Sophia’s POV
Shakily, I dial Alexander’s number and wait anxiously as it rings. When he finally answers, his voice is filled with concern.
“Sophia, why haven’t you called? I’ve been worried sick,” he says, his worry palpable even over the phone. “What’s been going on?”
I take a deep breath, trying to steady my voice. “I’m sorry, Alexander. I’ve been dealing with my roommates. They didn’t totally buy my excuse but they seem to have suspended their suspicions for now.
His voice softens, and I can sense the relief in his tone. “Oh, I was so worried. Are you okay now? Do we need to meet up? How do you feel?”
I appreciate his concern, but there’s something more significant that I need to share with him. Gathering my courage, I blurt out, “Actually, there’s something else. The pregnancy test came back positive. I’m pregnant.”
There’s a brief silence on the other end of the line, and then I hear Alexander’s voice once again. “Really?”
I nod. “Yeah. We can still have a few more tests to confirm but I’m sure.”
He doesn’t jump in joy or shout but I can tell he is happy with the news considering how his voice now seems lighthearted.
He replies, “We can have a few more tests tomorrow. Come over to my place.”
That seems more plausible considering how much of a hindrance my roomies are so I nodded. “Sure, that seems fine.”
Curiosity takes hold of me, and I can’t help but ask Alexander, “Are you really happy about this? I mean, it’s unexpected, and I know it changes things for both of us.”
He chuckles softly, and his voice exudes warmth. “I am.”
He doesn’t say anything other than that but anyway, I can tell he seems happy. But I am unable to figure out if it is because of the pregnancy or just because of his promise to his grandfather.
It is then I realize I don’t seem to really know Alexander. He did explain he promised his grandfather he would have a child but isn’t it a little far-fetched for his grandfather to have him give birth but not get married? It would seem normal if he is from a very wealthy family just like it would be like in novels.
But I had believed he was just an ordinary man with a good job at hand since he lived in an estate. I mean, don’t rich second-generation men live in mansions?
“Sophia?” I hear him say, jolting me back to my senses.
“Huh?”
“I asked you a question.”
“Ah… sorry.” I scratch my head, returning to my senses. Anyway, our deal was for me to help him give birth and he would support me financially. I better just stick to that.
After we hang up, I sit there, reflecting on the rollercoaster of emotions I’ve experienced. There’s still a part of me that feels scared and uncertain, but there’s also a growing sense of excitement and hope.
Alexander’s POV:
Leaving Sophia’s apartment, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions. The anger from overhearing the conversation between Sophia, Tyler, and Jake lingers within me. How dare they doubt my intentions and question my presence in Sophia’s life? But beneath the anger, there’s a sense of amusement, almost wanting to laugh at the situation. Being called an “uncle” by Sophia was unexpected and quite comical.
As I walk towards my car, their words replay in my mind. Sophia’s attempts to explain the pregnancy test and my presence in her life didn’t fully convince her roommates. They seemed to have their doubts and suspicions. Their protective nature towards Sophia triggers a possessive instinct within me. I can’t allow other men to interfere with the birth of this child or cast doubts on our relationship.
I quickly reach my car and get inside, feeling a surge of determination. I pull out my phone and dial my assistant’s number.
“Ethan, I need you to investigate Jake and Tyler discreetly,” I instruct him. “I want to know more about their backgrounds and their true intentions towards Sophia. Something doesn’t sit right with me.”
“Understood, Mr. Alexander,” Ethan replies. “Consider it done. I’ll gather as much information as I can and keep you updated on any significant findings.”
I need to know more about them, their backgrounds, and their true intentions towards Sophia. Their skepticism and questions have ignited my protective instincts, and I won’t rest until I have a clear understanding of who they are.
As I wait for my assistant’s confirmation, I can’t help but reflect on my own actions and the distance Sophia has maintained. I ponder the possibility that her roommates might know more about our connection than they let on.
My thoughts are interrupted as my phone vibrates with a message from my assistant. I quickly read through the initial findings-Jake and Tyler are indeed more than just roommates.
Just then, my phone blares loudly, and I pick it up seeing her name on the caller ID. I quickly answered the call and put the phone beside my ears.
“Sophia, why haven’t you called? I’ve been worried sick,” I say, my concern pouring through the phone.
“I’m sorry, Alexander. I’ve been dealing with my roommates. They didn’t totally buy my excuse, but they seem to have suspended their suspicions for now,” she replies, her voice shaky.
Relief washes over me, knowing that she’s safe for the moment. “Are you okay now? Do we need to meet up? How do you feel?” I ask, my worry evident.
Sophia takes a deep breath, and I can sense her gathering her courage. “Actually, there’s something else. The pregnancy test came back positive. I’m pregnant.”
“Really?”
I am genuinely happy and in disbelief for a moment. At first, I couldn’t figure out why I felt so happy about the child. After all, it is my grandfather’s wish for me to have one, and since it doesn’t hurt to indeed have a kid, I decided to have one.
But for some reason, I feel genuinely happy about the news.
“Sophia, let’s visit the doctor together tomorrow. We’ll get more information and guidance on the pregnancy.”
The relief in her voice is palpable as she agrees. I understood she was not familiar with such a situation, so I decided to give her time to get used to it.
“Let me prepare some things,” I say. “Have some rest.”
“Okay,” she responds before hanging up.
After the call ends, I look at my blank phone quietly, unable to believe the situation, too. But I’m satisfied. It seems the doctor was right when she said Sophia was perfect for the job.
I turn on the ignition and step on the accelerator to go back to the mansion. I need to prepare myself and get ready to inform Gramps about it before the next pack meeting.
