Nicklaus’s POV
“Are you sure they took the hostages to this very forest? I feel it’s a trap,” I said to the Beta over the phone using my AirPods.
“I don’t really know what to say, Alpha. I just covered the northern area. I haven’t seen anything strange yet.”
“Keep me posted on anything you come across and be careful as well. They started this war and they will regret what I will do after we rescue our members who got captured today.”
“Lethal, I feel this is an ambush.”
“I don’t smell our pack members here. I can only sense some strange werewolves here- the black moon wolves. We have to be more vigilant,” Lethal advised.
I moved deeper into the forest and saw some footprints on the ground. I guess they are not far from here anymore. I should be able to find them.
I smelled the leaves and noticed something strange here, and I am right. No captives are here.
The Beta called me again saying, “They are here, just a few guards. They got here but I killed them all. Should I send some of our pack members to meet you there? I feel the plan was to get you alone.”
“It’s been a while since I stretched my bones. Taking out a bunch of heartless black wolves won’t be a problem for me. Return to the pack and I will join you soon,” I replied.
“Be careful, Alpha Nicklaus.”
“You’re wailing like a lady now. I should be telling you to be careful, not the other way around. I will see you at home soon once I am done.” My wolf’s keen hearing picked up a strange sound, and I could tell I had been surrounded.
“I’ve got to go. This is going to be interesting.” I ended the phone call and got ready to fight.
They came out from where they were hidden and attacked. I ripped out their hearts, and it was easy taking them down.
I got focused on the excitement of the fight and didn’t notice more coming from behind me. But immediately, they screamed in pain, holding their heads as blood gushed from their noses, eyes, and ears.
What the hell is happening? Who gave me a helping hand? I turned, and my eyes locked onto my mate Gabriella. My wolf jumped in excitement at seeing her again. This is too good to be real.
I guess it’s not a coincidence we met again after four years. She looks extremely beautiful, but her eyes reveal her hatred and anger for me, which I totally understand.
I have been searching for her for the past four years. Countless times, I have imagined the scene of our reunion. Even though I am prepared for her to resent me, seeing the resentment in my little mate’s eyes still can’t help but make me feel heartbroken.
But everything’s okay. I am good at taking initiative and never giving up on my goals. I will give her time to process it. I need to make a plan to make her accept me again.
So many things have changed about her. She is no longer shy and simple. Now she talks like a warrior. I guess I pushed her into this new attitude of hers.
I tried talking to her and stopping her, but she kept pushing me away. At first, I almost lost it, but I kept my anger in check. She is my mate, and I shouldn’t be too hard on her.
A child hiding in the grass called her “mom,” and I could smell something unique from the kid, like she belonged to me. Is she really my daughter? The night we spent together resulted in her getting pregnant for me, right? Damn it, I ruined so many things, but it’s never too late to make things right again.
“Alpha Nicklaus, you need to leave now,” she said, bringing me back from my deep thoughts.
“Is she our daughter?” I questioned her to hear the truth from her, but instead, she laughed. “Why would I have a daughter for a man like you? As I said, I am living peacefully. And in case you don’t know, I am happily married, and that child is not yours.” She said it directly to my face, and my blood boiled with rage. Who dared to mate with my beautiful mate? I will crush that person to pieces.
Seeing the child again, I got more excited without reason, noting the striking resemblance we shared.
“My mate! My pup!” My wolf howled, and I could even feel it wildly wagging its tail.
“Leave,” Gabby repeated the words.
My wolf’s heartfelt loss then, gritting its teeth and saying to me, “Go pray for our mate’s forgiveness, NOW.”
My wolf rarely speaks to me in such a commanding tone, but almost every time it encounters Gabriella, it loses control.
“I know, but we can’t scare her. We need time and then we can make a plan.”
“I hate to plan. GO, NOW!” My wolf grew impatient.
