His tousled brown locks slightly fell to his face as he shared with me an odd look. “What?”
“You know…” I lolled my eyes about as I gestured with my hands, “why are they fighting?”
He singly blinked as his head fell back to the pillow, releasing a sigh that sounded like relief. “I dunno, Munchkin. She never told me, maybe Alfred. The one time I asked her, she only gave me a dead warning of never to allow the witch into the palace… I think it started while my father was still alive. I once thought maybe it was a normal women’s clash that involved jealousy or so…” He bounced his shoulders nonchalantly and his left hand tugged at me until I was flat on the bed.
“Hmmmn, it’s weird,” I pushed.
“Yeah.” He kissed my neck. “C’mon let’s get some sleep unless you want to go down for dinner?”
“No!” I rapidly intoned.
“Okay, sleep then. I have a meeting with the elders tomorrow morning concerning the upcoming full moon festival. I have avoided it for too long. They linked me today for it, so that the other packs can start preparations. It’s going to be a busy period for me.” I nodded, snuggling into him.
I know all the routines, and I feel awful that he would be carrying the burden alone. I know Theresa would help, yet, it wouldn’t be enough as when he has a real Queen beside him to do most. Well, that’s why you are here… a silly side of me that wasn’t Muse spun.
“Hey, whatever it is you are planning, please make sure my mother and Alfred wouldn’t be around when Mrs. Dolly gets here. And before you say you trust him, he is too loyal to my mother not to tell,” he mumbled sleepily, hence my thoughts simmered in frenzy.
That is another problem. I had been so immersed in thinking about how to deal with Alonso and his mother that I didn’t for once think of him. Without Alonso uttering it, I might still be friends with Alfred, but I don’t trust him. So many of my ventures with him have been curbed entirely, starting with being alone with him in isolated places, like the forest, to telling him any secrets. I don’t suspect him of anything but hearing him say he would kill Alonso for power gave me a wrong impression of him, not to mention his open seduction, however mild.
“Okay,” I whispered, burrowing deeper into his wild chest for comfort.
*
Early the next morning, I jumped up from the bed as the alarm of my phone blared. I had cautiously set it last night, knowing the implications of sleeping with Alonso. Without it, I’m dead to the world until whenever. And I wouldn’t want that.
He grumbled in protest as I slipped out of his arm, and he tossed to the left-hand side of the bed. I tiptoed out of the bed to the bathroom for my normal routine, came out to dress on my trainers, went to peck his cheek, and left with my water bottle.
Outside was freezing, still, Alfred was in it, doing laps. I rushed back inside the lobby to rub my palms together for some time to gather heat, thereafter taking the courage to join him. Once I start my exercise and training, I will heat up.
“Morning, Sweetface. How was your night?” He lined up with me.
I gleamed at him. “Twas great, yours?”
He went on peering at me in one of his odd ways that has my pulse increasing. Then said, “Awesome just like yours.” Then he picked up the pace to run towards Lance’s quarters.
I shook off that gnawing sensation I often have around him, consoled with the fact that since he already knew my secret, there is nothing I should be scared of anymore. I accelerated my pace until I was level with him, to shoot my shot. “Hey, will you be around on Saturday?”
He blew out air, as he stopped at a spot in front of Lance’s quarters. His breath was coming in slow pants as he appraised me. I gave him my water bottle on impulse thinking he might be dehydrated. Or to keep him at ease with my question and not suspect anything. Oh, I suck at deception. This is a normal question I could ask him any day without having my heart try to rip out of my chest, yet, here I am thinking too much about it.
“I have a couple of rounds sometime around midday, why asking?” He handed back the bottle with thanks.
Perfect!
I bounced my shoulders noncommittally. “Nothing. Just wanted to know. I thought you will be around so to meet my friends…” I dubbed, scoring myself a big high five.
His forehead crumpled as though in a laughable irritation. “You mean friends by those Omegas and the poor doctor who is apparently friends with you because like every other man he is drooling for a piece of you?” Ouch! That hurts.
I swapped his arms. “You are mean! I love them.”
“Thanks, I pass.” He rolled his eyes.
“Well, for your information he isn’t drooling after me, like every other pervert I know. His mate is Mary.”
He choked on his air, holding his stomach to bend down. “What! That’s impossible! An ash breeder wolf and Omega? Ridiculous! The goddess can be very humorous in match-making.”
I rolled my eyes and left him there, running back to wait for him in front of the house as he went to bring out his jaguar.
Insufferable douchebag! At least I have what I want.
“I can’t believe you pulled that off very easily within… a day?” Mary quipped the same day in the library after work.
“She had them all twirled around her fingers. That is what kindness does, it draws you to people, giving you the chance to do what you want with them,” Nadia drawled, resuming her bind scratch like a bored cat.
“”I disagree, Nadia. I’m not the type to have anyone wrapped around my finger,” I retorted.
“Well, it’s a good twirl. C’mon, let’s go share with Mrs. Dolly. We have good news,” Mary said as she stood from the chair and we made our way to the door.
The show is about to go down!
