Chapter 151
~ A fight for justice. ~
Megan’s POV:
I sit in my cell, my heart sinking as I am summoned to see the detective.
“Exactly, what I have been searching for!” I said as I dashed off quickly.
Detective James sitting quietly in his desk, looks up and delivers the news.
“What do you mean no one wants to listen to you?” I ask, my voice laced with concern.
He sighs, rubbing his temples.
“I mean, the… the judge, they are all resistant to reopening the case. They think we have got enough evidence to convict you, and they don’t want to hear otherwise.” Detective James revealed.
I feel a surge of frustration and despair.
“But that’s not fair! I know I’m innocent, and you believe me too. Why won’t they listen?” I say.
Detective James shakes his head.
“It’s not about fairness, Megan. It’s about politics and power. They don’t want to admit they made a mistake, and they’re willing to do whatever it takes to keep the case closed.” He explains
I slam my fist on the table, anger and desperation welling up inside me.
“That’s not justice! That’s a cover-up!” I tell him.
Detective James places a hand on my shoulder, his eyes filled with empathy.
“I know, Megan. I’m sorry. But I’m not giving up. I’ll keep fighting for you, no matter what it takes.” He continues.
I sighed silently then I looked up to the detective.
“I sense a foul play somewhere; I do not think they are telling you the truth.” Detective looked at me like he wanted a lot of information.
“Have you ever thought of this? What if the syndicate as bought everyone over?” I asks.
“Everyone? Oh no, Megan! It definitely cannot be everyone!” He debunks.
I say, convinced.
“Then, probably they have gotten the large chunk of the authority on their sides!” I say rolling my eyes.
Detective James leans in like he has gotten a chunk of good ideas.
“But that can only be a faction you know, that must always be an incorruptible one, you know!” He tells me.
“That is where we’ll definitely get the help that we need!” He tells me and I leave.
I am in my cell pacing through and from after detective says he needs to go back and search for who is willing to help.
“Oh God, oh God, oh God.” I thought.
“What if Detective James can’t get the help he needs? What if he’s too late? What if I’m stuck in here forever, accused of a crime I didn’t commit?” I had thoughts running through my mind.
I cannot even begin to wrap my head around it.
One day I am living my life, being a celebrity, paying my bills and being happy… and the next, I am in here, facing God knows what.
I stopped pacing and leaned against the wall, despair washing over me.
I felt so alone. So scared. I don’t know what is going on or what is going to happen next.
“I don’t know what evidence they have against me because all they’ve gotten against me are just lies.” I say.
“But I know is that am innocent. But will anyone believe me?” I said out loud as I looked down at my hands, shaking my head.
“I keep thinking about my life outside these walls. Is it all gone now? Am I going to lose everything because of some mistake? Some false accusation?” I continued.
“No, it can’t be.” I looked up, a glimmer of hope in my eyes.
“Detective James believes me. He’s the only one who does for now. He’s the only one who’s listened to me, who’s tried to help me. But what if he can’t prove it? What if he can’t get the help he needs? What if…” I thought as I noticed the warden had her eyes on me.
“At least, someone hears my pain!” I muttered quietly as shook my head, trying to push the thoughts away.
“No. No, no, no. I can’t think like that. I have to hold on to hope. I have to believe that Detective James will come through for me. That he’ll find a way to prove my innocence. I took a deep breath, determination in my voice, I say.
“I will not give up. I will not lose hope. I will fight for my freedom, no matter what it takes. I will not let this destroy me. I will rise above it. I will prove my innocence, and I will make sure that justice is served.” I said out loud and fell into the bed.
“And it’s not just about me. It’s about Chris too. He’s innocent. And he’s suffering in there.
I clenched my fists as my mind raced fast.
I can’t bear the thought of him in that cold, dark cell. I can’t bear the thought of him being treated like a criminal, when he’s done nothing wrong. He’s a good person. He doesn’t deserve this.
But I know he’s strong. I know he’s fighting too. And I know that together, we can do this. We can overcome this.
I know detective James is doing his best. But we need to do more. We need to fight harder. We need to push for answers, for truth.
I know it won’t be easy. I know it won’t be quick. But I’m willing to fight. I’m willing to fight for myself, for Chris, and for justice.
I’m willing to do whatever it takes. I’m willing to testify, to cooperate, to do whatever is necessary to bring the syndicate down.
Let’s do this, Detective James. Let’s take down the syndicate, and let’s get our lives back. Let’s prove our innocence, and let’s bring justice to those who have wronged us.
We can do this. We can win this. We just have to keep fighting. We have to keep pushing forward, no matter what.
I never thought I’d be in a situation like this. I never thought I’d be fighting for my freedom, for my life. But here I am. And you know what? I’m not going to let it break me. I’m not going to let it defeat me.
No, I’m going to use it. I’m going to use this experience to make me stronger. To make me fight harder. To make me appreciate the little things in life, like freedom, like justice, like truth.
“So, let’s do this, Detective James. Let’s fight for our lives. Let’s fight for our freedom. Let’s fight for justice.” I said staring into space.
