Mia
Damn. Shit. Fuck. All three rolled into one and it wouldn’t still have been enough for the emotions running through me. I felt guilt, annoyance and more guilt thrumming in my veins. We shouldn’t have been too tired. We should have checked the letter.
We had all slept off the moment we got to our rooms and didn’t wake up for hours. Even the food that had been made for us had to be warmed up before we could eat it as it had gotten cold while we were still sleeping.
John had finally come back home, told us he went for a drive as he was bored at home and we had all eaten dinner. We had then remembered the letter and it was then that we had gotten the shock that we hadn’t been expecting.
The messenger who had brought the letter had been right. We hadn’t needed to think long about who had brought it. Even though it had not been addressed at the outer part, we had known who sent it the moment we opened the letter.
“From your once crazy fanged friends.” Quinn had read out as soon as he opened the letter.
We looked at one another and smiled. There was only one person we knew who could ever address himself as that. I was about to make a joke that it was nice for Ethan to finally reach out to us when Quinn continued reading the letter and I quickly sobered up when I heard the news. It was bad news and I felt guilty that I hadn’t let us read the letter on time.
Quinn sighed as he folded the letter back and dropped it on the couch next to him. “It seems like our friends are in trouble and they need our help.”
“We have to go as soon as we can.” John said.
I nodded. That was what was stated in the letter. Ethan had said that there had been a series of unfortunate incidents happening in their land and he would explain in full details when we got to his palace. He had appealed to us to come as fast as we could, stating that he would appreciate our urgent help.
I knew the dark wizard had been destroyed or I would have wondered if he was back on the land to wreck disaster on them because of revenge. It couldn’t be the dark wizard and I wondered who it was. I shook my head, telling myself I didn’t have to wonder for too long. We just had to go there, Ethan had promised to tell us the full details.
I felt bad that they had been dealing with problems and praying for our help while we had been sleeping without even bothering to read the letter. I sighed. Maybe something had even happened to them while we had been sleeping.
Jack chuckled and then sighed, his expression sad. “The adventures never end, did they? Just when we thought it was over, another would pop up. From fighting the dark wizard to sorting out the unexpected title conferred on our mate and now this.”
“I know, right?” John sighed.
“Does anyone realize that we have never been on a proper date with Mia ever since we started going out?” Jack asked.
Quinn and John looked at each other and sighed. “We never had time for it.”
“I thought we would be able to do that this break but it seems like we wouldn’t be able to get to it. We always have appointments keeping us away from doing what we want to do.”
“I hope it won’t be like this forever. I really want to go on a date with our girl.”
They all looked at me but my mind was far from the date. I was worried about Ethan, Ava and Rudolph. I hoped they were safe and would be till we got there. I didn’t know what we were going to do if we get there but I believed Ethan had a plan. He wouldn’t have asked us to come if he didn’t have one.
Jack noticed my sour expression and sulked. “I think Mia wants to go on a date with us as well. She is sad that we had never been on a date with her ever since she accepted to be our mate. She must be seeing us as terrible mates already.”
John snorted. “I doubt that. She knows we are not deliberately doing this to her. After all, we had been on all the adventures together. I’m sure she understands.”
Quinn nodded. “Why is she sad then? She definitely didn’t want these unforeseen occurrences as much as we didn’t.”
“Let’s ask her.”
I smiled at them. “You all know I’m here, right? Talking of me as if I’m not here.”
Jack chuckled. “Finally, you talked. You have been silent since Quinn read the letter that we wondered what was going on in your mind and thought you were sulking that our time together had been disrupted. After all, you rushed the process of your coronation and came home as early as you could to be with us.”
“I know but these are our friends. I can’t be mad that they want our help. We can always get time to be together anytime.” I said.
Jack snorted. “It doesn’t seem like that with all these annoying situations popping here and there. It almost feels like fate is against us.”
“Do you believe that?” Quinn snorted. “Stop that nonsense.”
Jack arched his eyebrows at him. “I thought you believe in fate.”
“Only when it is working for me.” Quinn smiled.
“Sly bastard.” Jack grinned. “I’m jealous of dad and Vanessa right now. They are together, loving up on each other and doing whatever it is they want.”
“We will also get to do what we want.” I reminded him with a smile. “We would go on dates as much as we want till we get tired of it once we are done here. The faster we travel and help the vampires, the earlier we get back to having those dates. What do you say, boys? I feel bad already that we didn’t read the letter yesterday.”
Quinn snorted. “Is that why you have that long face? You are feeling guilty that you picked yourself first? You don’t have to feel that way, girl. You have to know that you couldn’t have done anything last night even if we had read the letter. We couldn’t have traveled in that state. I’m glad that we didn’t read it yesterday or we wouldn’t have been able to sleep well as we did, worrying about the vampires. The best time we could have read the letter is now and that was what we did.”
I nodded. He was right. I told myself to stop feeling guilty and look at the way forward. “What is the plan now?”
“We tell dad that we are gone on another adventure and we move.” Quinn said simply.
I nodded. It was time to pack my bag again. Maybe I should leave my bag packed so that I would just pick it up and be ready to go when adventures call.
