Gabriella’s POV
“We’re sorry, Luna, but the Alpha gave us strict orders not to let anyone in, including you. We apologize, but we’ll inform him that you came to see him,” one of the guards responded.
“You all will regret stopping me.” I left angrily for the garden, trying to think. The interrogation will begin in the next hour, and I can’t go in there with the division Nicklaus and I have right now. What do I do now?
“Mom,” Estella hugged me from behind, looking as beautiful as a flower. The maids must have done a great job on her for her to resemble the queen of roses.
“My little pumpkin, how are you? I’m sorry I failed to check on you. How are you adjusting to being here?” I asked, wearing a smile so she wouldn’t notice.
“I love it here, Mom, even though I miss some of my friends from the witches’ tribe.”
“Don’t worry, one of these days we’ll pay them a visit.”
“Mom, did something bad happen to you? You have a cut close to your lips,” she said, looking worried.
“Oh, you mean this? I fell, that’s all. Nothing serious, so you don’t have to worry about me.”
“Stop giving me that look. I’m perfectly okay, my beautiful daughter.”
“If you say so, Mom, but what about the bruises on your body?”
“Oh, that… Well, I fell, but that’s not important right now. I need you to tell me the names of your new friends and what you do for fun. Then I’ll make dinner for you myself tonight. What do you think about that?”
“I’ll tell you their names, but I’d prefer it if Dad makes dinner for me instead of you. I love his cooking more.”
“Silly girl, choosing your father over me. I’m so jealous right now,” I said, tickling her, and she burst into laughter. “It’s the truth, Mom. Dad is great in the kitchen, and I think you could learn from him.”
“You’re in for it now, little one. Choosing Dad over me. I guess you should have him tell you bedtime stories too.” We both felt happy and laughed until we sat down on the ground, still smiling at each other. I looked at my little girl; she’s growing up so fast. I hope she meets her wolf early and doesn’t end up like me, unable to shift into one. I’ll also make sure Nicklaus and I shower her with the love my father failed to show me while growing up. I won’t let anyone bully her, and she’ll have the best of everything as her mother.
“Daddy,” she said, standing up to hug him. Lost in my thoughts, I didn’t realize he had been standing here all this time.
Nicklaus’s POV
“Should I believe her or my people?” Stiles explained, “You’re lying. We all recognize you. You came to meet us and told us that Luna asked you to serve us some food and drinks. After we finished eating, we fell asleep because you drugged it. That’s how you put Luna in danger.” I know Stiles well; there’s no way he’d make up stories.
“There must be a mix-up somewhere. The person we should be after is the new lady who had breakfast with me. She challenged me, and I’m sure she’s the one who drugged you, not my good friend here,” Gabby said, her tone serious. I guess I was careless to allow anyone to eat with her. I’m relieved she’s not dead, so I won’t let that happen again.
“You mean you had breakfast with a new person?”
“We’re investigating everything this morning. Get me the ladies who spent time with my wife yesterday. Let’s meet in my office.”
“Yes, Alpha.”
“Mateo, keep Jessica with you. Darling, let’s go in. We need to talk as leaders,” I concluded. I know discussions like this need caution. I need time alone with my Luna.
Entering, my mind was already racing with thoughts. I ended up wondering, what if?
Sitting down, I opened up to my mate, “What if Jessica is the evil one here? She always knows when we’re in danger and helps. What if she’s doing all this to get closer to us?”
“She means no harm. If she wanted to kill us, she would’ve done it a long time ago. We need to be careful with our decisions. She knows we’re in danger because she saw a vision,” she said, touching my shoulder. I could tell she’s emotional.
“Gabriella, let’s not be emotional. We can’t decide based on our feelings, or we’ll endanger everyone. I’ll interrogate the ladies and those present. If all signs point to her, I’ll have to lock her up and question her.”
“I’m not acting emotionally. You’re taking things too far, Klaus.”
“What do you mean?” I was getting irritated, trying not to hurt her.
“Consider the facts. She’s a witch; they have visions. She saw one and saved your life. If she hadn’t, would you be standing here? Could you protect everyone?”
“You’re not helping. I need some air. See you at the office, so you can understand the sacrifices a leader makes.”
I left, heading straight to a private room. I ordered no one, including Gabriella, to enter. I only sent for Mateo.
“Mateo, do you believe Jessica?”
