nash.
“Nash, what happened to your face?”
Charlotte put down her children and walked over to Nash. Seeing his swollen face, she felt both heartache and the urge to laugh.
“Charlotte, it’s nothing. It’s my fault. Don’t blame Quentin,” Nash said through gritted teeth, holding one side of his face in pain.
He explained what had happened to Charlotte.
“Why is Quentin so impulsive again? Nash, thank you for bringing my children home.”
“Your injuries are severe. Let me take you to the hospital. You shouldn’t suffer like this.”
Charlotte was angry at Quentin for being so rash and worried about Nash’s condition.
“No need, I can handle it myself.”
“Charlotte, you’re already so busy. Don’t waste your time worrying about me.”
Seeing Charlotte’s concern, Nash felt his chances with her were increasing. He believed he would eventually win her heart and trample Quentin underfoot.
“Alright then, but make sure to get it checked out. If necessary, I’ll go with you. I’ll have Quentin come over to apologize properly another day.”
“Charlotte, Nash suffered because of Quentin. You must take good care of him,” Emma chimed in, seizing the opportunity to bring them closer.
“Mom, I will. It’s my fault for not coming back earlier; this wouldn’t have happened otherwise.”
Seeing Charlotte’s worry and guilt, Nash felt smug inside.
“Alright, dinner is ready. Everyone come and eat,” Emma called out.
The family and Nash sat down for dinner together.
“Emma, thank you for preparing such a feast. It’s truly a treat,” Nash said, trying to hide his pain as he ate in small bites.
“Oh Nash, you have such a sweet mouth.”
“If you like it, come over every day. I’ll have Charlotte cook for you too.”
“Our home is your home; we’re all family here.”
Emma was delighted.
“If you say so, I won’t refuse,” Nash replied insincerely, looking at Charlotte with a swollen face that appeared quite comical.
Charlotte smiled politely and continued eating, seemingly distracted.
After dinner, Charlotte stood outside looking at the stars, thinking about the shareholders’ meeting earlier that day.
She urgently needed a large investment to kickstart the company’s development and prove her capabilities.
“Charlotte, is something on your mind?” Nash asked with feigned concern as he approached.
“It’s nothing, just some work issues,” Charlotte replied with a forced smile.
“Why don’t you tell me? Maybe I can help.”
Nash pressed on. Seeing his persistence, Charlotte told him about the bet with Virginia and the shareholders’ meeting.
“No way! Charlotte, you’re a director of Time Group?”
Nash’s expression was one of astonishment. The excitement made his face hurt even more.
If he could win Charlotte over, wouldn’t he gain both power and beauty?
“But getting a large investment in a short time is indeed difficult.”
“However, I might be able to help you with this.”
Nash spoke confidently, giving Charlotte a glimmer of hope.
“Really? Nash, do you have a way?” Charlotte asked expectantly.
“I recently returned from Marblegate Group with some funds. It’s around a billion dollars.”
“The company wanted me to buy Time Group and sell it at a higher price, but I didn’t win the bid that day.”
“Now that you’re a director of Time Group, I can invest part of these funds in your company on behalf of Marblegate. I’ll explain it to them in advance.”
Nash appeared confident. Though outwardly presenting it as an investment, he planned to take over Charlotte’s company eventually.
“But I think I should discuss this with Quentin,” Charlotte hesitated.
“Charlotte, Quentin works so hard for this family. Let him rest and not worry about too many things. Once the company is running smoothly, we can tell him then.”
“And considering the current tension between you two, we should be mindful of Quentin’s feelings.”
Nash pretended to be considerate of Quentin.
“Nash, you’re so thoughtful. Quentin will understand your intentions eventually.”
“Let’s hope for a successful cooperation then. It’s getting late; you should go home and rest.”
“Thank you for today. Remember to see a doctor for your face.”
Charlotte was grateful that Nash could help. She had wanted to discuss it with Quentin but feared he wouldn’t be much help and might cause trouble at the shareholders’ meeting.
“Alright, Charlotte, you rest early too. I’ll head back now. Let’s arrange a time tomorrow to discuss our cooperation.”
“Okay, drive safely.”
After saying goodbye to Charlotte, Nash drove away.
“Heh, Quentin, you useless fool. Just wait. Soon enough, your woman and her company will be mine.”
Nash smirked in the car, his smile both sinister and smug.
