Sophia’s POV
The next morning, I woke up with a sense of dread that had settled deep within me. The events of the previous day, the bombing of the Wolf Hunter Organization’s headquarters, and the uncertainty of Alexander’s safety weighed heavily on my mind. I reached for my phone, my heart pounding in my chest, hoping for a message or some news that would ease my worry.
But as I checked my phone, there was nothing-no missed calls, no messages, no updates. I knew that Alexander was involved in a dangerous mission, and I couldn’t bring myself to call him and potentially jeopardize his safety. Instead, I decided to call Tyler, hoping that he might have some information.
As I dialed Tyler’s number, my hands trembled with anticipation. The phone rang, and with each ring, my anxiety grew. Then, to my relief, Tyler answered.
“Sophia,” I greeted him, my voice filled with worry. “Where are you? Why haven’t you been answering my calls?”
Tyler’s voice sounded hoarse, and I could hear exhaustion in his tone. “I’m sorry, Sophia,” he said, his voice strained. “Jake and I have been dealing with the Rogues all night. We’re at the hospital now.”
Relief washed over me at the sound of his voice, but my concern for their safety remained. “Are you okay? What happened?”
Tyler sighed heavily before explaining, “The explosion at the headquarters was devastating. We lost a lot of good people, but about half of our members survived. Some of us had consumed an experimental potion that allows our bodies to recover even from severe injuries, as long as our heads aren’t blown off.”
The mention of heads being blown off sent a shiver down my spine, and I let out a heavy sigh. “I can’t imagine how terrifying that must have been. Are you sure you’re alright?”
Tyler’s voice softened, his tone reassuring. “We’ll be fine, Sophia. The surviving Wolf Hunters have initiated countermeasures, and we’re regrouping. Last night, Jake and I were assigned a mission to ambush a faction of the Rogues, but they proved to be cunning. We narrowly escaped being surrounded.”
I listened intently, my heart aching for the dangerous situations they had faced. “And then what happened?”
Tyler’s voice grew somewhat more relaxed as he continued, “Strangely, during the confrontation, another faction appeared, seemingly also enemies of the Rogues. They assisted us and helped us escape. It was unexpected, but they greatly aided us.”
My heart skipped a beat at the mention of this mysterious faction. I couldn’t help but think of Alexander and his involvement in the ongoing conflict. “Another faction?” I asked, my voice trembling. “Did you find out who they were?”
There was a brief pause on the other end of the line before Tyler responded, his voice tinged with uncertainty. “I wish I could say, Sophia, but during the confrontation, I was seriously injured, and my vision was blurred. I couldn’t get a clear look at their faces.”
My heart sank at his words, the hope that had sparked in me dimming slightly. I had hoped that this mysterious faction might be the werewolves from the Shadow City, that they might be connected to Alexander. “But do you have any sense of who their leader might be?” I asked, my voice almost pleading.
Tyler hesitated for a moment, as if searching his memory. “It’s hard to say for sure, but something about their leader did seem familiar. I can’t place it, though.”
My breath caught in my throat as I considered his words. It couldn’t be a coincidence. “Tyler, I believe that faction is likely the werewolves from the Shadow City,” I said, my voice filled with conviction. “I visited Alexander yesterday, hoping he could help us after the explosion at Harborview Corporate Center…”
There was a pause on the other end of the line, and I could sense Tyler processing the information. “Sophia, I… I didn’t expect Alexander to be willing to help the Wolf Hunters,” he admitted. “But if it’s true, if he and his group are indeed the ones who came to our aid last night, then we owe them a debt of gratitude.”
Tears welled up in my eyes as I felt a swell of pride and love for Alexander. “He’s a remarkable person,” I said, my voice filled with emotion. “And I have faith that he’ll do everything he can to help you and the Wolf Hunters.”
Tyler’s voice softened, and I could hear the gratitude in his tone. “Thank you, Sophia. Your words mean a lot to me, especially in this difficult time. We’ll continue to fight, and I’ll do my best to ensure Jake and I return safely.”
I nodded, even though he couldn’t see me. “Please take care of yourselves, Tyler. We’ll be waiting for you, and I’ll be praying for your safety.”
As we ended the call, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of hope. The knowledge that Alexander and his group were involved in the fight against the Rogues filled me with a renewed sense of confidence. I knew that they had the strength and determination to make a difference.
But as the day stretched on, my worry for Alexander and the ongoing conflict only grew. I couldn’t shake the fear that lingered in the back of my mind, the fear of what dangers he might be facing and whether he would come back to us unharmed.
I longed for the moment when he would return home, when I could hold him in my arms and know that he was safe. Until then, all I could do was have faith, wait, and hope for the best.
