“Aubree, don’t worry. From now on, Uncle will protect you,” Quentin said, looking at the pale little girl with a heart full of pity.
She was so young and already had to endure such fear. It was truly pitiful. Although Riya, as a mother, loved Aubree dearly, there were still areas where her care fell short. After all, the sense of security a father provides is irreplaceable.
Aubree’s eyes widened with hope. “Uncle, can you be my dad?”
“Ah?” Both Quentin and Riya looked embarrassed upon hearing this.
“Aubree, don’t say such things!” Riya admonished.
Aubree huffed, “I’m not saying anything wrong. The book says that a dad is every child’s hero. Uncle is my hero, so why can’t I call him Dad?”
Quentin chuckled and said, “Alright, from now on, Aubree, you are my goddaughter. You can call me Godfather. If anyone dares to bully you, you tell your Godfather, okay?”
“Okay!” Aubree agreed enthusiastically.
For some reason, Riya breathed a sigh of relief. She had been worried that Aubree’s words might distance Quentin from them. But it seemed Quentin didn’t take the child’s innocent words to heart.
She looked at Quentin apologetically. “I’m sorry, Quentin. Children don’t know any better…”
“It’s fine. Aubree is so adorable. What’s wrong with having an extra goddaughter?” Quentin said affectionately, patting Aubree’s head.
Pierce was furious. Here he was with a broken leg, almost passing out from the pain, and these people were chatting and laughing as if nothing had happened.
He felt deeply humiliated.
“Will this cause you any trouble?” Riya asked.
“He’s just trash, no threat at all,” Quentin replied calmly. “Don’t be afraid of him.”
Riya nodded, fully trusting Quentin now. Even if the people behind Pierce came, so what? They would still have to bow down.
“I’ve already called for the people behind this guy to come over. Today, we’ll deal with them all at once. We’ll beat them so badly that they won’t dare to bother you again,” Quentin declared.
Pierce sneered, “Just wait! My brother-in-law has been in the underworld for twenty years. Do you think he’d be afraid of someone like you?”
“You really think we’re scared of you?” Pierce said disdainfully.
His brother-in-law already knew where he was. Once he arrived, it would be Quentin’s end. Pierce was determined to make Quentin pay a hundredfold for the pain he had suffered.
Time passed slowly… Pierce felt tormented.
Why hadn’t his brother-in-law arrived yet?
Just as he was about to break down, the elevator doors suddenly lit up!
A man in a suit stepped out, his face dark with anger. It was Patrick! He was followed by several tense-looking men.
“Patrick!” Pierce cried out in relief, tears streaming down his face. “Patrick, you have to get justice for me!”
“Look at my leg; it’s broken. My ribs are fractured too. I can’t even move lying here. It’s so miserable…”
Patrick gritted his teeth. “You idiot! If you’re so hurt, how do you still have the strength to talk? Why don’t you just say you’re dying? Useless fool! You’ve caused me so much trouble!”
Pierce fell silent under Patrick’s scolding. He knew that although his brother-in-law spoke harshly, he would still help him.
Next, he waited for Quentin to get beaten up.
Hearing the commotion outside, Quentin strode out of the room confidently.
He lit a cigarette and looked across at Patrick with a hint of coldness in his voice. “Who is this guy’s brother-in-law?”
