We all moved to the bedroom of the king, armed with nothing but our determination and the sap. Today was the D-Day. It was today and no other day else. The dark wizard was going out and down today. We had all had enough.
Ava was already seated in the room at the edge on Ethan’s bed and cleaning his body as she gazed at him lovingly with love. I pitied her the most of everyone that was concerned in this matter. It must be hard on her though she pretended as if it wasn’t but I knew that she must surely have her own days that she would break down in secret.
I saluted her courage and strength and respected her for that. I couldn’t imagine that it was one of the boys that was in the state that Ethan was, I would have lost it even though I still had two to worry about.
I couldn’t imagine how she must feel, watching the only man she loved sleeping there, unconscious and fighting for his identity. It hurt that we had no idea of the battles Ethan was dealing with in his head. I hoped that everything worked as we planned it today so I could see the joy that would be on her face when she finally get to be with her man.
She stood up as she saw us. “You are back.” She said to Rudolph.
Rudolph moved to her side. “I told you I was going to be back soon. Any changes since I left?”
“Nothing. He has immobile since you left.”
She turned to me. “What do we do?”
I felt like a doctor on consultation and smiled at her. “Now, we finish off the bastard who has been causing all of us pain.”
We all went still and looked at one another with shock written all over our face when Ethan’s mouth started moving and he start to mumble words that were inaudible to us, even with our superior hearing.
I didn’t think it could be something that was good with the way his face was scrunched up and his his lips were moving fast. It couldn’t be anything nice. I moved forward and bent my ears to his lips to hear what he was saying.
I gasped and went white with shock. It was just as I had feared.
I straightened up and looked at the others. “He is murmuring spells.”
“What?” Quinn gasped and started barking out orders.
I was alarmed and moved on shaky feet to where Ethan was. That was a disaster. It was either the dark wizard was trying to take fully the body of the vampire or he was trying to kill him. Whatever it was that he wanted to do, he wasn’t going to be successful. I was determined to not make that happen.
It was time to end him for good.
I brought out the remaining sap and shook the container as one would a vial of medication. Quinn and Rudolph nodded at each other and moved to Ethan’s side. They held him by the hands and clamped them down. John moved to his legs and held them. I moved to his head, forced his mouth open and poured all the remaining sap in his mouth. He gagged but I wouldn’t stop and kept on pouring the potion into his mouth. I didn’t stop until I was certain that he had had enough.
I clamped his mouth shut, holding his lips tightly and forcing everything that was in his mouth to go down. I watched as his throat bobbed up and down as he swallowed what was in his mouth. I let go once I knew that he had nothing else in his mouth and waited.
We all waited, the boys never letting go of their hold on Ethan. Just as we had all anticipated, five minutes after I had forcefully fed Ethan the potion, he started to convulse and shake so badly that he would have tumbled off the bed and hurt himself if he wasn’t being held down.
I knew that he wasn’t going to fall off the bed. The boys were all holding him as if they were holding on for their own dear life. I knew Ethan was strong and it was highly likely that he was going to be aggressive under the influence of the dark wizard as he was trying to break free but no matter how strong he was, he couldn’t be as stronger than three supernatural beings who were as strong as he was holding him down together.
Suddenly, Ethan roared and we all watched as something flew out of his mouth in the form of a mist. There was no doubt that that was the dark wizard. We had already told everyone not to talk no matter what happened when the dark wizard escaped but I felt I needed to warn them again.
At that moment, the dark wizard was weak and couldn’t stay long in that misty form. He would need another body to host him and if any sound was made then, he would trace it and enter the body of the person making them his new home.
It was a guess of mine that the dark wizard had traveled far to the land of the vampires when he had been injured, looking for where to hide and heal himself, and couldn’t sustain the misty form anymore. He had been looking for a host when the vampire king had fallen and shouted. He had traced the scream, possessed him and that had been the beginning of everyone’s dilemma.
I placed a finger on my lips and reminded them all to keep quiet. They nodded without making a sound and letting go of Ethan who was still thrashing on the bed from the aftermath of the attack he had just survived. Ava had silently moved to the head of the bed and covered Ethan’s mouth with her hands so he wouldn’t shout and get possessed again by the dark wizard.
That mustn’t happen. If he gets possessed again by the dark wizard, he was lost to us forever. I didn’t think that he had the strength in him enough to fight for his identity. The dark wizard would take complete control of his body and Ethan’s soul would die a silent painless death.
I watched with humor as the mist which was the soul of the dark wizard moved around the room, looking for an exit. We had anticipated that too and to avoid him possessing the body of anyone else in the tribe, we had shut the windows and door so he wouldn’t have any opportunity to the open.
I wished I could talk and tell him that he would be dying in here. I couldn’t talk but I could show him instead. I passed the another container of the sap to Jack who was waiting on standby for this moment.
He popped it open and the mist turned in his direction at the sound of the pop. With super reflexes and silence, he moved away from the direction the dark wizard was flying to, shifted to the side and poured the sap on the mist.
We watched in wonder as the mist started to change in color, twisting as a snake who was in pain would. I snorted. The dark wizard was nothing but a snake after all. Suddenly, a scream erupted from the mist and it dissolved, evaporating finally till there was nothing left.
Ava breathed. “Is it over?”
I nodded, smiling at her. “Congratulations.”
She smiled back and glanced fondly at Ethan who was lying down on the bed, looking as calm and peaceful as he could.
“How do we know the dark wizard is gone for good?” Rudolph asked, ever the doubting Thomas.
Quinn snorted. “If the calmness on the king’s face isn’t proof enough, let’s go to where you kept the statue of our father. He should be human by now if the dark wizard is truly gone.”
