Chapter 150
Justice in the air
Megan’s POV:
I am back and everyone around was glad to see me.
Then, I realized that I was surrounded by the stark walls and cold steel bars, I can’t help but feel a sense of surprise and gratitude at the unexpected friendships
I have formed during my time here. Women from all walks of life, some of whom are even fans, have reached out to me with kindness, support, and understanding.
We bond over our shared experiences, our struggles, and our hopes for a better future.
We share stories, laughter, and tears, and we find solace in each other’s company. They look up to me as a role model, and I’m humbled by their admiration.
Together, we form a makeshift community, a support system that helps us navigate the harsh realities of life behind bars.
We offer each other advice, encouragement, and a sense of belonging in a place where it’s easy to feel lost and alone.
As I look around at the faces of my friends, I realize that even in the darkest of places, there is always hope, always a chance for connection and redemption. And for that, I am truly grateful.
But now, it is time to get justice and went straight to the warden.
I approach the warden’s desk, my heart pounding in my chest. I lean in close, my voice barely audible over the din of the prison.
“Warden, I need to see Detective James,” I whisper urgently.
The warden looks up at me, a hint of curiosity in her eyes.
“What’s this about, Megan?” she asks, her voice firm but intrigued.
I glance around nervously, making sure no one is listening in.
“I have information about my case,” I whisper.
“Information that could change everything.” I told her.
The warden raises an eyebrow. “Go on.”
I take a deep breath, my words tumbling out in a rush.
“I have evidence, Warden. Evidence that proves my innocence. And I think Detective James is the only one who can help me now.” I said.
The warden’s expression turns thoughtful, and she nods slowly.
“I’ll arrange for him to come see you. But be warned, Megan, this is your last chance. If this is some kind of trick…” She warns.
I shake my head, my eyes locked onto hers. “It’s not a trick, Warden. I promise. This is the truth.”
I was granted permission and I walked into detective James’s office as I looked on.
“I was told that you’ve got evidence, Megan!” He says.
“Evidence?” Detective James’s eyes widen as I suddenly slam my fists on the table, my face red with anger.
“You want to talk about evidence? You threw me in here without any concrete evidence! You ruined my life, my reputation, everything!” I shout, my voice echoing off the walls
I leap to my feet, my eyes blazing with fury.
“How could you do that? How could you just assume I was guilty without even investigating properly?” I asks.
Detective James takes a step back, his hands raised in a calming gesture.
“Megan, please understand” he says
But I’m not having it.
“No, you understand!” I interrupt, my voice trembling with rage.
“You understand that I have been sitting in this cell for months, innocent, while the real culprit is still out there! You understand that you’ve destroyed my life!” I went on.
I’m shaking with anger, my heart racing with betrayal.
“You were supposed to be a detective, not a judge and jury! You were supposed to find the truth, not just assume it!” I continue.
The room falls silent, the only sound my heavy breathing. Detective James looks at me, his eyes filled with a mix of guilt and regret.
“Megan, I…” He says.
I gaze at Detective James, my eyes blazing with a fierce intensity.
“It’s game up now,” I declare, my voice firm and resolute.
“No more lies, no more deceit. The truth is finally coming to light, and you can’t stop it.” I tell him.
I take a step closer, my eyes locked onto his. “You thought you had me cornered, but you were wrong. I’ve been playing a long game, gathering evidence, gathering allies. And now, it’s time to reveal the truth.” I say
I smile, a cold, calculated smile.
“You see, Detective, I’ve been waiting for this moment. I’ve been waiting for you to realize that you’ve been played. That you’ve been chasing a ghost, a shadow of a person who never existed.” I reveal.
I lean in, my voice dropping to a whisper. “And now, it’s time to face the music. It’s time to face the truth.”
Detective James’s expression crumbles, his eyes filling with regret and sadness.
He looks at me with a deep sense of remorse, his voice barely above a whisper.
“Megan, I’m so sorry. I was so blinded by the evidence, by my own assumptions. I never meant to hurt you, to ruin your life.” He says.
He shakes his head, his eyes cast downward.
“I’ve been a detective for years, but I’ve never made a mistake like this. I’ve never wrongly accused someone, never ruined an innocent life.”
He looks up at me, his eyes pleading for forgiveness. “Can you ever forgive me, Megan? Can you ever trust me again?”
I see the genuine remorse in his eyes, the weight of his guilt. And in that moment, I feel a sense of pity for him, a sense of understanding.
“We’ve both been played, Detective,” I say softly.
“We’ve both been victims of a larger game.” I tell him.
I take a deep breath, my voice firm but gentle.
“Let’s work together to uncover the truth, to bring the real culprit to justice. And then, maybe, we can both find some measure of redemption.” I urge.
“I want to appear in court,” I declare, my voice firm and resolute.
“I want to reveal everything, to tell the truth about what really happened. I want to clear my name, and I want to make sure that the person who did this is held accountable.” I say.
“I want to show the world that I’m not a criminal, that I’m a victim of circumstance and deception.” I reveal.
Detective James nods, a look of determination on his face.
“I’ll make sure that happens, Megan. I’ll do everything in my power to support you. We’ll gather all the evidence, we’ll build a strong case, and we’ll make sure that justice is served.” He assured me.
I take a deep breath, feeling a sense of relief wash over me.
Finally, after all these months, I’ll be able to tell my side of the story. Finally, I’ll be able to prove my innocence and show the world that I’m not the person they thought I was.
“Let’s do it,” I say, my voice firm. “Let’s go to court and reveal the truth.
Detective James nods, a small smile on his face. “Let’s do it,” he says. “Let’s get justice for you, and let’s bring the real culprit to light. Let’s make them pay for what they’ve done to you.”
I nod, feeling a sense of determination and resolve. I’m ready to face the court, ready to face the truth, ready to clear my name and start anew.
