“What do you mean by that?”
“I just used a Taoist secret technique for a simple divination. There is indeed an evil spirit at work here, but it is powerful. I fear, Edgar, that if you go, you might not return,” Priest Parker mocked.
These words were too harsh. Even though Edgar was a monk, he couldn’t tolerate them. His mouth twitched as he glared angrily at Priest Parker. “Whether I return or not is none of your concern. It’s just an evil spirit; I have my own methods to subdue it!”
Seeing Edgar’s anger, Priest Parker smiled. “Edgar’s skills are well-known in the capital, and I admire them greatly. As fellow practitioners, I think we shouldn’t let Edgar face danger alone.”
Priest Parker’s words were clear: Edgar, if you want to eat meat, don’t leave us without even a sip of porridge.
Edgar usually only meditated and chanted scriptures and was not good at dealing with sarcasm. He just glared at Priest Parker and then glanced around, noticing that everyone else was looking at him with unfriendly eyes.
It seemed he had angered the crowd. Edgar silently recited a Buddhist mantra in his heart, realizing that he couldn’t take this business alone today.
The thought made him unhappy. Although a million dollars was a lot, with so many people here, the share each would get would be too little.
He glanced at the woman in front of him and seeing no reaction from her, Edgar sighed. “Fine, since Priest Parker is so concerned about me, how can I act alone?”
“I believe all the masters here see subduing demons as their duty. With more people, we have more strength. Let’s join forces to deal with the evil spirit in this neighborhood.”
Priest Parker stroked his beard and smiled. “Edgar is right. It’s just an evil spirit. If we all act together, it will be easy.”
“In these prosperous times, demons are nearly extinct. It’s rare to encounter one daring enough to harm people. I’ve been practicing for decades and have never seen one. Today is a rare opportunity; I am willing to assist Edgar!” An elderly man in a suit stood up and expressed his willingness to help.
With the elderly man taking the lead, everyone else stood up from their seats, willing to join in the exorcism.
This situation was unexpected for Lana. Since when did these masters become so united?
But thinking about it, she understood. The reward cake was only so big; no matter how much, they had to share a piece. Returning empty-handed was not the style of a master.
As everyone was united in their resolve, a discordant voice rang out. “Masters, I am unworthy and have been practicing for ten years without encountering any demons to hone my Dao Laws.”
“Today is an opportunity not to be missed. Could you let me join you in experiencing demon subjugation?”
The masters turned their heads, their eyes like lightning shooting towards Leo, filled with disdain.
Where did this young man come from? Doesn’t he know his own weight? How dare he come to share the meat? Isn’t he afraid of getting a stomachache?
Lana looked at Leo and sneered inwardly: Let’s see how long you can keep up this act!
Leo walked forward with his hands behind his back, chest out, and smiled. “It seems the masters are unwilling. How about this? I won’t take any reward or participate in your exorcism actions. I’ll just be an observer to admire your skills and demeanor.”
Edgar’s eyes swept over Leo, sensing that this young man was not simple. He asked, “May I ask which sect you belong to?”
Leo thought quickly and replied with a smile, “Edgar, I am a disciple of the Seven Stars Sect.”
Seven Stars Sect?
The masters looked at each other in confusion; they hadn’t heard of it.
Edgar was also puzzled. What kind of sect was Seven Stars Sect? Could this young man be from some hidden sect out for training?
Although suspicious, Edgar wanted to show his knowledge and nodded slightly. “So you’re a disciple of the Seven Stars Sect. Ten years ago, while traveling through famous mountains and rivers, I met a fellow Taoist who was also from the Seven Stars Sect. I didn’t expect to meet another disciple today; it must be fate.”
Leo’s facial muscles stiffened as he looked playfully at Edgar.
“Young friend, as far as I know, the Seven Stars Sect specializes in Numerology and Divination. They don’t seem to be skilled in exorcising demons, correct?” Edgar added.
Leo realized he had underestimated Edgar. Edgar’s words were skillful; he acknowledged Leo’s fabricated identity while reminding others that although this young man had a sect, it wasn’t specialized in exorcism.
In other words, go cool off somewhere else; there’s no meat for you!
Edgar’s clever words left Leo speechless for a moment.
Leo looked at Lana and saw her thoughtful expression.
By now, even the dullest person would realize something was off.
The original demeanor of the masters had suddenly vanished; the contrast was too great.
Could it be that she had invited a bunch of charlatans?
Lana couldn’t believe it. She had confidently taken on this task; she couldn’t afford to mess it up or she’d be packing her bags.
“The master is old and must have remembered wrong. The Seven Stars Sect’s strongest methods are exorcism and disaster relief,” Leo suddenly said.
Priest Parker was about to speak when Leo interrupted him. “Whether I’m telling the truth can be tested.”
“Miss Wagner, lofty discussions won’t solve the problem. Why not take us to the site? If there is indeed an evil spirit, let the masters perform their rituals.”
Lana nodded in agreement and looked at Leo with less dislike.
“Masters, let’s go to the site now. Please follow me,” Lana said, gesturing with her hand.
The masters glared coldly at Leo before following Lana out.
Soon, they arrived outside a detached villa on the north side.
This villa had the best location in the entire neighborhood. There was a mountain behind it and an artificial lake in front of it, making it a picturesque spot with excellent greenery.
The group stopped in front of the villa, and the masters began to spread out, pretending to observe the feng shui.
Leo walked to the left side of the villa and extended his spiritual sense.
Under his spiritual sense, he could see wisps of yellowish aura lingering everywhere.
The source of the aura was behind the villa, continuously spreading in all directions.
