Mia
I was home the following weekend, not eager to be in pain because I was away from Quinn.
I woke up, stretching in bed and choosing not to think of the dream I had. I was already getting used to the familiar dream. Human beings really didn’t take long to adapt. I no longer found it weird that Quinn appeared in my dreams.
It was as if my subconscious was also trying to remind me that it was a ‘like one, get two free’ situation. Lately, I was starting to dream of Jack and John and it was as sensual as when I dreamt of Quinn even when I had not slept with them.
If I hadn’t known better, I would have thought that the boys were responsible for the dreams that I had. Quinn had confirmed to me that they couldn’t read minds and I doubted that they could control minds if they couldn’t. Albert had told me that the dreams were going to happen because of the bonding. He seemed familiar with the concept. That meant that I would have the dreams as a bonded mate even if it was one werewolf. It was just my luck that I had to be bonded to three wolves and was now thinking of them.
There was a problem, a new one that I hadn’t been expecting. My heart was misbehaving. I couldn’t understand it. I couldn’t stop thinking of the three of them. I didn’t know if it was because of what Quinn had said by challenging me to admit my feelings and also like his brothers or because I had accepted my fate that there was no reversal to the bonding and I would have to be their mate, all I knew was that I couldn’t stop thinking of the triplets and wondering what it would be like to be mated to them.
I believed I was crazy for getting open to the idea of being their girl. It was said that love made one crazy and I wondered if I was falling in love with the brothers.
Uh! That was… I trailed off. I didn’t even get as disgusted anymore as I used to feel. Something was wrong with me. I needed someone to talk to. I needed someone to tell me if I was crazy or normal. If it was normal and I wasn’t alone in this struggle, I needed to know what I was meant to do.
I couldn’t talk to my room about this. She was certainly going to scream at me and tell me that I was crazy. She was going to freak out at the secrets I would be revealing. She was going to charge at Albert, screaming for his head. I had promised Albert that I wasn’t going to tell her about his secret, I wasn’t about to snitch on him now.
I wondered who else I could talk to. Maybe I should ask Anna. She was out there and more exposed than I was. It was possible that she had seen someone this had happened to and given me some advice.
I picked up my phone and was about to call her when I realized that anyone could knock on the door and interrupt my call. I didn’t want any disturbance and neither did I want someone to eavesdrop on me.
I decided to move to the garden to have the call, hoping that no one was there. That was better. People in the household hardly moved to the garden and I was certain that I was going to be alone there.
I sat on the bench in the garden and dialed Anna. She picked up on the first ring, as if she had been waiting for my call.
“Are you busy?” I said the moment she muttered hello.
I didn’t want to disturb her and it was possible that she had her phone in her hand because she was busy with it.
“No, I was playing a game when I got your call.” She replied. “Why?”
“Nothing. I was just wondering if it is a good time to call.”
She chuckled. “It’s always a good time when you call, Mia. You should have known that.”
“Oh! Thanks.” I grinned.
“How are you?” She asked. “It’s been long I heard from you.”
“Which is why I called. I miss you.”
“I miss you too.” She gushed.
“Hope you are good?”
“Of course, I’m doing well. What of you?”
“I’m fine. It’s so good to hear your voice.”
“I feel the same way too. Let’s do this another time, Mia.”
“Sure.” I chuckled. “I’m going to call you whenever I’m bored.”
“Bored? You called because you missed me.”
I laughed. “Of course, I missed you.”
We talked of nothing in particular till we ended the call. I couldn’t even get to open up to her. My mouth refused to work and spilled my guts to her.
I realized as I held my phone in my hand and stared into space that I hadn’t moved out of the room because I didn’t want anyone to interrupt. I had only been stalling on what I wanted to do.
It wasn’t surprising that I couldn’t tell Anna about it despite all the openings that I had to talk about during the call. I had always been a coward who found it easier to run than tackle my problems head-on.
I sighed as I placed the phone beside me, wondering if I should call Anna again and tell her how I felt. I cringed, putting a pause on that thought. What if she thought I was crazy and told me to go for therapy? I didn’t think was going to be able to stand criticism from her at this moment that I was emotionally raw.
I sighed again, wondering if I should be bold and call her or… I didn’t know what else to do. If I had known, I wouldn’t be as confused as this.
“You are going to uproot all the trees. You have been sighing ever since you got here.”
I jumped as I heard John’s voice. I had thought that I was alone. “Hey.”
“Hi,” he smiled gently at me as he sat beside me on the bench. “What is the problem? You seem troubled.”
“You are right about that.” I replied him, careful to avoid sighing again.
“Care to share your burdens?”
I looked at him and could see that he meant it. I didn’t know if that was a good thing to do and debated on telling him. After all, he was involved in what was troubling me.
I sighed and smiled slowly to myself. He wasn’t as possessive as Quinn and Jack were about me. Moreover, I knew him to be cool and more logical than his brothers. If I needed anyone to understand me and yet, advise me on what to do, John was my best bet.
“I want to share.”
He nodded and turned to me, showing me I had his rapt attention. “Good. I’m listening.”
“I keep having these dreams about the three of you. I know it’s because Quinn marked me but I can’t stop thinking of him either. I have to admit how I feel about the three of you but I don’t just know. I’m confused on what I feel. I’m not intentionally trying to be a bitch about this whole issue but it’s making my head ache as I try to figure out everything.”
I had thought that it would be hard to talk about but maybe because I had been talking to Quinn and knew that he could relate with the story, I didn’t feel ashamed as I thought I would, talking of my feelings.
He smiled warmly at me. “It’s nice that you are giving this a thought.”
“But it’s driving me crazy.” I sighed.
“Then stop letting it. You don’t have to force yourself to admit how you feel if you don’t know it yet. Let the brothers woo you till each of them wins your heart. You only have to be open-minded. Don’t let yourself be pressured.”
I nodded. What he said made sense. “I shouldn’t get myself under pressure.”
“Exactly. It’s not like we have to get mated to you as soon as possible to save our lives. We have been waiting for some time for you to come around, waiting a little bit more for you to fall in love with us won’t kill us. It is good that you are open-minded. That is progress and we are happy with that.”
I knew he wanted more than me being open-minded – Jack and Quinn had told me that they wanted more and I knew he would feel the same if they were indeed one.
I was grateful though for his words, knowing that he had said that to put my mind at ease.
“Thank you.”
“You are welcome, Mia.”
I smiled at him and walked back to my room, feeling relieved.
