Mia
It was good to be back home. I had become the baroness and had also set some structures in place that wouldn’t make me be there all the time. As hard as it had been, I had finally found people that I could trust to work for me over there and send reports to me.
I couldn’t live there forever as much as mum, Durian and Sloan wanted me to. They wanted me to get married there to another titled man and make babies for the throne, to keep the title alive in the alive. I was sorry to disappoint them but I had already gotten my mate and even though we would be making babies, they wouldn’t be living there as well. They would also rule from afar as their mother was currently about to do.
Even if I wasn’t in a relationship, I didn’t think I wanted that kind of life that the only reason I was going to be with a man was to give birth to kids who would carry on the throne and title of being a baron or baroness.
Giving birth to kids only to ensure a continuation of the family line was a burden I didn’t want to place on my kids.
Durian had tried all he could to make me stay there but it just wasn’t going to work. I couldn’t stay there. I couldn’t be apart from the boys and they couldn’t stay too far from their territory. The wolves in them would go berserk if they lived on lands that didn’t call out to it, and the same was applicable to me. I was a werewolf now and couldn’t live anywhere because of that. I had to feel the land of the wolf and make its heartbeat run through me.
The boys weren’t ever going to live forever if I chose to stay there as Quinn had to be the alpha soon and wouldn’t be able to move away as much as he could. I didn’t even want to live away from them.
The staff I had gotten over there to work on my behalf were experienced people who were adept at estate and household management. I didn’t think I was going to have any problem. I felt secure about them. They were going to do their job and send over a report for me to sign. I was going to look over their analysis and make my decision and then send back to them through online means. If there was any reason for me to travel to the house to get anything done, I was going to take a flight there, do everything I need to do within two days and be back home with the next available flight. I had picked those candidates with the help of the boys, mum and Durian.
Even John had sent his report on the files of the applicants sent to him through email. It had been a hectic process but we had done it. I felt like almost everyone in town applied for the job when I had sent out a vacancy for employees. I had been afraid I would be stuck for days picking through candidates after my coronation day but Sloan had told me that it would get better.
He had said everyone had heard the news that there was a new baroness in town and was wondering what she looked like hence the thoughtless applications. He had told me I would be able to fizzle them out during the interviews and he was right. I had been able to do that and had gotten the best of the applicants as staff. Looking at all the structures that I had put in place, I didn’t think that being a baroness was as hard as I had initially thought. I couldn’t believe that I was afraid of doing it before.
I had gotten it done. I was back home and it was good to be back.
“Welcome home, young masters and Miss.” The butler said and bowed in greeting as we stepped out of the car.
We moved aside as the servants rushed to our side to get our luggage. We nodded a greeting back at him and started walking in. It had been a long drive and even though I wasn’t the one who drove, I was tired and I had reasons to be after all the events I had set up and chores I had done before coming here. I knew that Quinn would be tired the most of the three of us and I felt pity for him. Jack had slept through the drive as he had stayed up all night with Albert who wanted to take mum on a romantic trip to make up for the time they had lost and had needed help doing that so he had asked Jack for help as he always called himself the king of romance. I had almost felt pity for him last night before I went to bed as I watched him get frustrated with his dad. I couldn’t count the number of times he blew out an exasperated breath and glared at his dad even though he didn’t let him see him.
He deserved it. He had asked for it and shouldn’t complain. He should work to prove he was really the king of romance. I almost teased him that he shouldn’t call himself the king of romance with those weak skills but he was already frustrated with his dad and I didn’t want to add to it. I had laughed watching the two of them last night. It had been hilarious watching Jack suggest ideas he believed were romantic to his dad and having him reject them that he didn’t like them and should try harder.
The king of romance had been reduced to an amateur last night and it was a funny sight to behold even though I knew Jack didn’t feel that way.
We were all tired and couldn’t wait to fall face flat on our bed and sleep off. We all came to a stop, staring in surprise at the butler as he ran to us and stood in our path. It took all I had in me to not growl at him to leave the way.
I was barely hanging on to my consciousness and knew that it wouldn’t be easy to hold myself upright if he didn’t leave anytime soon.
“What is the issue?” Quinn asked.
“This letter came for you while you were away, sir.” The butler said.
“Why didn’t you give it to John?” Jack sighed. “I believe he is around.”
“He went out this morning and the letter didn’t come until this afternoon. It was delivered an hour before you came. You would have met the messenger if you had been here early.”
I snorted. We couldn’t have been here early except we wanted to break our necks and die. It had taken us driving at a high speed to even make it here before dusk.
“Who is it from?” Quinn asked.
The butler shrugged. “He didn’t say but says you wouldn’t have to guess too much who sent it if you read the letter.”
I sighed and turned to the butler, not waiting for Quinn to respond this time. “Did the messenger say it was urgent?”
He shook his head. “I didn’t think so but he said that you should get to it as soon as you can. I think the letter was meant for all of you. He mentioned the names of all of you and that made me believe he knew you and that was why I collected it.”
I snorted. Even if he had mentioned the names of all our ancestors, I still didn’t think we were going to read the letter now. We were all so tired that I didn’t think that our brains had any capacity left to decipher a letter with codes. I didn’t think I had the energy to wonder who sent the letter and I was sure the boys didn’t too. Quinn looked like he could sleep off where he was and Jack looked ready to sleep some more even though he had been sleeping all day.
“Please hold on to it, sir, for a while.” I said to the butler. “I will send for it when we are all here and we’ll be rested.”
He nodded. “Noted, Miss. Please go have your rest. You look like you need more of it. I will have them prepare some delicacies for you before you wake up.”
“Thanks, sir. You are a darling.” I said and walked into the house to sleep. The boys weren’t far behind as well and without a word, we all moved into our respective bedrooms, not even curious who the sender of the letter was.
