Mia
I jumped the moment I heard my phone ring. It could be no one else but the boys. I had been waiting for their calls for ages and I was glad that they had finally made it through. They should have called an hour ago. The past one hour had been full of agony though I had tried to keep myself busy by arranging my stuff.
“Hi,” I breathed into the phone.
Jack chuckled at my breathlessness. “Did you run to the phone?”
I rolled my eyes, angry at myself for giving him a reason to tease me. “As if I would do that. I didn’t. I was having some exercise to keep myself busy. My phone was right with me when you called.” I lied.
I knew I was lying but they weren’t here to call me out on it. It wasn’t like they knew what I was doing before the call came through. Jack was already insufferable, I wasn’t about to give him a reason to feel himself. He was going to tease me for ages. That was not going to happen. I wasn’t going to give him that chance.
“How are you?” Quinn asked.
I knew what he was asking of. I knew he wasn’t asking if I was fine or not. He was asking of details and I was ready to share that with him as well.
“The place is okay. I have been shown to my room. I was told to settle in and we would talk after dinner. The two of them had gone to have a drink which I hope wouldn’t be more than one. I’m in my room arranging my clothes and missing you guys.”
“We miss you too.” They chuckled.
“What is going on at home?”
“Nothing much, except you are interested in the details of your mum sucking face with our dad.”
“Ewww!” I said and the boys chuckled. “I can’t believe that she is enjoying herself after sending her daughter away to the wolves.”
“She didn’t send you to the wolves, she sent you away from them.” Jack grinned.
I snorted. “Don’t be naughty. This isn’t the time to try to play smart with me. You know what I mean.”
“Of course, we know but you also know your mum didn’t do anything to hurt you. She was only looking out for your success.”
“Who are you supporting?” I scowled at Jack. “Me or my mum?”
“Of course, you baby.” Jack quickly corrected himself and we all laughed. “Why would your mum send you to the wolves? That was a very bad thing to do to one’s own daughter. How are you coping with the wolves now, my dear? I hope they haven’t torn you to pieces yet. Can you handle them? Are you sure they are wolves that you can’t deal with?”
I chuckled. “Now, you are being sarcastic.”
“I thought you would like us to sympathize with you.”
Okay, I deserved that taunt. I had been the one to ask for it. “Okay, I’m sorry.”
John chuckled. “Don’t mind Jack. Of course, you are free to whine to us as much as you like.”
“I’m good now.”
We talked for some more minutes before they broke the call, saying that they didn’t want to wear me out with a long call so I wouldn’t be too tired for the meeting tonight. I rolled my eyes at them as they bid me goodbye and promised to call the following day.
I appreciated their concerns but they were always too overprotective of me. If I was going to be too tired for the meeting, I would be the one to tell them. It was meant to be my decision. They didn’t need to have done that on my behalf. It was more of an hassle not talking to them and wondering what I was going to do with myself before the meeting after dinner. Talking to them was a relief and never a problem. I would have something to keep myself busy before the time of the meeting and now they had denied me that.
This was why I said that I was going to miss them when I was going. Talking with them on the phone was never going to be like being with them in person.
“Call us if anything happens.” They said.
“I don’t think so. This place seems boring.” I said. I didn’t think that anything could happe here.
They ended the call and I sighed as I dropped the phone, feeling bored already. My phone rang again and I hurriedly snatched it off the bed, thinking that they were the one calling me back because they missed me as well.
I sighed as I realized that it was my mum and shook my head at myself for my attitude. I couldn’t believe that I was doing that to my mum. It was funny to me that my loyalty had changed. There was a time that I would be eager to hear from mum and hiss at a call from the boys. It was amusing how fickle the human heart was and how easily it could change. I was glad that I was a wolf and the boys said the love of a wolf was for ever. I couldn’t bear to think of them not loving me anymore and getting bored with them. I couldn’t bear to think of falling out of love with them and finding their presence irritating when I was this happy with them.
The phone rang again, bringing me out of my thoughts and reminding me that my mum was still on the line.
“I am not speaking with you.” I said into the phone as soon as I picked it up. “You left me alone, mum.”
She chuckled. “You wouldn’t have picked up if you didn’t want to speak to me.”
I snorted. “That was a mistake.”
She laughed. “If it was a mistake, you would have picked up on the first ring.”
I sighed. She had me on that. “Okay. Fine. Let’s agree that I wanted to speak to you, that doesn’t mean I’m still not angry with you.”
She chuckled. “Of course, you still are.” She said in agreement but it didn’t seem like she believed me.
“How is the husband you betrayed me for?” I asked.
“He is fine and send his regards.”
I heard a knock on the door and frowned as I wasn’t expecting anyone. The men had said our meeting would be after dinner and I didn’t think it was time for that yet except they always had an early dinner here.
My day had been crazy that I found it hard to believe I was the same girl who was thinking of having another round of sex with her mates when she woke up.
“It seems someone is at the door.”
“It could be the maids.” She suggested.
“Let me check.” I said, got up from the bed and moved towards the door.
I looked at the two elegantly dressed ladies standing before me in surprise. I didn’t know there were other family members in the house except the men I had come here with. It seemed like this place was going to be interesting after all.
“Good evening.” They both greeted me at the same time, running their eyes over me. I didn’t know what to think of their attitude but I ignored it.
“Is it the maid?” Mum asked, having heard their voices.
“I don’t think so.” I replied her.
She giggled and I could picture her putting her hands on her mouth as she did. “It’s possible they are your distant cousins. I think you are about to have some friends, my dear.”
“Maybe.” I agreed, looking at the girls who also were looking at me and waiting patiently for me to end the call.
“Let me leave you to attend to your new friends. Talk to you later, darling. Promise to tell me all about your new friends later.”
“Maybe I will, maybe I won’t.”
She laughed. “Are you still mad at me, my dear?”
“Maybe I am, maybe I’m not.”
“You know you can’t be mad at mummy.” She grinned and disconnected the call from her own end.
I dropped the phone from my ear and turned to the ladies. Maybe it was about to be interesting after all and I wouldn’t regret coming.
