Quinn
The goblin was crazy. He kept us asking us silly questions and demanded an answer in seconds. Mia broke the pattern and noticed that he was asking questions off his head with what was around him. She observed everything that was around us and gave him the answers. Annoyed that she was getting the answers right, he switched questions and started asking ridiculous questions, ones that made my skin cringe.
Did he think we were fools? We would all have to be daft to not know the answers. He got angry and started flinging stuff at is, warning us that we would forever be trapped if one of them hit us. It was annoying dealing with him but we were finally able to beat him with intelligence and courage.
None of what he threw at us hit us as we had noticed that his powers only could spin items in the air upwards and not direct them. They moved so fast in the air, going to all directions that it would be impossible to avoid them. Once we noticed that the items couldn’t be controlled to spin downwards, all we had to do was drop to the floor. Jack and I moved as fast as we could, crawling on our bellies to where the goblin was while he struggled to control the items to come at us. John stayed with Mia and protected her while we went on the offensive. We got to where the goblin was, held him by the leg and pulled him down. The door reappeared as he fell down. He rolled off, brimming with rage as he stood up on his feet.
“What have you done?”
“Beaten you at your game.” I smiled as we all stood up. I dusted the sand off my hands. “The door is here so I guess this game is over.”
“Yeah, we are leaving.” Jack grinned. “Hope to never see you again.”
“You will surely pay for this shame that you have caused me.” The goblin shouted as we walked away.
I stopped and looked back at him. “Shame? It was a game and we won just as you said we needed to. You shouldn’t have started it when you knew you couldn’t deal with the aftermath.”
“What a sore loser.” Mia scoffed at him.
We got outside and were shocked to see water. It was much that we wouldn’t be able to walk through it. It wasn’t there when we had walked in – we had gotten in on bare land – and we wondered if we had opened the door to another exit. This surely wasn’t the door we had come in through.
We had two options. We could either swim through the water to get to the dry land at the other side and continue on our journey or we could go back inside to beg the goblin to open the actual exit door for us. The latter wasn’t going to happen with the way the goblin had reacted after losing so the former option was our only option.
I looked back to see the goblin staring at us from the door. He seemed pleased with our dilemma and started laughing.
“Good luck swimming through the water.” He laughed and slammed the door shut in our faces.
I snorted at his acts. As if we were going to get back inside with him. What did he think he was?
“I can’t believe we have to swim through this.” Mia shuddered. “This looks unhealthy.”
I nodded. The water was black in color but I knew that wasn’t what Mia was worried about. She was scared of falling sick because of germs. If it was about the color, we would change our clothes after getting to the other side.
“Microbes, germs and diseases aren’t your problem again, Mia. You are a werewolf now, remember?”
“Oh!” She blushed. “That is going to take some time getting used to.”
“Don’t worry. We are here to remind you.” Jack smiled.
“But you bit me the other day, Quinn and I didn’t become a werewolf. Why is there a difference now? Is it because the three of you bit me?”
John shook his head. “No. It’s because we bit you on the night of the full moon. On an ordinary day, it wouldn’t have made a difference which was why you didn’t turn when Quinn bit you but on the night of a full moon, our wolves are awake as well and we can turn others if we bite them on nights like that, even if we are in our human forms.”
“Oh! I understand.” She beamed.
“Good. Now, let’s swim to the other side now that you know you are safe.”
We got into the water and started swimming. I was glad that our luggage were now lighter due to the amount of food and drink that we had eaten already out of the bags or it would have been hard to swim.
Suddenly, a giant snake appeared when we got to the middle of the river. What was the problem of the water here? They always waited for their victims to get to the middle before launching an attack.
I confirmed that the snake was the only one there before planning our defense. We all swam to different direction, knowing that its focus couldn’t be on more than one person. I suspected that the goblin had known that the snake was in the water and that was why he wished us luck in crossing it. He was indeed a sore loser. How could he want us dead because we won him at a game?
I noticed that the snake was running after Mia, ignoring the rest of us. Regardless of where she turned to, it followed. I shared a look with my brothers and smiled. A plan had been formed and it was easy.
I directed John to go after Mia and pull her towards where we were, also protecting her so the snake wouldn’t harm her. Jack and I hid, keeping still in the water as best as we could. As expected, the snake moved after Mia. John guided Mia through where me and Jack were hiding. We had our claws out and scraped at the snake as it passed in between us. We dug into its skin from each side and tore it open with our claws. We ran, swimming as fast as we could as it thrashed about.
We knew the moment it died as the water suddenly became calm. A second later, the water dried up and we were able to walk on dry land.
