Nicklaus’s POV
I revisited the club where I held my masquerade party and sat down at the very spot where I had talked with Gabriella. Her innocent smile and how she handled everything played in my head, making my heart joyful. The memory of the spot where we danced and the first time we kissed also resurfaced. I can’t believe I ruined my chances of being with her. What should I do now? I walked into the exact room where we had slept together. I had made sure that room became my private spot, and no one was allowed to spend a night there.
I believe I can prove things. If Tracy truly is the girl I had a nightstand with, she should be able to tell me what happened that night. If she can’t, then I guess I’ll have to open up to her. Maybe she will understand and finally accept the divorce without any issues. At least she will want her twin sister to be happy. They aren’t really identical, but they do have a quiet resemblance.
After returning home, I had a talk with her. “So, are you back to being my husband? Should we continue this long-distance relationship, or are you here to put an end to it?”
“What kind of question is that? I’ve already told you that I’m ending this marriage. So, come with me. There’s a place I need to take you to,” I ordered her.
“I won’t agree to a divorce if you refuse to tell me the actual reason. We were supposed to make love last night, but you left and then returned this morning without informing me. If I hadn’t met up with you, you probably would have left me divorce papers, right?”
I could see that she was hurt. I had caused this, and I needed to fix it. “So, you know, but you brought this upon yourself,” Tracy accused me as usual.
“I understand. I’m working to correct this mistake,” I replied to her.
“Just pray that when we find our mates, she’ll forgive us and accept us back into her life. And also pray that her sister doesn’t hold any grudges after you divorce her. If she does, you know there might be a war.”
“No way. I’ll make sure there won’t be any war. It’s the same settlement if I end up with his younger daughter, provided I marry from the same family.”
“Did you even hear what I’ve been saying?” Tracy questioned, and I nodded. I couldn’t believe I had gotten carried away listening to Lethal and had forgotten that I was having a meal with my soon-to-be ex-wife.
“What were you saying?”
“The reason you’re ending this marriage.”
“Yes, just give me a few minutes, and I’ll tell you when we get to the place.”
A few moments later, I took her to the location and asked her, “Have you ever been to this place?” I questioned her, and she gave a negative response, “No, why do you ask?”
“Does that mean you’ve never attended any masquerade party?”
“No, I haven’t. Did something happen?”
“That means, before our wedding, we had never met before, right? Then it must have been your sister.”
“What do you mean my sister? Gabby never attends parties. She’s the shy type and prefers staying in her room.”
“I married you because I thought you were the person I had a nightstand with. You don’t have the moon birthmark on your back, shoulder, and face, but your sister does. She’s my mate, and I rejected her because I thought she was the flirtatious daughter.” Her eyes turned red, and she staggered back a little. “Are you saying you had sex with my sister, and she’s the one you were supposed to marry? Okay, I’ll act like none of this happened. We’re already married, and there’s nothing we can do about it. I just want things to be normal for us.” She moved closer to hold me, but I stopped her. “I love your sister, not you. I want us to end this marriage, and I’ll file for a divorce.”
“What? You can’t do that. I won’t allow it. Why can’t you just love me?” She tried to seduce me, and I felt psychologically nauseous. I don’t know why my reaction was so strong, even though she had the same face as my mate. I stopped her, “I order you to stop this madness, Tracy.”
I need to control myself. I should end this in a respectful way. “It’s for the best. Don’t you want to be happy? We need to spend the rest of our lives with someone who makes us happy.”
“But you make me happy.”
“I don’t think I will ever love you; I hope you understand me. I am sorry,” I said with a deep breath. I am not a good-tempered Alpha. I have been controlling my behavior only because she is the sister of my mate. To be honest, I am not afraid of the Silver Moon Pack either; I just don’t want trouble. When things can become easier, I will choose that way. But not now.
The lawyer came with the divorce papers, and I signed them, giving them to her to sign as well. “Don’t bother coming to my pack; your belongings have been taken to your pack.”
“I will make sure you pay for this humiliation you caused me; my father will never forgive you.”
I will not forgive myself if I can’t find my true mate. I will live all my life in regret. I walked away to force more members to search for my mate.
The following week, I got an invitation to meet with Tracy’s father. It’s about time, and I guess it’s about the divorce with his daughter.
“Greetings, Alpha. I got your letter.”
“Why did you bring shame to my family? You divorced my daughter not even 24 hours after the marriage. What should I think of you, Alpha Nicklaus?” He yelled at me, and I also emitted a cold voice, “I once claimed that the girl I was looking for had a moon mark on her back, and my mate is a virgin. But your eldest daughter is not her; you should know.”
I can now clearly feel the degree of favoritism that Silver Moon Pack Alpha has towards his two daughters, which makes me angry and even more heartbroken for my mate.
“Did you just raise your voice at me, Alpha Nicklaus?”
“Yes, I just did. You knew the truth, and yet you made me marry the wrong person. I can’t have a flirt as my wife; even on our wedding day, I am sure she slept with your beta.”
“Watch your tongue. I will not let you speak of my daughter in that manner. The marriage between you two is over, and I promise you, you will regret everything. From now henceforth, we are enemies.”
I looked at him silently without any response. In the past, if someone had spoken to me like this, I would have torn his throat without hesitation. I am well aware of the situation of the Silver Moon Pack. The Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack in front of me is just bluffing, but he is my mate’s father, and I give him dignity.
As expected, he avoided my gaze for less than a minute.
Trying to rest, I heard my name in the form of a whisper, “Alpha Nicklaus, can you hear me? Alpha Nicklaus!” I opened my eyes slowly and I am back to reality; I saw my warriors in my pack surrounding me.
“What happened?” I questioned.
“The beta informed us that you will be in danger, so we came and found you unconscious.”
That witch! How dare she curse me to a deep sleep and take away my mate from me again? I felt like running mad, but I will be back again to get my woman.
