Sophia’s POV
As the hospital looms into view, Ethan skillfully navigates through the busy streets, his focus unwavering. We pull up to the emergency entrance, and in a whirlwind of activity, medical staff rush to my aid.
I’m swiftly whisked away on a stretcher, reluctantly releasing Alexander’s hand. His gaze follows me and I can see the concern in them, until I disappear behind the emergency doors.
Inside the room, a team of medical professionals surrounds me, and my head sways due to being surrounded, the several figures blurring my senses.
“Ma’am, how do you feel? Any pains?” One of the female doctors asks as she leans toward me.
I am about to tell her I feel okay as the pain had subsided even before we got to the hospital. But just then, I feel a sharp pain from the side of my stomach and in mere seconds, it feels as if the baby in my stomach is hitting the inside of my stomach to burst out.
I scream and grab her hand tightly as she quickly reaches out to pat me. Probably due to hearing my scream, I hear Alexander’s voice from outside the door.
He thunders, “Why is she screaming like that? What happened to her?”
The doctor seems to be trying to stop him from coming in and there is a lot of noise. The pain is making my head swim and hearing so much noise does not help either. But I still feel at ease hearing his voice and knowing he is near.
The doctor tries to calm me down while simultaneously addressing Alexander’s concerns. “Mr. Williams, please understand that labor can be an intense and painful process. Your wife is experiencing the natural progression of childbirth. We are doing everything we can to ensure her comfort and safety.”
The female doctor soon returns and she begins to tell me what to do next and how to push and not close my thighs. I squeeze the doctor’s hand tightly, my knuckles turning white, as another wave of pain crashes over me. I hear her voice urging me to push, to channel my strength.
“Push, Sophia! You’re doing great!” the doctor encourages me.
I feel very weak and I can barely summon any strength. I know I need to do better and I can still hear the doctor trying to encourage me but for some reason, it feels hard.
My eyes swim with tears from all the pain and at this moment, my thoughts drift to my parents. How I wish my mom was present… If she was, she would have petted me and encouraged me.
I grit my teeth, summoning every ounce of energy within me. With each contraction, I push with all my might, guided by the doctor’s instructions and fueled by the love and support I feel from Alexander’s presence just beyond the door.
The room feels like a whirlwind of chaos, with nurses bustling around, monitoring my vital signs and preparing for the imminent arrival of our baby. But amidst the commotion, I can still discern Alexander’s voice, shouting my name, urging me to stay strong.
I push through the pain, feeling the incredible pressure building. I can hear the doctor’s voice growing more urgent as she guides me through each stage of labor. Sweat beads on my forehead, my body trembling with exertion, but I remain determined to bring our child into the world.
And then, in a moment that feels both eternal and fleeting, I feel a surge of relief wash over me as the doctor announces, “I can see the head! Keep pushing, Sophia!”
With renewed determination, I push one final time, feeling an incredible sense of release as our baby is born into the world. The room fills with the sound of a newborn’s cry, a beautiful melody that reverberates through my heart.
I feel relief and I’m about to relax when suddenly, I hear the doctor exclaim, “No, don’t relax. We’ve got one more in there.”
My eyes widen and I feel my voice creak as I exclaim back, “What?” How is that possible? When I did the scan, it only showed one baby. How is it possible there was one more in there?
The doctor looks at me. “Go on, push. Don’t let your thighs close on the child.”
The pain resurges, and with newfound determination, I gather my strength and push once again. The room is filled with a mix of anticipation and urgency as the medical team prepares for the arrival of the second baby.
Her voice echoes in my ears, urging me on. “You can do this, Sophia. We’re almost there.”
Through the haze of pain and exhaustion, I push with every ounce of strength left in me. It feels as if time stands still, and the room is filled with palpable tension. And then, with one final push, the second baby is born, filling the air with another cry.
Tears stream down my face as I catch my breath, overwhelmed. I collapse back onto the bed, breathless and overwhelmed with emotions. The doctor was still around and when I looked up, I saw her raise the two children up in front of my eyes.
“Congratulations, you have given birth to a pair of twins.”
I can tell it is meant to be a joyful moment, considering the smile on the doctor’s face. But when I see the two figures she is holding, I am left unable to speak.
The two babies have too much hair on their bodies and on their heads was… What is that? My eyes widen as I take another look.
The babies have wolf ears growing on their heads. Both of them have brown, curly and tiny ears on each side of their ear. I am unable to react and I have a hard time processing what is going on.
“What are those?” I ask the doctor.
She looks surprised by my question and look at the two figures in her hands before returning her gaze to me.
And then, she says the most shocking thing ever, “They are your children.”
My grip slackens and I feel the world sway around him. All I can tell is that my head is swimming and before I know it, I feel like my consciousness is leaving me.
I guess the shock to know that the two wolf babies are mine is what did it.
As my eyes close, I hear the doctor screaming my name, the door opening with a bang revealing a tall figure which I am very familiar with Alexander…
I want to call out to him. I want to ask him how it is possible that the children are wolf babies. But for some reason, I realize it is why he always seems so suspicious and secretive.
He reaches my side and I faint in his arms.
